Installation into an Existing Concrete Slab

Tools and Materials Required

Warning : Under no circumstances are concrete anchors (wedge, sleeve, etc.) to be used in the installation.

  • 1/2” – 13 x 9” F1554 Grade 55 hot-dipped galvanized threaded bolts (2)
  • Galvanized Washers (2)
  • 1/2” – 13 Galvanized hex nuts (4)
  • Electric or hammer drill
  • Slow Spiral Round-Shank Masonry Drill Bit, 5/8” diameter, 10” Drill Depth, 12” Length Overall
  • Drill Bit for Concrete Embedded Rebar, Round, 5/8” bit size, 12” Length Overall
  • Mounting hole template

Note : Always check local codes to ensure compliance. The guidelines in this manual may need to be adjusted to comply with codes that apply at your installation location.

Installation Instructions

  1. Install two nuts, with a washer between them, so that a length of at least 6” extends beyond the bottom of the lower nut, and at least 3” above the bottom of the lower nut.
  2. Using the stiffener plate as a template, mark the hole locations to be drilled. The holes should be at a distance of 4.25” apart, center-to-center
    • Note : If a buried conduit exists, place the center of the template over the conduit so that the holes are positioned on either side of the conduit.
  3. Remove the template, and drill two 5/8” holes at least 6” into the concrete. The holes mustn’t penetrate the bottom of the concrete. If the concrete is penetrated, the threaded rod installation may be compromised and inadequate for use.
    • Notes
    • The bolts must be parallel to each other after installation. After drilling approximately 1-1 ½”, use a level to verify the drill holes are plumb by checking the angle of the drill.
    • If drilling through the rebar, you may need an additional drill bit for the rebar. Always begin the hole with the standard concrete drill bit, and switch to the rebar drill bit only when drilling through rebar.
  4. Ensure the hole is free from excess dust and particles after drilling by using a vacuum, compressed air, and/or brush.
  5. Fill each hole with concrete epoxy until 2 ½-3” below to top of the holes.
  6. Begin inserting the threaded rods into the epoxy-filled holes, rotating as the rods are inserted.
    • Note: it is critical that the rods are rotated as they are inserted into the epoxy to ensure air gaps are removed, and threads are fully coated in epoxy.
  7. Fill the holes to grade level with epoxy if necessary. Ensure epoxy is not extending outside of the hole or on the surrounding area, remove if necessary.
  8. Insert the mounting bracket onto the threaded rods and align the rods as necessary. The mounting bracket should slide up and down the rods freely. Be sure to let the epoxy cure according to the manufacturer’s specifications before removing and/or applying torque to the nuts.
  9. Remove the mounting bracket and bolts after the epoxy has cured. Clear the area of any epoxy or other debris, ensuring a clean level surface.

  • Torque Wrench
  • Torque Screwdriver

Important: Ensure that the mounting surface is flat and clear of any debris before installation.

  1. Insert the mounting bracket assembly onto the prepared threaded rods.

  2. Place the appropriate sized washers and nuts onto the threaded rod used in installation, tighten the bolts to 45 ft-lbs/58.4N-M (for ½”-13 thread), and verify base plate is level.

  3. Slide the nut plates(A2) inside both sides of the mounting bracket. The nut plate should be inserted with the nuts pointing towards the inside of the mounting bracket and the curved edge pointing down towards the ground.

  4. Insert the pedestal into place by sliding the bottom of the pedestal onto the mounting bracket. The bottom of the pedestal can be identified by having four square-patterned holes on either side.

  5. Secure the pedestal to the mounting bracket by tightening the provided ⅜ -16×1” countersunk screws(A4) into all 8 holes on the bottom of the pedestal. Screws should be tightened using a T40 drive to 20 ft-lbs/26.0 N-m.

  6. Pull the service wiring at this point. For service wire recommendations, please refer to page 10 of the EV002 Installation manual

  7. Using the provided conversion kit, replace the hardware on the EV002 mounting bracket. ( Note: The EV002 mounting bracket is not included in the pedestal box, but can be found attached to the EV002 itself.)
Remove the attached bottom inlet on the EV002 mounting bracket. Replace it with the curved bottom inlet (B1w) using the previously installed screws, tightening to 38 in-lbs.
Remove the top inlet on the EV002 mounting bracket. Replace it with the black top inlet (B2) by using the 4 provided M4x12 Delta-PT style screws(B3), tightening to 10 in-lbs.
