Product Information
The B450 Shadow Box Tall Outdoor Sconce is a modern, hand-crafted lighting fixture produced by Modern American Blacksmiths in Castleton, Vermont, USA. Product Usage Instructions
To Prepare Fixture:
- Before starting the installation, ensure that the power is turned off at the main breaker box.
- Unpack the fixture from the carton carefully.
- Loosen the thumb screw (H) and remove the square tube (I). Set these parts aside for later use.
- Remove the four slotted screws (J) and take off the two accent plates (K). Set these parts aside for later use.
- Apply a generous bead of suitable caulking material (not provided) to the caulking lip (G) on the fixture. The caulking should be applied around the entire perimeter of the backplate.
To Install Fixture On Wall:
- Use two machine screws (not provided) to fasten the crossbar (B) to the electric box, ensuring that the slot in the crossbar is pointing down.
- Thread the stud (C) into one hole in the crossbar (B) that lines up with the hole in the fixture (A). Note that the threaded stud is temporary and is only used to facilitate installation.
- Hold the fixture (A) close to the wall. Use suitable wire connectors (not provided) to connect the fixture wires to the supply wires (white to white and black to black). Attach a pigtail lead to the crossbar (B) using the cupped washer (E) and ground screw (F). Connect all ground wires (bare copper or green to bare copper or green). Ensure that wire connectors are twisted on securely and no bare wires are exposed.
- Slide the fixture (A) over the threaded stud (C) and push it firmly against the wall, ensuring that no wires are pinched between the fixture back and the wall. Fasten the opposite side with an 8-32 screw (D).
Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure proper installation of the B450 Shadow Box Tall Outdoor Sconce. Failure to install the fixture properly may result in serious personal injury or property damage. It is recommended to have the fixture installed by a licensed electrician.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION : FAILURE TO INSTALL THIS FIXTURE PROPERLY MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. We recommend installation by a licensed electrician. This product must be installed by applicable installation code(s), by a person familiar with the construction and operation of the product and the hazards involved.
Please Note: After installation extra hardware and accessories are possible due to our kits being used on multiple products and options.
To Prepare Fixture (Figures 1,2)
CAUTION : BE SURE POWER IS OFF AT THE MAIN BREAKER BOX BEFORE INSTALLATION.
- Carefully unpack the fixture from the carton.
- Loosen thumb screw (H) and remove square tube (I). (Figure 1) Set parts aside for later.
- Remove four slotted screws (J) and remove two accent plates (K). (Figure 1) Set parts aside for later.
- Apply a generous bead of a suitable caulking material (not provided) to the caulking lip (G) on the fixture. Caulk should be applied around the entire perimeter of the backplate. (Figure 2)
- See instructions on the next page to install to the wall.
To Install Fixture On Wall (Figures 3,4)

Using two machine screws (not provided) fasten crossbar (B) to the electric box with the slot in the crossbar pointing down. (Figure 3)
Note : A new electric box comes with screws. When replacing a fixture, retain the existing screws for use with the new fixture. -
Thread stud (C) into one hole in the crossbar (B) that lines up with a hole in the fixture (A).
Note : Threaded stud (C) is temporary and only used to facilitate installation. -
Hold fixture (A) close to the wall. Using suitable wire connectors (not provided) connect fixture wires to supply wires (white to white and black to black). Attach a pigtail lead to the crossbar (B) using a cupped washer (E) and ground screw (F). Connect all ground wires (bare copper or green to bare copper or green).
- CAUTION : MAKE SURE WIRE CONNECTORS ARE TWISTED ON SECURELY AND NO BARE WIRES ARE EXPOSED.

Slide fixture (A) over threaded stud (C) and push firmly to the wall, making sure that no wires are pinched between the fixture back and the wall. Fasten the opposite side with an 8-32 screw (D). (Figure 3)

Remove threaded stud (C), then secure with second 8- 32 screw (D). (Figure 4)

To Complete Installation (Figures 5,6)
- Install accent plates (K) onto fixture (A). The mounting holes for the slotted screw (J) will line up when notches in accent plate (K) fit into notches in the fixture (A). (Figure 5)
- Loosen flat head thumb screw (L) on top of the square tube (I) but do not remove it completely. (Figure 6)
- Set glass block (M) on top of the square tube (I) so that the hole in the glass block is aligned with a flathead thumb screw (L). Tighten flat head thumb screw (L) to secure glass block (M).
- Install wet location B-type bulb (N) (not included) into the top socket (O).
- Install wet location B-type bulb (N) (not included) in the lower socket.
- Install glass shield (P) over B-type bulb (N) and let it rest on the fixture (A) with the curved plate (Q) on the inside of the glass shield (P).
- Carefully slide the square tube (I) around the glass shield (P). Use thumb screw (H) to secure the square tube with attached glass block (M) to fixture (A). Tighten the thumb screw (H) against the square tube to secure it to fixture (A).
- Restore electricity at the main breaker.
