FISHWIRE TECHNIQUE
Insert coiled end of fish wire tool through hitch mounting hole in vehicle
frame rail and out the access hole. Pass coiled end of fish wire through spacer
and thread bolt into coil. Kink wire to keep spacer separate from bolt as
shown.
Pull fish wire, spacer and bolt through frame and out mounting hole. Use fish
wire to guide hitch during mounting and prevent loss of bolt or spacer inside
frame rail.
REVERSE PULL FISHWIRE TECHNIQUE
Attach the fish wire to the carriage bolt and slide the spacer onto the fish
wire.
Push the bolt through the hole followed by the spacer, as shown. Pull the bolt
back into position, protruding from the frame.
WELDNUT CLEANING
To remove debris from walnuts in frame, spray lubricant or compressed air into
the hole. For heavy debris, use a wire brush.
Take care not to damage threads.
Step 1
Remove the fasteners securing the underbody panel. Retain underbody panel and
fasteners for later reinstallation.
Step 2
Depending on the model, remove either four M12 bolts or three M10 bolts
securing the tow loop to the passenger-side frame rail. Retain the three M10
bolts for reinstallation. Return the tow loop and M12 bolts to the owner.
Step 3
If the rear-most driver side hole is not present, raise the hitch into
position and mark the hole to be drilled. Lower the hitch and drill the marked
hole.
Note: Before drilling hole, make sure all existing holes are aligned.
Enlarge the driver-side access hole to allow 7/16″ hardware to pass through.
Step 4
Fish wire the 7/16″ carriage bolt (#4) and square hole spacer (#6) through the
enlarged access hole and out the rear-most hole.
Step 5
Reverse fish wire the 7/16″ carriage bolt (#4)and square hole spacer (#6) into
the enlarged access hole.
Step 6
Raise the hitch into position and secure the driver side using the provided
7/16″ flange nuts (#1). Secure the passenger side with the two provided M12
bolts (#3) into the existing weld nuts in the side of the frame or the
existing three M10 bolts through the frame rail. Secure using the provided M10
flange nuts (#7), as shown.
Step 7
Torque all 7/16″ hardware to 70 ft-lbs.
Torque all M10 hardware to 48 ft-lbs.
Torque all M12 hardware to 90 ft-lbs.
