NOTICE
- The hinges can be used to install metal doors using machine screws or wooden doors using self-tapping screws.
- 2 hinges are required for hollow-core doors. 3 hinges are required for solid-core doors. 4 hinges are required if the door is 84″ (2.13 m) or more in height.
- For doors with 3 hinges, it is recommended to install the self-closing hinge in the middle and/ or top hinge area. For doors with 2 hinges, it is recommended to install the self-closing hinge in the top hinge area.
- For doors weighing 85 lbs (187 kg) or less, use 2 self-closing hinges. For doors weighing over 85 Ibs (187 kg), use 3 self-closing hinges.
- For the installation of other hinge types, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Wooden door
-
Position the self-closing hinge on the door using an existing door as a template for the hinge location.
Make sure the hex hole used for tension adjustment is in the upward position. Using a utility knife, mark around the outside of the self-closing hinge on the door (Fig. 1). The barrel of the self-closing hinge should extend at least 1/8″ (3 mm) outside the surface of the door from its inside edge. -
Chisel in the door to 1/10″ (2.4 mm) depth to allow the self-closing hinge to lie flush with adjacent surfaces. Cut the area into small sections first (Fig. 2).
-
Chisel across the grain to remove the chips (Fig. 3).
-
Place the self-closing hinge in the mortise, mark the location of the holes and then drill pilot holes using a 1/8″‘ (3 mm) drill bit (Fig. 4).
-
Using a utility knife, mark around the outside of the self-closing hinge on the door jamb (Fig. 5). The barrel of the self-closing hinge should extend at least 1/8″ (3 mm) outside the surface of the door jamb from its inside edge.
-

-
Attach the self-closing hinge to the door with the self-tapping screws (Fig. 9).
-
With another person holding the door up, attach the self-closing hinge to the door jamb with the self- tapping screws (Fig. 10).
-
Once the hinges are installed, test the door’s operation by opening and closing it several times.
Check for any sticking or misalignment issues and make necessary adjustments to ensure smooth and safe operation. -
To adjust the tension on the self-closing hinge(s), see chapter Tension Adjustment.

Tension Adjustment
NOTICE
- Do not adjust the tension beyond 3 holes for a 180° door opening or beyond 4 holes for a 90° opening.
- Always adjust the tension bar clockwise regardless of whether it is being applied to a right or left-hand door.
- Unscrew and remove an existing hinge.
- Insert the hex key into the hex hole with the end pointing to the right (Fig. A).
- Turn the hex key clockwise to expose the adjustment holes (Fig. A).
- Place the tension adjustment rod (TAR) into the rightmost adjustment hole (Fig. B).
- Remove the hex key and test the door’s force and closing speed. If the door does not close properly:
- Reinsert the hex key into the hex hole.
- Rotate the adjustment holes clockwise/ counterclockwise one hole each time to increase/ decrease the tension as necessary.
- Make sure to place the TAR into the rightmost adjustment hole when making adjustments and testing the door.
- Once the desired tension is reached, reinsert the hex key into the hex hole. Turn the hex key slightly counterclockwise and hold the adjustment holes steady.
- Remove the TAR and replace it with a tension stopper pin (TSP) (Fig. C). Make sure the TSP is flush with the adjustment hole’s surface.
Cleaning
- Wipe dry with a soft, clean cloth and let dry completely.
- Never use corrosive detergents, wire brushes, abrasive scourers, metal or sharp utensils to clean the product.

- Be gentle when opening/closing the door. Excessive force (e.g. slamming the door shut constantly) can put strain on the hinge and lead to damage over time.
- If the door sags or does not close properly, readjust the hinge tension.
- Ensure that there are no obstructions or objects that could interfere with the movement of the hinge. This includes removing any buildup of paint, dirt, or debris.
- Periodically inspect the hinges for any signs of wear or damage.
- Lubricate the hinges if needed to maintain proper functionality.
- Replace any worn-out hinges promptly to prevent accidents.
