READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE AND SAVE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE
WARNING: When using kitchen appliances, basic safety precautions should
always be followed as below:
- Keep children away from the stove while you are cooking. Never allow a child to sit near or under the stove while cooking. Be careful around the stove as heat, steam and splatter can cause burns.
- Always use caution when handling the percolator when in use on the stovetop. Use a potholder or oven mitt as the sides will be very hot. Allow the appliance to cool completely before washing.
- Avoid sliding or dragging your percolator over the surface of your stovetop, especially glass top ranges, as scratches may result. We are not responsible for scratched stovetops.
- Never use your percolator in the microwave.
- This appliance is intended for household, indoor use only.
- Do not use this appliance for other than the intended use.
- Do not store any materials other than the manufacturer’s recommended accessories in this unit when not in use.
PARTS IDENTIFICATION
BEFORE FIRST USE
Read all instructions and important safeguards before first use.
- Wash the percolator, including the cover, basket, spreader and pump tube in warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry the exterior.
- Always place the percolator on a correctly sized burner. Do not use a burner larger than the diameter of the base of the percolator.
- Ensure that the percolator is at least half full of clean water before placing it on the stovetop. Avoid over-filling. The maximum water level should be below the spout of the percolator.
- NEVER ALLOW THE PERCOLATOR TO BOIL DRY. An unattended, empty percolator on a hot burner can get extremely hot, which can cause personal injury and/or property damage.
- Ensure the cover is securely closed on top of the percolator.
- The percolator should only be heated on medium to medium-high heat.
- Use caution when pouring hot coffee or water from the percolator. Always use a potholder when removing the percolator from the stovetop as handles may get hot.
- Always pour hot coffee or water away from your body into your cup or other vessel.
- To avoid hot coffee or water splatters, pour at a low angle into your cup or other vessel. Do not pour from a high angle. Hot coffee or water splatters can cause burns.
- Allow your percolator to cool on a heat-resistant surface. Do not leave your percolator on a hot burner.
- Do not use the percolator which has a damaged spout or handle.
HOW TO USE
-
Remove the cover, spreader, basket and pump tube.
-
Fill with cold, fresh tap water according to markings on the inside of the percolator for the number of cups desired.
-
Wet coffee basket. This helps keep small particles of coffee from sifting through. Place the basket on a pump tube.
-
Add an appropriate amount of coffee to the basket (regular or percolator grind).
-
The following chart is a guide for coffee/water ratios for different brew strengths. Amounts can be adjusted to suit your taste.
-
Adjust brew strength by adding or decreasing coffee amounts.
-
Place the pump tube with the basket into the percolator so that the bottom of the tube is resting on the percolator’s bottom. Place the spreader on top of the basket and snap the cover onto the percolator.
-
The cover should be seated all around the rim of the body.
-
Place the percolator on the burner for brewing. Adjust the gas flame or select a properly sized electric burner so that heat only touches the bottom of the percolator and does not extend up the sides.
-
DO NOT REMOVE LID DURING THE BREWING CYCLE. SCALDING MAY OCCUR. Water pumps out from the top of the pump tube when boiling.
-
When water boils, adjust the burner to low or medium heat. Wait about 5-7 minutes for boiling water to percolate through coffee grounds. Failure to lower heat may cause a boilover.
-
At the end of the brewing cycle, remove from heat and serve. Do not let the percolator boil dry.
-
For the best flavour, remove the pump tube, basket, and spreader after brewing is completed.
NOTE : Use CAUTION when removing parts. Use a pot holder or oven mitt when handling the pump tube, basket and spreader. -
You can pour coffee into a thermal serving carafe to keep warm.
-
If reheating coffee, use only low-heat
NOTE
It is best to use coarse-ground coffee as finer grounds will sift through the
holes in the stainless steel coffee basket and settle at the bottom of the
percolator. If finer grounds are used, a coffee filter disc must be used. The
chart on this (page 4) can be referenced as a guide for brewing coffee at
various strengths.
CAUTION
Never fill the percolator above the maximum level since hot foaming coffee or
other liquids might overflow during heating.
CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
- Empty your percolator after each use.
- Allow the Percolator to cool completely before cleaning.
- Remove the coffee basket, spreader and pump tube carefully as the grounds and remaining coffee may still be warm.
- Wash with warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry. All parts except the cover knob may be cleaned in the dishwasher.
- An accumulation of coffee oil or stains may occur within the percolator which can eventually impair the taste.
- To remove, add 1/3 cup automatic dishwasher detergent to the basket and fill with water to the cup marking. Percolate for 5 minutes.
- Do not use harsh abrasive or steel wool to clean your percolator exterior as scratching may result.
- A spotted white film may form on the exterior of the percolator. To clean, dip a brush or sponge in vinegar or lemon juice and rub the affected area. Wash, rinse and dry.
- Use a stainless steel cleaner and a non-abrasive cloth or sponge to remove discolouration from the exterior surface.
- If mineral deposits form on the inside of your percolator due to hard water, fill the percolator with equal amounts of water and white vinegar. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for ten minutes. Pour out the water and vinegar solution and rinse well. Repeat if necessary.
- Store with cover off.
