WARNING

Individuals performing removal and disassembly should be provided with suitable protection from possibly hazardous liquids.
Note: Large size “Y” strainers are supplied with Breech-Lok screens. To remove screen, rotate screen 45°, Breech-lok will disengage.

NOTE: Before installing the “Y” strainer, be sure its pressure rating is correct for the system by checking the maximum pressure rating listed on the valve’s specification sheet against the maximum system pressure.
The strainer must be installed in the correct direction to function properly. Locate the arrow on the strainer body; it must point in the direction of flow.

Installation Instructions

For Threaded End Connections
Align to ensure that piping is straight and thread cap onto end of “Y” strainer. Make sure that the threaded end cap is not at an angle or offset when being installed.

For End Connections Designed for Soldering/Brazing
Align to ensure that piping is straight and cap is properly aligned onto end of “Y” strainer. Make sure that cap is not at an angle or offset when being soldered or brazed.

For Flanged End Connections
Align flanges of the connecting piping so they are square with the pipe.
Tighten flange bolts in sequence, crossing to opposites. Ensure that the pipe is not under any undue stress when tightening flange bolts.

Maintenance and Replacement Instructions

A differential pressure gauge is installed across the inlet and outlet to indicate pressure loss due to clogging. When the gauge reaches 5-10 psi, the screen must be cleaned in order to ensure maximum efficiency. Keeping a spare, clean screen will minimize shut down time.

For “Y” Strainers with Blow-Down Valve

  1. Open and flush the “Y” strainer until any sediment is removed

For “Y” Strainers without Blow-Down Valve

  1. Take strainer off line
  2. Remove the cover or cap and clean the screen
  3. Reinstall the screen in the strainer in the same position as before
  4. Replace cover or cap as detailed in the Installation Instructions above

NOTE: Gasket should be replaced as necessary

Ordering Replacement Parts

To order replacement screens or gaskets, which are the only items normally required, you should specify the following:

A. Size and model number of strainer or casting number as it appears on the body of the strainer
B. Specify the type of service. For example: water, steam, gas, oil, air. The working pressure and temperature of the system and the particle size to be strained out should also be specified.
