Getting started

About Galaxy SmartTag2

The Galaxy SmartTag2 is a product that can be attached to pets or objects in order to prevent their loss and to stay updated on their location. You can also launch automation features through the product using its button.
Connect a product to your mobile device through the SmartThings app to check the location of the product and get information about where the product was lost.

  • Press to turn off the product alerts notification sound when it rings.
  • Press twice to find the mobile device connected to the product.
  • Press or press and hold to launch the automation feature you set.
Replacing a battery
  1. Insert the ejection pin supplied with the product or a clip into the battery tray hole, and pull out the battery tray gently from the battery tray slot.

  2. Insert the battery with the positive terminal properly aligned with the + symbol inside the product.

  3. Insert the battery tray back into the battery tray slot.

  • Be careful not to hurt your finger or fingernail when pulling out the battery tray from the battery tray slot to replace the battery.
  • Be careful not to insert the battery tray upside down as it may damage the product.
  • Check the direction of the battery’s positive (+) terminal. If the battery is incorrectly inserted, the product will not work.
  • When the battery is discharged, replace the battery.
  • Do not recharge the provided battery
Before using the product

Installing the SmartThings app on your mobile device

Before using a product, you should install the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
Depending on your mobile device, you can download the SmartThings app from the following places:

  • Samsung Android mobile devices: Galaxy Store, Play Store
  • You cannot install the SmartThings app on mobile devices that do not support products syncing. Ensure that your mobile device is compatible with the products.
  • You must register and sign in to your Samsung account to use the SmartThings app.

Connecting products to a mobile device

  • Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
    Update the SmartThings app to the latest version.

  • Remove the film between the battery tray and the battery, or insert the battery.
    Alternatively, press the product’s button.
    The product will make a sound and be activated.

  • When the pop-up window informing that your product is detected appears on your mobile device, tap Add.
    If the connection pop-up window does not appear, tap Devices+ . Tap Add under Samsung devices and tap Tag/Tracker.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connection.
    When the connection is complete, the tag’s current location will be displayed on the SmartThings Find map and the product will appear on the list of devices in the SmartThings app.

Connecting products by scanning the QR code

You can also connect a product to your mobile device by scanning its QR code.

  • Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  • Tap Devices+Scan QR code to scan the QR code on the box.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connection.

When the connection is complete, the tag’s current location will be displayed on the SmartThings Find map and the product will appear on the list of devices in the SmartThings app.

  • If you are registering a product for the first time, the registration process may not be smooth depending on the surrounding environment. You may have to try 2-3 times before successfully completing registration.
  • Supported features may differ depending on the mobile device and software version.
  • You can use SmartThings Find only on Samsung mobile devices that run Android 9.0 or later, as well as Samsung mobile devices that support the Find My Mobile feature.
  • The product is a wireless communication device, and performance may be degraded when multiple devices are connected simultaneously.

Using the product

Checking a product’s location

You can remotely check your product’s location from the SmartThings app on your mobile device and find its location by triggering a notification sound on the product.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Devices, tap your product card, and then tap View map. Alternatively, tap Life → Find.
    The current location of the product will be displayed on the map.
  • The location of the product is based on GPS and Wi-Fi positioning results of the mobile device connected to the product or the nearby Android mobile device, which may have some problems because of things like the surrounding environment or GPS failure.
  • If the current location of the product does not appear, the product’s battery has been discharged or there is no Samsung Android mobile devices nearby to help locate the product. To receive notifications when your product’s location information is updated, turn on the related feature. Refer to Notify me when it’s found for more information.
  • When the product’s status is Connected, you can trigger a notification sound or adjust the volume of the product.
  • The product’s usage time may vary depending on the user’s environment and the usage pattern.
  • The Ultra-Wideband (UWB) feature may not be available depending on the region.

Using the product

Searching for the product location with a notification sound

You can find the product’s location by triggering a notification sound.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Life → Find.
  3. Tap Ring.

The product alerts notification will sound.
To adjust the notification sound’s volume, tap or .
To turn off the notification sound, tap Stop or press the product’s button once.

Searching for the product location by history

You can find a product by viewing the location of the product recorded for last 7 days.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Life → Find → Location history.

To delete the product’s entire location history, tap  → Delete history

Searching for the product location by signal strength
You can find the product’s location by detecting its signal strength.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Life → Find → More → Search nearby.

The signal screen of the product you are trying to find will appear. The closer you are to the location of the product you are trying to find, the stronger the signal strength indicated on the screen will be.

You can trigger the product’s notification sound by tapping .

To turn off the notification sound, tap . You can also turn off notifications by pressing the product’s button once.

Searching for the product location with the AR effect

You can find the product’s location by using AR related features.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Life → Find → More → Search nearby → .
  3. Scan the nearby area.

If your product is nearby, the AR effect will appear in the location of the product you are looking for.

You can trigger the product’s notification sound by tapping .

This feature is only available when your mobile device supports the UWB feature.

Searching for the shared product locations

You can invite multiple users to your place where the product is registered to share the product’s location and control it together. If you cannot use your mobile device, try to locate and control the product on another user’s mobile device.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Life → Find → More → Share this device’s location.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to invite other users to your location.
  4. When the user invitation is complete, follow the on-screen instructions to share the product’s location.
Getting product location guidance

Getting route guidance

If your product is lost or far away from you, you may be directed to the location where the product is located.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Life → Find → More → Navigate.

Directions to the place where the product is located will begin.

If a supported navigation app is not installed on your mobile device, the list of supported navigation apps will appear. Install the app you want from the list and get directions.

Notify me when it’s found

You can receive a notification on your mobile device when the product’s location information is updated, even if the product’s battery is completely discharged or there is no Samsung Android mobile device nearby to help you locate the product.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Life → Find → More → Notify me when it’s found to turn on the feature.
    This feature is available when the product and mobile device are not connected.

Getting notified when the product is left behind

You can receive a notification on your mobile device when the product is left behind.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Life → Find → More → Notify when left behind and tap the switch to turn it on.

You can set a safe location to avoid notifications, such as your home, so whenever you leave you will not get a notification. Try adding a specific place by tapping Add safe place.

Protecting my product and what it’s attached to

If you lost the product, you can protect your product by having it send you a notification.
You can also protect your product and what it’s attached to by displaying emergency contact information on the other’s mobile device when they have found your product and what it’s attached to and try to recognise it with their mobile devices, and locking the product so that others cannot connect to it.

For example, if the pet that the product is attached to becomes lost, the guardian’s contact information can be checked by placing a mobile device on the product to recognise it.

  • To use this feature, the mobile device to recognise the product must support the NFC feature and set to Standard mode.
  • When trying to recognise the product with the mobile device, ensure that the mobile device’s screen is turned on and unlocked. Otherwise, the mobile device will not receive data.
  • To recognise the product with your mobile device, place your mobile device’s NFC antenna area over the product’s button.
  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Life → Find → More → Lost mode.
  3. Read the on-screen instructions and tap Next.
  4. Enter the information and tap Turn on.
Finding a mobile device

If you do not find your mobile device connected to the product nearby, the product can help you find it.

Press the product’s button twice.

The mobile device connected to the product will sound its ringtone.

To turn off the ringtone on your mobile device, follow the on-screen instructions or press the product’s button twice.

  • This feature is not available when the product and mobile device are not connected.
  • This feature is available when the Find phone or tablet feature is turned on.
Using the automation feature

When the product is connected to a mobile device, you can launch the automation feature by pressing or pressing and holding the product button.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Devices, tap your product card, and then tap Automation.
  3. Select an option under Actions and tap Add what this routine will do. to follow the on-screen instructions to add an action.

When you press or press and hold the product button, the automation action you set will start.

Managing automation features

Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device. Tap Devices, tap your product card, and then tap Automation. The automation action you added appears.
To edit or delete an action, tap the action you want to edit or delete, and tap Edit or Delete.

Preventing location tracking

You can prevent people from tracking your location by setting it to receive a notification on your mobile device if an unknown smart tag is moving with you when you are moving.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Life → Find → → Settings → Unknown tag detection.
  3. Tap Unknown tag alerts to turn on the feature.

To find unknown smart tags around you, tap Search for unknown tags near you → Start.

This feature can only detect smart tags that are compatible with SmartThings Find.

Setting up the product

Adding to Home screen

If you use the product frequently, you can run it by adding a shortcut to the Home screen of your mobile device.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Life → Find → → Add to Home screen.
  3. Touch and hold the icon on the screen or tap Add.
    The shortcut will be added to your mobile device’s home screen.
Setting devices to display on the map

You can choose which devices to display on the SmartThings Find map.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.

  2. Tap Life → Find → .
    Your product and a list of all the devices added to Find My Mobile through your Samsung account will appear.

  3. Tap Set favourite.

  4. Select a device to display on the SmartThings Find map and tap Save.

General settings

You can check the information related to the product and change various settings.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Devices and tap your product card.

Status

You can check the connection status between the product and the mobile device and the location status of the product.
Tap View map to check the detailed location information of the product.

Find phone or tablet

If you do not find your mobile device nearby, you can use the product to find it.
Tap the Find phone or tablet switch to turn it on. Refer to Finding a mobile device for more information.

Automation

When the product is connected to a mobile device, you can launch the automation feature by pressing or pressing and holding the product button. Refer to Using the automation feature for more information.

Volume

Adjusts the volume of the product.
Tap Volume to select an option you want. You can also tap to make the product alert a notification sound.

Ringtone

Change the notification sound that the product emits when you are trying to find the product’s location.
Tap Ringtone to select the notification sound you want.

Power saving mode

You can extend the battery life by activating the power saving feature.
Tap the Power saving mode switch to turn it on. However, some features, such as the product’s button or features related to sounds, may not available.

Battery

You can check the remaining battery power of the product. You can also check the battery information by tapping Battery.

Editing

Tap ⋮ → Edit.

Changing the product’s icon

You can change the icon that appears on the product card or on the SmartThings Find map.

Tap to select the icon you want and tap Save.

Location

You can check where the product is located.

Room

You can check and change the room where the product is located.
Tap Room to select the room you want and tap Save.
Tap Add new room to add a new room. You can also manually name the room where the product is located by tapping Custom.

Editing a product’s name
You can change the product’s name.
Tap the product’s name, change it, and then tap Save.

Configuring SmartThings Find

You can change various settings related to SmartThings Find.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Life → Find → → Settings.

Allow devices to be found
You can select the device you want to find and change its settings using SmartThings Find.

Offline finding devices

You can update the product’s location information using a peripheral device that has a fixed place, such as a TV or SmartThings station.
For example, if your product is near your TV, your TV can update the product’s location in SmartThings Find even if your mobile device is not nearby.
Select a supported device from the list and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

Encrypt offline location

When you send offline location information of your product to Find My Mobile through another device, you can encrypt the location of your product for increased security.
Tap the switch of the device on the list you want to encrypt your location information for, and then follow the on-screen instructions to encrypt your location information.

Unknown tag detection

You can prevent people from tracking your location by setting it to receive a notification on your mobile device if an unknown smart tag is moving with you when you are moving. Refer to Preventing location tracking.

Navigation app

You can set and download the default navigation app to use when you are guided to the place where the product is located.

Allow use of location information

You can enable use of your location information.

Help

Check out help information to learn how to use the product and to check its related information.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Devices and tap your product card.
  3. Tap ⋮ → Help.
Product information

You can check the product’s software information.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Devices and tap your product card.
  3. Tap → ⋮ Information.
Deleting a product

You can register a product with another Samsung account after deleting it.

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Devices → ⋮ → Remove device.
  3. Tap on the product card you want to delete.
    The product will be reset.

Usage notices

Precautions for using the device

Please read this manual when using the product to ensure safe and proper use.

  • Descriptions are based on the product’s default settings.
  • Some content may differ from your product depending on the region, service provider, model specifications, or product’s software.
  • Software, sound sources, wallpapers, images, and other media provided with this product are licensed for limited use. Extracting and using these materials for commercial or other purposes is an infringement of copyright laws. Users are entirely responsible for illegal use of media.
  • Default apps that come with the product are subject to updates and may no longer be supported without prior notice.
  • Modifying the product’s operating system or installing software from unofficial sources may result in product malfunctions and data damage or loss. These actions are violations of your Samsung licence agreement and will void your warranty.
  • Do not use your product in a hot environment of near a fire.
  • Do not swallow or disassemble any battery, chemical burn hazard.
  • This product contains a button cell battery. Do not swallow the battery. Swallowing the battery can result in severe internal burns within just 2 hours and death in severe cases.
  • Keep batteries away from infants and children. If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the product and keep it away from infants and children. If you think the batteries might have been swallowed or inserted inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.
  • This product includes certain free/open source software. The licence information of the open source software used in this product can be found at opensource.samsung.com.
  • The use of ultra-wideband (UWB) transmitters is prohibited when aboard an aeroplane or ship

Maintaining water resistance

Your product supports water-resistance (tested under IP67 conditions: 15-35 °C, 86-106 kPa, fresh water, 1 metre (or 3 feet), 30 minutes). Follow these tips carefully to maintain the water-resistant performance of the product.

  • Do not expose the product to swimming pool water or sea water.
  • Do not expose the product to water moving with force. A sudden rise in the water pressure may exceed the guaranteed level of water resistance.
  • If the product is exposed to water, wipe it with a soft and clean cloth, and then dry it thoroughly.
  • If the product is exposed to other liquids, such as soapy water, oil, perfume, sunscreen, hand cleaner, or chemical products such as cosmetics, clean the product with fresh water that does not flow, wipe it with a soft and clean cloth, and then dry it thoroughly before use to maintain the water resistance.
  • If the product has been immersed in water or speaker is wet, sound may not be heard clearly

Appendix

Troubleshooting

Before contacting a Samsung Service Centre or an authorised service centre, please attempt the following solutions. Some situations may not apply to your product.

Product does not turn on

  • When the battery is completely discharged, your product will not turn on. Check the battery before using the product.
  • The battery may not be inserted properly. Insert the battery again.
  • After wiping the terminals, try reinserting the battery.

Product freezes or encounters a problem

Try the following solutions. If the problem is still not resolved, contact a Samsung Service Centre or an authorised service centre.

Restarting the product
If the product keeps freezing or slowing down, remove the battery and reinsert it.

Forcing restart

If the product is frozen and unresponsive, you can reset the product.

Insert the ejection pin supplied with the product or a clip into the battery tray hole, and pull out the battery tray gently from the battery tray slot. After pressing and releasing the button once, insert the battery tray into the battery tray slot while pressing the button again. Hold the button for more than 7 seconds until the product makes a sound.

If the battery has not been properly recognised, the product will make a sound immediately after inserting the battery. If this happens, try the method again.

Another Bluetooth device cannot locate your product

  • Ensure that the device you wish to connect with is ready to be scanned or connected to.
  • The location of the product is based on the GPS and Wi-Fi positioning results of the device connected to the product, and some problems may occur because of the surrounding environment or GPS failure. Make sure that the device you want to connect to your product is nearby.
  • Reset your product and try again.

If these tips do not solve the problem, contact a Samsung Service Centre or an authorised service centre.

You cannot find your product’s current location

GPS signals may be obstructed in some locations, such as indoors. Set the mobile device connected to the product to use Wi-Fi or a mobile network to find the current location in these situations.

A small gap appears around the outside of the product

  • This gap is a necessary manufacturing feature and some minor rocking or vibration of parts may occur.
  • Over time, friction between parts may cause this gap to expand slightly.
