2022 Stair Nosing Matchables
BEFORE INSTALLING
Richmond Hardwood/Airwood holds no responsibility for the installation of
stair nosing. These installation instructions are a guide for best practices.
Please adhere to your local building codes.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
When installing on stairs, there is no need for expansion or contraction
joints between treads and risers. As per building code, the floor will not be
floated on the stairs, It will be glued down. Do not under any circumstance
use any underlayment on your stairs. This could result in an unsafe condition.
Airwood’s matchable nosing sits flush with the floor. It will be glued to the
stair tread and landing in a fully fixed system. it is recommended to use tape
to hold the nosing in place while adhesive cures.

INSTALLATION
STEP 1
Treads and landings must be structurally sound, flat, dry, clean, smooth and
free from paint, varnish, wax, oils, solvents or any foreign substance that
interfere with the with the bond.
STEP 2
Cut off any existing bullnose remaining on the stair. The stair tread should
be square so the nosing sits flush to the tread and riser. Please do not alter
the width of the nosing and check with local building codes before installing.
Please check with local building codes for any stair requirements before
modifying the dimensions of the nosing.
STEP 3
Measure and cut the nosing to the proper length.
STEP 4
The nosing comes with the floors universal groove, and will lock into place
with the tongue of the floor on the long side of the nosing.
STEP 5
Starting your installation at the nosing will allow you to lock the factory
edge of the flooring into the nosing. Next, dry lay the cut piece of the
nosing on the tread or landing. Measure the distance from the edge of the
nosing to the riser. Cut the flooring to fill the space.
STEP 6
Connect the cut flooring the nosing and dry fit before gluing or face nailing.
Use adhesion by either face nailing, or by using construction adhesive and
taping the nosing in place until cured.
*select flooring pieces that closely resemble the look and colour of the nosing
