Yellow-Heart-Rose-Pattern.jpg)Fabric kit: Kit includes background fabric and
all fabrics for yellow heart rose. Yellow Heart Rose fabric kits are available
SKU:1493K Note: Colors may vary. Scotch® Magic Tape: Used for large formatted patterns only. To keep patterns affordable, we print on 11 in. H x 17 in. W, ledger paper. One page of the black and white artwork pattern must be trimmed, then it is matched up with second page. Use the Scotch® magic tape to tape the two pages together.
Sharpie® Permanent Markers: The black fine point is used to add numbers
and notes on the large artwork patterns. The black and white large artwork
pattern will need to be numbered. The first page of the black and white
artwork pattern is pre-numbered and has the numbers, areas, and fabric colors
listed with notes. Transfer the numbers, alpha charters and any notes.
Sometimes patterns occasionally need to have a few lines re-traced, so they
can be seen from the back while tracing. The red fine point is used for
centering lines. Place Scotch® tape over red marker. Steam A Seam 2® (double
sided fusible): Steam A Seam 2® is sold by the yard, roll or packages of
five Steam A Seam 2® has two release papers. The top side has yellow graph
lines, this is the side to trace on. The other side is plain white paper, do
not trace on this side. The center is a woven fusible. Wrinkled Steam A Seam
2® can be a problem when trying to trace. It can be lightly pressed with a hot
dry iron on a low setting (Acetate 290 degrees). Place the Steam A Seam 2® on
a ironing surface with the yellow graph side down. Press on the plain white
paper side.
Start from one end and press lightly gliding to the other end. Do not go back
and forth while ironing. Pick up the iron and repeat. Allow to cool before
using.
Steam A Seam 2® can also be used in an ink jet printer. Cut into 11 in. H x 8
1/2 in. W. It MUST be the exact size.
Recommended: designs by tana acrylic ruler, which is the exact size needed.
Basic Stitchless Applique Supplies and Instructions
2 Pencil or mechanical pencil 0.5mm or 0.7mm: A mechanical pencil is
recommend for tracing applique pieces onto the Steam A Seam 2®. Choose a
mechanical pencil lead size, that can be seen on he Steam A Seam2®. Tana
recommends the Pentel Energize mechanical pencil 0.7mm. During classes we use
a Bic® disposable pencil 0.7mm.
Pattern: 1493CW
LightTracer® LED Lightbox: There are many brands of quality lightboxes or light pads. Tana recommends the LightTracer or LightPad 940, both are made by ArtoGraph. Sizes vary, pick a size between 12 in. x 10 in. or 17 in. x 12 in. Both have a Cool White 6500K color temperature.Make sure the black and white artwork pattern can be seen through the Steam A Seam 2®. Some low priced lightbox will not work because they do not provide enough light to see through multiple layers. (pattern, background and applique)
Tim Holtz® 5” mini snip scissors: Designed and used by Tim Holtz! These mini
snips feature Kushgrip® handles and micro-serrated, nonstick, titanium blades
that make them the ideal craft tool. They can cut cardstock, chipboard, grunge
board, craft wire,
metals, ribbon and fabric. From handles to tip, these measure 5 inches
(12.3cm).
Black & Decker® original iron: Easy to use and has a legible temperature
setting guide. Temperature is the MAGIC in this “Stitchless Applique”
technique. The iron is affordable and will out last most of the irons on the
market today. Tana own’s six of them. The first one was purchase in 1998 and
it still works. Tana does not put ater in any iron.June Tailor portable ironing surface:
Recommended for travel . It measure 18 in. x 24 in. Perfect amount of padding
for great pressing. Tana recommends to cover it with a cotton pillow case for
basic applique steps. For the final step cover the ironing surface with a
cotton bath towel to keep ironing surface dry while finishing the applique
block.Mr.
Clean® Magic Eraser® and gently used dish towel: Always clean the iron before
beginning any project. Turn iron onto hottest setting (Linen 445 degrees).
Place a knitted dish cloth or old wash cloth on ironing surface. Wet the Mr.
Clean® Magic Eraser and ring it out. Place it on top of the dish cloth and
glide hot dry iron across it until the entire soleplate is clean. Repeat as
necessary.
The Mr.
Clean® Magic Erasers are made with “Durafoam.” Simply a foam-like material
made of formaldehyde-melamine-sodium bisulfate copolymer, a material that is
commonly called melamine foam. This is an abrasive foam. There are no chemical
cleaners in the eraser. This foam material has been used in a number of
industries for over 20 years. MSDS #: FH/H/2003/TW Date: 05-2003
Bounce Gently Used Dryer Sheets: The Bounce® mega sheet, it is an oversized
dryer sheet that measures 9 in. x 12 1/2 in. They are made out of polyester
webbing also know as non-woven cloth.
The
dryer sheet is used to place on top of applique pieces of Steam A Seam2® when
pressing them onto the wrong side of the fabric. It will keep any excess
fusible from getting onto the iron soleplate and pencil lead.
In the event an accident occurs while pressing the Steam A Seam 2® applique
pieces with the hot dry iron, immediately glide the iron over the gently used
dryer sheet to remove the fusible. Repeat until all fusible is removed.
DO NOT
use a new dryer sheet for this. Only gently used dryer sheets. MSDS #:
FH/F/2002/KHKT-5F2MTA Date: 10-2002
DISCLAIMER AND ALERGY WARNING: These gently used dryer sheets may contain
factory fragrance and chemicals, or pet hair.![TEXAS 1493CW Yellow Heart Rose
- Pattern 12](https://manuals.plus/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/TEXAS-1493CW-
Yellow-Heart-Rose-Pattern-12.jpg) Gently used dryer sheet means yes, it has
been used with Tana’s regular weekly laundry. Yes, Tana also has two German
Sheppard’s.
For the purpose of this class, Tana laundries the gently used dryer sheets in hot water (130 degrees) with Tide® Hygienic Clean Heavy Duty 10X Liquid Detergent Original Scent and Clorox®. Rinsed with Lysol® Laundry Sanitizer and then they are dried (160 degrees) to ensure they are sanitized . NOTE: It is not necessary to laundry dryer sheets for personal use.
Pigma® Micron® pen black .05 mm: The Pigma® Micron® pens are used to add lettering and special details onto the applique pieces. The artwork should be done before placing the applique piece onto the block. The Steam A Seam 2® stabilizes the fabric so it may be written on. They are available in many sizes and colors. Pigma® Micron® pens are permanent, fade resistant, chemically stable, pigment-based ink will not bleed or run if liquids are spilled on or applied to the fabrics or documents after the ink has dried.
General’s® Chalk pencil white: The General’s® Chalk pencils are used to mark the placement lines onto the fabric. Placement lines are the area another applique piece needs to be positioned. General’s® Chalk pencil are a smooth, blendable formula for use in fine arts, scrapbooks or mixed media artwork. The pencils are acidfree, pre-sharpened and made with sustained yield cedar wood to ensure strength. Chalk is not permanent and will wash out.
General’s® Chalk pencil are available in many colors. Tana uses white, gray and sepia.
TIP: To sharpen, wet tip with water and dry with a paper towel.
Using the General® all purpose sharpener, insert and rotate a few turns, remove and repeat. Bear® Thread Applique pressing sheet: The Bear® Thread Applique pressing sheet is used to build the applique units. It is placed on top of the black and white pattern. To keep it from moving use two Prym Dritz® straight pins. One in the top and one in the bottom.Tana’s applique is build in units. What is a unit? One section or item is built on the Bear® Thread Applique pressing sheet. One rose is a unit after it is built. Allow it to cool and carefully remove.
The unit can be stored on a plastic sheet protector or a plain piece of paper, however to do not press it onto the paper with a lot of pres- sure or while it is still warm because it will not be removeable. DO NOT store on paper for long periods of time.
The Bear® Thread appliqué pressing sheet is double-sided sheet. It is made from a ultra high temperature fabric and is coated with nonstickPolylon. This release all sheet is guaranteed for 5 years and is available in three sizes: 13″ x 17″, 18″ x 20″ and 27″ x 30″.
Tana recommends size: 13 in. x 17 in.. Yes, the Bear® Thread The applique pressing sheet may be cut with a hot knife, as it is a woven product and will fray if cut with scissors. Prym® Dritz® straight pins: Straight pins are used to pin the Bear® Thread Applique pressing sheet to the black and white artwork pattern. No more than two straight pins are needed. One on top and one on bottom or one on each side. Less is best.
Applique tweezers : Small applique pieces need to be handled carefully. The applique tweezers have a fine point with scored lines in the inside to help hold the grip on the applique piece., which makes easier to pick up small pieces. While holding the applique piece with the applique tweezers, small pieces, circles and threads can carefully be trimmed.
Avery® Permanent Glue Stick : Small pieces sometimes need a small tab of glue to hold them in place. Use the applique tweezers to hold small piece and glide across the glue stick. Place the applique piece onto the unit, press hard and allow to try. It will be permanent when dried. Hefty® Storage Container: The small plastic container has a clear lid used to hold small applique pieces. The black bowl is used for applique trash after trimming.
Spray bottle: Any simple spray bottle that has a fine spray will work. Add
tap water and use for pressing wrinkled fabric. After all of the applique
pieces are in place on the foundation fabric, it must be sprayed heavily with
water to activate the Steam A Seam2®.
Place the cotton towel on ironing surface. Place the foundation fabric with
the applique pieces in place on the cotton towel. Spray heavily with water.
Using the lack and Decker iron on the hottest setting (Linen 450 degrees)
carefully press each area until dry.
DO NOT apply a heavy pressure. Complete all areas until dry. Turn over and
repeat. Faultess® Spray Starch Luxe Finish Pro Grade: The finally step
in the Tana’s applique process is to starch the final block to be squared.
Shake the can well. Spray the front of the applique block. Gently massage the
starch into the block. Using the Black and Decker® iron on the hottest setting
(Linen 450 degrees) carefully press each area until dry.
Using a
pencil, make an asterisk “*” in the center of the back of the block. This will
be the reminder all steps have been completed.

Tana only uses Steam A Seam 2®, if you are using a different brandof two sided fusible, test these steps.
Understanding the Steam A Seam 2® (SAS2) product.
SAS2 is made with two types of glue. One permanently bonds the fabrics and the
other is tacky providing the repositionable benefit. The tacky glue is water
soluble and must be completely steamed dissipating it and preventing
resistance when sewing. The yellow graph side is the side you will be tracing your
applique pieces onto with a #2 pencil or .07mm mechanical pencil.
Tana’s applique fabric kits have 100% cotton fabric. Turn your iron on and
place the setting on cotton to preheat. Do not use any water in the iron or
steam.
Place fabric swatches on ironing surface, spray with a water bottle and press
with hot dry iron, to remove any wrinkles and factory siz- ing. Turn fabric
swatches over and repeat. The fabric swatches are ready for applique.
SAS2 has two release papers, the first one is the yellow graph side and the
second is a plain piece of paper. Trace applique pieces onto the yellow graph
side. Fussy cut between pieces. Remove the plain white release paper and place
the fusible side to the wrong side of the fabric. First Press onto Fabric:
Wool Setting ~ No Steam
Hand press in place. Turn the iron setting to wool. Place a gently used dryer
sheet over the piece and press with hot dry iron for four seconds. The small
fusible dots in the center of the circles will melt. No steam, no water.
Place the gently used dryer sheet over the applique pieces. This will allow
you to see your SAS2 and fabric while pressing. The iron can be moved for
pressing, without flipping pieces. Do not hold iron in one position because
there will be dots in your SAS2 fusible that are not being heated.
Carefully build the unit on the pressing sheet.
Second Pressing onto Pressing Sheet: Wool Setting ~ No Steam Using a Bear
Thread® Applique Pressing Sheet, build the applique units. Place the gently
used dryer sheet over the unit. Lightly press unit. Approximately three
seconds. Allow to cool before removing from pressing sheet. No steam, no
water.
Third Pressing onto Background Block: Wool Setting ~ No Steam Place the gently
used dryer sheet over the piece and press with hot dry iron for three seconds.
No steam, no water. Check position of the units. If everything is in place and
does not need to be repositioned, turn the iron to the Linen (445 degrees)
setting. Press block.
Forth Pressing onto Finishing Block: Linen Setting ~ No Steam
When you have reached this point, the tacky glue that is water soluble will
need to be completely dissolved, so the permanent glue can be activate and
completely melted.
Using a water bottle, spray the block heavily with water until the entire
block is wet. The block will shrink when wet. Change the iron setting to Linen
and press with hot dry iron until block is dry. Turn block over and repeat on
back.
OPTIONAL: FINISH BLOCK
Using Faultless® Spray Starch, spray and hand massage into fabric. Press with
hot dry iron on the Linen setting. Turn block over, using a Pigma® Micron® Pen
.05mm Black and place an asterisk (*) somewhere; so that you know the block
has been completed and is ready to use. Store flat until ready to use.
DISCLAIMER AND WARNING: This is a “Tired and True” technique. If you are
using the same products and following the directions, the finished project is
“Stitchless.” Tana strongly recommends for you to practice by building sample
blocks and laundry them in a lingerie bag.

Numbered Applique Pieces
Pattern: 1493B Yellow Heart Rose
See black and white artwork pattern with numbered pieces.
Centering the artwork
Place the black and white artwork pattern on the lightbox. Fold the top of the
pattern matching the artwork edge to edge of the bottom of the pattern. Finger
crease only an inch in the center.
Fold the left page of the pattern matching the artwork edge to edge of the
right side of the pattern. Finger crease only an inch in the center.
Using a Sharpie® Fine Point Red, make a dot and lines. Place scotch tape over
the red marker, so it does not bleed on your block. Color Value Chart: All patterns
have a color value chart included.
When this color value chart is printed the colors may vary.
The color value chart provides a information about the fabrics used.
The fabric alpha character, name of fabric, how much fabric, any notes about
directional, doubled or use wrong side and color photo. Fabric letter: Alpha
character’s are used to identify fabric. A, B, C, D, etc. Tana does not use
letter “I” and “O”.
Directional: There are many fabrics that are directional, such as
woodgrains and buffalo checks.
Wrong Side Fabric: There is a right side of the fabric and a wrong side (or
back of fabric). Often times a lighter shade maybe needed, so Tana uses both
sides of fabric. TIP: When shopping for fabric look at both sides.
If a kit was purchased fabrics can be easily matched up using the color value
chart.
If choosing fabrics, from a stash, chose a fabric as close as possible to the
photo.
Doubled: Doubled fabric must be two layers, so the darker color behind it will
not show through. There are notes on page 1 of the black and white artwork
pattern, indicating which piece or pieces were doubled if necessary.
TIP: This is like making a sandwich.
Basic Doubling Instructions: Our kits have an “x” fabric for the
doubling. Using the “x” fabric add a piece of Steam A Seam2® in the center of
the wrong side of fabric “x”. The Steam A Seam 2® is pressed with a hot dry
iron on wool setting. For 3 seconds. Allow to cool. Applique pieces “5Cx” and
“7Bx” need to be doubled. Cut fabric B, 1 /2 in. H x 2 in. W. Cut fabric C, 2
in. H x 2 in. W.
Fabric “x”, remove the Steam A Seam2° release paper, place the wrong side of
fabric “B” and “C” onto the fusible. It is okay if they are touching. Press
with hot dry iron on wool setting for 3 seconds.Using applique pieces “5cX” and “7bX”,
remove the release paper and place onto the “x” fabric. Make sure they are on
the color. Press with hot dry iron on wool setting for 3 seconds. applique
piece is now doubled and ready for use.
Basic Applique Instructions
-
This pattern is pre-numbered. If it were not, you would need to transfer the numbering.. Using a pencil or Sharpie® fine point marker, black, number each piece on the large pattern. Use numbered page enclosed in this pattern.

Place the gently used dryer sheet over the applique pieces, press fusible pieces with hot dry iron onto fabric three seconds.
NOTE: Wool setting on iron. High heat is not needed. DO NOT ADD ANY STEAM! -
Cut each piece out next to the traced line. If you cut on the line you will reduce the size of the applique piece.
-
Any piece that has placement lines or stitching lines, place on light box and transfer lines to the fabric. Use chalk pencil in dark areas and #2 pencil for all other placement areas.
-
For artwork details see black and white artwork pattern for instructions.
-
Some patterns have small sections of art. These small sections can be built as one unit and then applied to the foundation block.
-
Building small units, place black and white artwork pattern onto lightbox. Use two straight pins to pin the applique pressing sheet to the paper. Build the unit on the pressing sheet.
Position the applique piece onto the applique pressing sheet by number. Using applique tweezers, carefully place each applique piece onto the pressing sheet in chronological order, finger press.
