CONNECTIONS

SCHIIT-Magni-Modular-Headphone-Amp-and-Preamp-fig-1

  1. USB Input. If you have the optional DAC card, connect your source via USB-C here. Unison USB™ works with Windows 10/11, MacOS, iOS, Android, and Linux distros that support UAC2.
  2. Analog RCA Input. Connect an analog source to the Magni’s “IN” RCA jacks with high-quality RCA cables.
  3. Preamp Outputs. If you have a speaker power amp or powered monitors, connect them here. This allows you to use the Magni as a preamp and volume control.
  4. Power switch. Up for on. Down for off. Simple as that. The protection relay mutes the output for about 10 seconds, then engages with a click.
  5. AC Input. Connect the supplied wall-wart cable to the jack labeled “AC IN.” Do not use any other wall-wart, or Magni will not work.*
Magni’s wall-wart is AC output. Most AC adapters are DC output, and will not work with Magni. Magni works with a 14-16VAC, 1-2A output adapter only.

USING MAGNI

SCHIIT-Magni-Modular-Headphone-Amp-and-Preamp-fig-2

  1. Headphone Jack. Connect your headphones here. For smaller plugs, you may need a 1/8” to 1/4” adapter (not supplied).
  2. Volume Control. Turn the knob to adjust both the headphone and preamp outputs.
  3. Gain Switch. Magni has three gain settings, +15dB (high), 0dB (low) and 10dB (negative). Low gain and negative gain give you more volume range for sensitive headphones.
  4. Input Switch. Up for DAC, down for RCA. If you don’t have a DAC card, you won’t get output with the switch up.

Remember, when you plug headphones into Magni, it
mutes the preamp output.

OVERCURRENT PROTECTION

  • If your Magni clicks and mutes over and over, it is protecting itself. This is usually caused by a TRRS headphone plug, shorted headphone cable, or other problems.
  • Check your system, try different headphones and adapters, and learn more about TRRS problems at schiit.com/trrs
  • In extreme cases, at very high volume, you may run into overload, especially with equalization. This is ridiculously loud and dangerous to your hearing.

IN THE BOX

  • (1) Magni
  • (1) Wall-Wart 16VAC, 1A

(And maybe some stickers, and the appreciation of the production, QC, and engineering staff at Schiit Audio in Texas and California.)
