Product Information
Product Name: 2691 Noseweight Gauge
Description: The 2691 Noseweight Gauge is a tool designed to assess and adjust
the noseweight of a towed vehicle. It is used to measure the amount of weight
pressing down on the hitch of a caravan or trailer. The gauge helps ensure
that the noseweight is
within safe limits and that the load distribution is correct.
Important Note: When assessing or adjusting the noseweight, it is crucial to consider the limits specified by the manufacturer for each component involved in towing, as well as any other limiting factors.
The following components should have specified noseweight limits:
- Towing vehicle
- Vehicle mounted towing device (tow bar)
- Towed vehicle mounted towing device (coupling assembly)
- Towed vehicle drawbar assembly
- Towed vehicle
Product Usage Instructions
- Position the caravan with the hitch over a hard surface.
- Ensure that the caravan handbrake is fully engaged.
- Remove any chocks from the wheels.
- Raise the corner steadies of the caravan.
- Raise the caravan by using the jockey wheel handle to the required height, allowing for the insertion of the Noseweight Gauge into the hitch.
- Ensure that the Noseweight Gauge is safely located and square to the ground.
- Turn the jockey wheel handle to lower the caravan onto the Noseweight Gauge, and continue to raise the jockey wheel until the full noseweight is supported by the gauge.
- Measure the noseweight using the gauge.
- If necessary, adjust the caravan loading to achieve the correct noseweight. Follow the advice provided by the caravan manufacturer for load distribution.
- After usage, store the Noseweight Gauge in the provided storage bag to protect it against contamination and heavy impacts.
Following these instructions will help ensure safe and proper usage of the 2691 Noseweight Gauge.
When assessing/ adjusting the noseweight of the towed vehicle, the limiting noseweights that individual components are able to sustain should be taken into account as well as those that the towed vehicle can sustain.
Components
The following components should all have limits of noseweight specified by the manufacturer, and any other limiting factors should also be considered in the assessment/adjustment of the noseweight of the towed vehicle:
- a) towing vehicle;
- b) vehicle mounted towing device (tow bar);
- c) towed vehicle mounted towing device (coupling assembly);
- d) towed vehicle drawbar assembly;
- e) towed vehicle
