General Care and Safety Guide

Thank you for choosing this Goldair product. This Goldair appliance has been designed and manufactured to high standards of engineering and with proper use and care, as described in this leaflet, will give you years of useful service. Please read these instructions carefully and keep them for future reference.

  1. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

  2. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

  3. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

  4. Ensure that the appliance is switched off from the supply mains before removing the guard.

  5. Use only the voltage specified on the rating plate of the appliance.

  6. Keep all objects at least 1 Metre from the front, sides, and rear of the appliance

  7. This appliance is intended for household use only and not for commercial or industrial use.

  8. Use this appliance only as described in this manual. Any other use is not recommended by the manufacturer and may cause fire, electric shock or injury.

  9. The common cause of overheating is deposits of dust or fluff in the appliance.
    Ensure these deposits are removed regularly by unplugging the appliance and vacuum cleaning the air vents and grills.

  10. Always unplug appliance when not in use.

  11. When the appliance has been unpacked, check it for transport damage and ensure all parts have been delivered. If parts are missing or the appliance has been damaged, contact the Goldair Customer Services Team.

  12. If your appliance does not work, or is not working properly, contact the place of purchase. Repair work on the appliance by unqualified persons can cause serious risk to the user.

  13. Ensure hands are dry before handling the plug or the main unit.

  14. Carry out regular checks of the supply cord to ensure no damage is evident.

  15. Ensure that the cord is fully extended (not coiled) while in use.

  16. Avoid contact with the moving parts. Keep hands, hair, clothing, away from blade of the fan during operation to reduce the risk of injury to person and/or damage to the unit.

  17. Switch off and use handles provided when moving.

  18. It is recommended that this appliance is plugged directly into the wall socket.

  19. A correctly specified, undamaged extension cord may be used with this fan provided it is used in a safe manner.

  20. Never place appliance close to radiant heat source.

  21. Never operate in areas where petrol, paint or other flammable liquids are used or stored.

  22. Never use the appliance to dry clothes.

  23. Never insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening, as this may cause an electric shock, fire, or damage to the appliance.

  24. Never use abrasive cleaning products on this appliance. Clean with a damp cloth (not wet) rinsed in hot soapy water only. Always remove plug from the mains supply before cleaning.

  25. Never connect the appliance to mains supply until completely assembled and adjusted.

  26. Never remove plug from power socket until the appliance has been switched off.

  27. Never remove plug from power socket by pulling cord ­ always grip plug.

  28. Never twist, kink or wrap the cord around the appliance, as this may cause the insulation to weaken and split. Always ensure that all cord has been removed from any cord storage area and is unrolled before use.

  29. Never use this appliance in the immediate surrounds of a bath, a shower, or a swimming pool, or other liquids. The appliance must not be immersed in any liquids.

  30. Due to the risk of injury, never use this appliance for any purpose other than its intended use. This appliance is intended for use in household and similar applications such as staff kitchen areas in shops, offices and other working environments; farm houses, by clients in hotels, motels, bed and breakfast type environments and other residential type environments

  31. Never use this appliance outdoors.

  32. Never operate the appliance with a damaged cord or plug, after it malfunctions, or if it has been damaged in any manner. Have the appliance checked and repaired by a qualified electrician if repair is necessary.

  33. Never place the unit in wardrobes or other enclosed spaces as this may cause fire hazards.

Caution, risk of fire

WARNING:
Appliance shall be installed, operated and stored in a room with a floor area larger than 7m2. Do not use any means to accelerate the defrosting process or to clean ,other than those recommended by the manufacturer. The appliance shall be stored in a room without continuously operating ignition sources. (example: open flames, an operating gas appliance or an operating electric heater). Do not pierce or burn. Be aware that refrigerants do not have any odour.

Installation

WARNING: Appliance shall be installed, operated and stored in a room with a floor area larger than 7m2.
Appliance is filled with flammable gas R290.
The appliance shall be stored in a room without continuously operating ignition sources. (example: open flames, an operating gas appliance or an operating electric heater).
Do not pierce or burn.
Be aware that refrigerants do not have any odour.

Installation of the exhaust pipe
The unit is a portable air conditioner that may be moved from room to room.
Using the extendable slide, place the window spacer to the window gap and adjust the length as needed. Feed exhaust hose through the window spacer and slide window across so that spacer is held securely. This technique may also be used for sash windows.
Note: Take care to maintain protection against intruders

  • Use only the hose provided and clip exhaust hose to the back of the air conditioner
  • Avoid kinks and bends in the exhaust hose as this will cause expelled moist air to build up causing the unit to overheat and shut down. Fig 1 & 2 show correct position
  • The hose may be extended from 300mm to 1500mm but for maximum efficiency use the shortest length possible.

WARNING!
The length of the exhaust pipe is specially designed according to the specification of this product. Do not extend it as this could cause the unit to malfunction.

Installation of the carbon filter

  • Remove the plastic filter from the unit.

  • Remove the active carbon filter from its plastic bag.

  • Place the active carbon filter onto the unit.

  • Replace the plastic filter on to the unit.

Operating your Portable Air Conditioner

Always choose a safe location for the Portable Air Conditioner, keeping in mind the safety precautions outlined. Ensure all packaging has been removed from the unit before use.
WARNING: Keep all objects at least 1 metre from the front, sides and rear of the appliance.

IMPORTANT! NEVER COVER THIS APPLIANCE!
Place the appliance on a dry, level and sturdy surface.
Plug the power cord into the socket ensuring the power switch is in the off position.

ON/OFF

  • Press ON/OFF button, the unit will start in AUTO mode.
    • If the ambient temperature is higher than 22oC, the unit will work in cooling model.
    • If the ambient temperature is between 20oC and 23oC, the unit will work in fan mode.
    • If the ambient temperature is lower than 20oC, the unit will work in heating mode.
  • Indicators of the current mode will be shown on the control panel.
  • NOTE! The display window shows the ambient room temperature from 0oC to 50oC.
  • To turn the unit off, press ON/OFF button again.

MODE

  • Press MODE button to select required working mode: automatic, cooling, fan, heat or dehumidify. The indicator for your selected mode will be illuminated.

TEMPERATURE

  • Press ‘Temperature up’ or ‘Temperature down’ button to regulate the temperature you desired.
  • The display window will show the temperature you set as you press ‘Temperature up’ or ‘Temperature down’ button. Otherwise, it will always show the ambient temperature.
  • The pre-set temperature of this appliance is 24oC for cooling, 20oC for heating.

FAN SPEED

  • Press SPEED button to choose the fan speed you need, high, medium or low. The indicator of high, medium or low speed will light on at the same time.
  • If the unit is in AUTO mode, it will choose the fan speed automatically according to the ambient temperature. The related indicators will light up. You cannot adjust the fan speed in AUTO mode.

TIMER

  • OFF TIMER – Press TIMER button to set the operating hours you desire (1 to 24 hours) the timer indicator will light come on. When the set time has elapsed, the machine will turn off automatically.
  • ON TIMER ­ When the unit is in standby, press the TIMER button to set the number of ours (1 to 24 hours before the unit will automatically switch on.
  • The display window will show the number of hours you set as you press TIMER button. If the timer button is not pressed, the unit will work continuously.

SLEEP

  • In cooling mode, by pressing the SLEEP button, the set temperature will increase 1oC after 1 hour, another 1oC after 2 hours then stay at that temperature. ·
  • In heat mode, by pressing the SLEEP button, the set temperature will decrease 1oC after 1 hour, another 1oC after 2 hours then stay at that temperature.
  • In sleep mode, the fan will automatically set to low speed. Press the SLEEP button will turn sleep off and return to the last set model.
  • The unit will shut down automatically after the SLEEP function has been running for 12 hours.
  • Please note, the sleep function is not available while the machine is in AUTO, FAN or DEHUMIDIFICATION mode.

Heating function

  • By choosing the HEAT mode, the ambient warm air will be recycled and utilised to heat the area where it is required.
  • Continuous drainage must be used when the unit is in heat mode.
  • Optimum ambient temperature when using the heating function is 7 ~ 25oC.
  • For temperature outside this range, the unit may not work properly.

Dehumidify (DRY) mode

  • In dehumidify (DRY) mode, the temperature cannot be adjusted, the ventilation will be set at low speed. When the unit is operating in Dehumidify ( DRY) mode, humidity extracted from the air is collected in an internal tank. When the tank reaches full, the compressor and motor cut out automatically and the “Water Full” indicator comes on. An alarm will also sound.
  • When the tank is full, drain the water as shown in the page 13.
  • You may also use the unit without having to empty the tank so often by using “continuous drainage”, please also refer to the page 13.

Remote control
The remote requires a line-of-sight path to allow for the signal to be received by the unit. Position the unit so the receiver lens is visible from the remote control.
The symbols on the remote correspond to the symbols on the main unit. 2 x AAA size batteries are required. Ensure batteries are inserted in the correct direction.

NOTE
To prolong compressor’s life, after switching off the unit, please wait for 3 minutes (at least) before turning back on again.
The cooling system will switch off if the ambient temperature is lower than the set temperature. The ventilation will keep running and once the ambient temperature rises above the selected level, the cooling function will start again.
The heating system will switch off if the ambient temperature is higher than the set temperature. The ventilation will keep running and once the ambient temperature drops below the selected level, the heating function will start again.
This machine is equipped with ANTI-FROST function. While using the heating function during low temperature, sometimes the heating will stop for a while in order to melt the frost.

Self-diagnosis
This appliance is equipped with self-diagnosis function. If something is wrong in the machine, the display window will show E1, E3 or E5.

E1| The sensor on the evaporator has failed.
This cannot be repaired
---|---
E3| The Temperature Control sensor has failed. The unit will beep 3 times and the E3 code will flash on and off.
The compressor and fan will stop.
This cannot be repaired
E5| When the Temperature Control sensor senses the temperature is > or = 130
o C for more than 5 seconds, the E5 code will flash on every second, the machine will beep 3 times.
The compressor and fan will stop.
If this happens, press ON/OFF button on and off again to check if E5 signal still exists, if yes, that means the compressor system is abnormal. Allow the unit to cool down before trying to start again.

Troubleshooting

The air conditioner does not run| • Is the air conditioner plugged in?
• Is there a power failure?
• Is the comp / ‘full water’ indicator flashing?
• Is the room temperature below the set temperature?

The machine seems to do little| • Is there direct sunshine? (Please put down the curtain.)
• Are too many windows or doors open?
• Are there too many people in the room?
• Is there something in the room producing lots of heat?
The machine seems to do nothing.| • Is the filter dusty, contaminated?
• Is the air intake or output blocked up?
• Is the room temperature below your selected temperature?
Too noisy| • Is the machine positioned unevenly so as to create vibration ?
• Is the floor underneath the machine uneven?
The compressor doesn’t run.| • It is possible the overheat protection of the compressor is on. Just wait for the temperature to drop.

DRAINAGE
During the process of cooling, some water will be extracted from the air into the unit. If the reservoir is full, both the compressor and motor will stop and the unit will buzz (you can press any button to stop the buzz). The Water Full indicator will flash. To make the cooling work again, please empty the water by one of the following ways.

  • Turn off the air conditioner and avoid moving it when full.
  • Position a container (a water tray for example) underneath the drain hole.
  • Remove the drain knob & rubber plug from the drain hole and allow the water to drain out.
  • When the container is almost full, replace the rubber plug in the drain hole and empty the water tray.
  • Repeat until the unit is emptied.
  • Replace the rubber plug and tighten the drain knob firmly.
  • Switch on the unit – the full water indicator should now be off.

CONTINUOUS DRAINAGE

  • Remove the drain knob and rubber plug and retain for future use.
  • Connect the drain tube supplied to the water outlet as shown and locate the other end into a drain.
  • The drain tube may be extended by adding an extension tube and using a suitable connector.( Not supplied)
  • If you want to extend the water tube, you can connect it with another tube (OD: 18mm)
  • The drain must be below the outlet level.

Cleaning

The exterior may be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth. If the device is extremely dirty wipe the device with a slightly damp (not wet) cloth. Never spray the device with water. DO NOT immerse the unit in water and never allow water to enter the motor housing. DO NOT use harsh chemicals to clean the unit.
Do not attempt to dismantle the Air Conditioner. There are no user-serviceable parts. For service or repair, contact an authorised electrical service technician.

STORAGE
To store the unit, remove the plug from the socket. Remove the rubber plug from the drainage hole at the bottom of unit, and connect a drain hose to the lower fixing clip. All the water in the water tank will drain out. Allow the Container and the Air Conditioner to dry completely. Clean the air filter. Refit the rubber plug. Store the device in a dust-free location, preferably covered with a sheet of plastic.

Three Year Warranty

Thank you for purchasing this Goldair product. Your product is warranted against faults and manufacture when used in normal domestic use for a period of three years. In non-domestic use Goldair limits the voluntary warranty to three months.
Goldair undertake to repair or replace this product at no charge if found to be defective due to a manufacturing fault during the warranty period.
This warranty excludes damage caused by misuse, neglect, shipping accident, incorrect installation, or work carried out by anyone other than a qualified electrical service technician.
