OWNER’S MANUAL
INTRODUCTION
Lyr+ is the most advanced desktop-sized product we’ve ever produced. Combining all-new Fusion Architecture™ that lets you use tube or solid-state gain, relay ladder volume control, advanced microprocessor protection, and remote control, it’s a technological tour de force. Now, you can roll all the tubes you want…and still have a great solid-state amp whenever you want. We hope you enjoy your time with Lyr+— we certainly had plenty of fun developing it!
WHAT’S IN THE BOX
(1) Lyr+
(1) Lyr+ Tube Cover
(1) Power cord
(1) 6SN7 type tube (if you ordered it with Lyr+)
**** The following is required by the roughly 9,542 government agencies and regulations we have to comply with. If you have some common sense, they should seem pretty straightforward. In any case, read these instructions before proceeding further, follow all instructions, and heed all warnings. Or else!
- If you don’t know how to install audio devices, get a qualified professional to help.
- Never use this device near water, and clean only with a dry cloth.
- Assure adequate ventilation, do not block any ventilation openings or place them near heat sources.
- Use only the supplied power cord or a suitable replacement. Route cords away from traffic areas and protect them from being pinched. Unplug the cord from the outlet if the apparatus is unused for a long period of time.
- To prevent electric shock, do not use the plug with an extension cord, receptacle, or outlet unless the blades can be fully inserted.
- Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Service is required when the device has been damaged, including cord or plug damage, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the device, the device has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT EXPOSE THIS DEVICE TO RAIN OR MOISTURE.
GETTING STARTED
No Tube? It’s easy. Just plug in Lyr+ and turn it on. It’ll stay muted while
everything stabilizes, then enable everything for you to enjoy.
If you aren’t going to use a tube for a while, you can cover the hole with the
supplied Tube Cover.
Yes Tube? It’s still easy. Just follow these steps:
-
Before plugging in, insert the tube. Carefully align the key in the tube base to the notch in the tube socket.
-
Ensure the tube is well-seated. Push down firmly until the tube is seated on the tube socket.
-
Plug in and turn it on. The tube will glow after a few seconds, then Lyr+ will stay muted for self-checks, then enable output.
-
Connect your system. Plug in up to two sources, plug in your headphones, and, if you like, use the preamp outputs for a speaker amp or sub. And enjoy!
Replacing or Swapping Tubes
- Turn off and unplug. Wait for the tube to cool.
- Carefully extract the tube by gently rocking it back and forth and pulling it upwards.
- Carefully insert the replacement tube. Align the key to the notch and press down firmly until the tube is seated.
- Plug the Lyr+ back in and turn it on.
CONTROLS
- Input Select. Press this button to toggle between the two inputs. To the right of the button, the selected input lights up to indicate, well, the selected input.
- Preamp Output Enable. Push the button to enable and disable the preamp output. The light to the right of the button is on when the preamp outputs are enabled.
- Volume Control. Turn up till the music sounds good, but before your ears turn to taffy.
- MOSFET Indicator. When this light is on, Lyr+ is using its internal solid-state gain stage. When it’s off, then it’s running tube gain. Remember, you can’t run tube gain without a tube! 012345678 115VAC 30W
- Gain Select. Push this button to toggle between low and high gain modes. The light to the right of this button will glow when Lyr+ is in high gain mode. Be careful of selecting high gain without ASSY IN USA turning down the volume first—high gain is high!
- Headphone Jack. Plug your headphones in here, using a standard 1/4” TRS plug.
REMOTE CONTROL
Yes, Lyr+ comes with remote control. And yes, we know it may seem kinda silly if you’re using Lyr+ on your desk, but when you’re using it as the focal point of an entire system, well, maybe it’s not so crazy, right?
- Input. Press this button to select the input you want to listen to. If you skip the input, keep pressing—it cycles back around.
- Tube/MOSFET Mode. When you have a tube installed, you can switch back and forth between tube and MOSFET gain modes by pressing this button. If you don’t have a tube installed, this button won’t do anything.
- Gain. Toggle between low and high gain with this button. We recommend turning down the volume before switching to high gain, as it is significantly higher than low gain.
- Mute. Press to mute Lyr+—headphone, preamp outs, everything goes off.
- Preamp Output Enable/Disable. Press to enable or disable the preamp outputs.
- Volume Up/Down. Press the up arrow to turn the volume up, and press the down arrow to turn it down. Simple!
CONNECTIONS
-
RCA Inputs.
Connect up to 2 inputs to Lyr+ using RCA cables. The inputs are conveniently numbered “1” and “2” to match the front panel indicators. Select the input you want to listen to using the front panel button or the remote control. -
Preamp Output.
Optionally, connect this output to a separate power amp (or subwoofer) using RCA cables. You can switch on and off the preamp output using the front panel button or the remote control. -
On-Off Switch. Up is on. Down is off. Pretty simple, right?
-
AC Input. Plug the power cord in here. Plug the other end into an outlet of the correct voltage. Trying to run a 115V product on 230V will blow the fuse and generally make for a bad, bad day.
FAQ
There’s no sound for quite a long time after I turn Lyr+ on.****
– That’s perfectly normal. Lyr+ monitors operational parameters as it is turning on, and only connects the output when everything is fine. This can take 30-45 seconds.
There’s no output for a while after I switch gain.****
– Correct. And completely normal. Lyr’s microprocessor protection system mutes the output while it changes gain, and monitors operational points until all is settled.
What’s with the clicking noises when I turn the volume?****
– That’s the sound of the mechanical relays in the relay-switched stepped attenuator. Also normal.
What kind of tubes can I use in Lyr+?****
– Use only 6SN7-type tubes, including 6N8S, 5692, and (of course) 6SN7.
Can I leave Lyr+ on all the time?****
– You can, but it would be best to do it when in solid state mode (no tube inserted). The tube heater is on all the time, in all modes, and leaving it powered on all the time will significantly shorten the tube lifespan.
The Lyr+ clicks and I don’t hear any music, then it clicks back on, then click and no music, over and over again.****
– Aha! We bet you’re using a TRRS jack (typically found on headphones with
microphones) that has been “converted” to 1/4” using an adapter.
– This can short the outputs, forcing Lyr+ to protect itself. If you want to
use a TRRS headphone, we sell a proper conversion kit here:

It doesn’t turn on, what do I do?****
– Plug it in to a different AC socket. Ensure you are not currently in a blackout. Then email us if it still doesn’t work.
