Contents of the sales package
- Smart Kitchen Waste Scale
- Power supply for the Waste Scale
- Android tablet
- Power supply for the Android tablet
- Tablet accessories: SIM-card and a stand
Cautions
- Smart Kitchen Waste Scale operates with mains current (AC 100-240V).
- Do not use other power supplies than those provided in the sales package.
- Pay attention to the maximum capacity of the Waste Scale. The load on the scale must not exceed the maximum load (35 or 150 kg depending on the scale model) under any circumstances.
- Do not immerse the scale in water or other liquids.
- The scale is splash proof. Use a damp cloth and detergent for cleaning.
Deploying the Smart Kitchen Waste Scale
- Place the scale on a flat surface. The flatness and slope must not differ more than 1.5 cm per 100 cm.
- The scale must be placed in location where it will not be exposed to large temperature changes.
- The scale operates on mains power. Make sure that both the scale and the tablet are powered at the planned location.
- The scale must be activated in the Smart Kitchen service.
- The waste categories and items and, , if necessary, the weights of the various containers must be created in the Smart Kitchen service before using the scale.
Preconditions
The use of Waste Scale requires purchasing the Food Waste Tracker or HACCP for commercial kitchen service license.
- Activate the Waste Scale to your Smart Kitchen account. From the “Food waste” menu, select “Scales and manual measuring locations” and Add Smart Kitchen scale.
- Create the waste categories and items in Smart Kitchen service. See the more detailed instructions in Food Waste Tracker general guide (smart kitchen. solutions/support)
Device installation
- Place the scale on a flat surface. Make sure it does not touch the wall or other structures on the sides. It is recommended that the scale is positioned so that the power cord and power indicator LED are on the side of the device.
- Place the suitable waste container on top of the scale. (If the scale is used so that the weight of the container is selected at the time of entry, this need not be done.)
- Plug in the power supply of the Android tablet and switch it on.
- Connect the tablet to the Internet via either Wi-Fi or a SIM card data connection. Note that in some locations, IT support requires the tablet’s MAC address to allow its Wi-Fi network traffic. The MAC address of the tablet can be found in the supplied documents.
- The accessory stand allows the tablet to be mounted on a tabletop or wall.
- Turn on the scale by plugging in the power supply. The green LED on the side of the scale lights up when the device is ready for operation.
- Open the “Waste Scale” app from the tablet desktop and sign in with your Smart Kitchen credentials.
- Select the correct scale from the settings in the application menu.
- f the scale does not show 0.000 kg, tare it from the application menu. If the scale does not show 0.000 kg, tare it by pressing and holding the weight reading window on the display. The increasing bar in the window reflects the progress of the tare. When tare is complete, the scale will show 0.000 kg.
Using instructions
The Waste Scale is intended to be used as follows:
- The scale and tablet must be always connected to the mains.
- If the app has shut down, select the “Waste Scale” application from the tablet desktop to restart it.
- If the Scale and tablet are turned off and the power supply is disconnected, the scale must be restarted by plugging the power supply back into the electrical outlet.
- Restart the tablet with its power button. The scale does not have a separate power switch.
Making a waste recording with the Waste Scale
- Place the waste item to be weighed in a container on the scale.
- The weight of the waste item and waste categories created previously in the service will appear on the tablet screen.
- Select a correct waste category.
- Select a correct waste item.
- The measurement result is stored in the Smart Kitchen cloud service. The ✓ symbol appears on the screen when the measurement has been saved successfully.
- When the symbol disappears from the display, the scale is ready for the next waste measurement.
- Tare the scale if necessary. Note that automatic tare will occur within five minutes if no selections are made.
- A warning appears on the display when the maximum load of the scale is being reached. Empty the waste container.
Record the waste and automatically reduce the weight of the container
The waste scale is typically used with a waste container on top of the scale
into which the waste is poured. Another way is to place the container with the
waste directly on the scale. For example, when weighing food leftover from a
serving in its own container. The weight of the container is automatically
reduced from the weight saved. The containers used for weighing are defined in
advance in the Smart Kitchen service. The container to be used is selected in
the application before the waste is recorded. During recording, the name of
the selected container and its weight will also be displayed next to the
weight. In other respects, the waste is recorded as described previously.
Calibrating the Smart Kitchen Waste Scale
The Waste Scale is calibrated if its measurement results are suspected to
deviate significantly from the correct value. Calibration is a procedure that
should only be performed for a valid reason, not just for certainty. Deviation
of the scale measurement results may occur if the measurement is made at a
significantly higher or lower temperature than the room temperature. The
deviation may also occur over a longer period during normal use. The using
frequency of the scale is also notable. If the scale is used continuously, its
deviation may increase faster than the scale used occasionally. Dropping the
scale or dropping the load on the scale may also cause the need for
calibration. Likewise, exposing the device to vibration. First, confirm the
need for calibration by weighing a suitable object with another, accurate and
calibrated scale. Check the deviation of the Waste Scale by weighing this
object before starting the calibration. The scale must be switched on for at
least half an hour before starting the calibration.
The Waste Scale application guides the user through the calibration process:
- Log in to the Waste Scale app. Make sure the tablet you are using has internet connection and Bluetooth is turned on. Make sure the scale has been on for at least 30 minutes.
- Select “Start Calibration” from the application menu and follow the on-screen instructions:
- Attention! You are about to start calibration Waste Scale should only be calibrated if its measurement results are suspected to deviate significantly from the correct values. • Clear scale Ma
- Set the calibration weight Set the known weight on the scale. The weight should be at least 10% of the maximum weight of the scale. In other words, the weight used on a 35 kg scale must be at least 3.5 kg and on a 150 kg scale at least 15 kg.
- Define weight Enter the exact weight of the calibration object.
- Calibration complete Verify the calibration by weighting the same amount that was used to calibrate the scale.
Solutions to the most common problems
- The scale shows incorrect measurement result for a known weight. Solution: Remove the weight and tare the scale from the application menu.
- The scale still shows incorrect measurement result. Solution: Check that there is no debris, stones, etc. under the device that interfere with the measurement. Check that all three feet of the scale touch the floor. Check that the scale is removed from the wall and other structures. Check that there have been no significant changes in the ambient temperature of the scale.
- Nothing appears on the tablet screen and it does not start. Solution: Check that the tablet is plugged in to the power supply and restart if necessary.
- The scale’s power indicator LED is not on. Solution: Check that the scale is connected to the power supply and reconnect if necessary.
- Tablet is not showing the waste weight. Solution: Make sure your tablet’s Bluetooth is turned on.
- The waste weighing results are not transferred into the Smart Kitchen service. Solution: Check the tablet’s internet connection.
- The changes made in the service (waste categories, waste items) are not visible in the application. Solution: Close and restart the Waste Scale application.
Attention! Changes made in the service (categories, titles, etc.) will apply with a delay. To get the changes immediately in use, restart the application.
