WARNING : It is imperative that these instructions are read and observed when using this range of products. The selection and use of these products are the exclusive responsibility of the individual operator and DEWALT suggest a Health and Safety professional is consulted to aid in the selection of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The DEWALT Half Mask is designed to protect the respiratory system against hazardous gases and particles. It is not a complete respiratory protective device by itself, but serves as a face piece for use with approved DEWALT respiratory filters. Respirator Filter selection shall be based upon full knowledge of, and professional evaluations of, the contaminants and their maximum content in the subject atmosphere. This device does NOT supply oxygen, and must only be used in adequately ventilated areas containing at least 19.5 percent oxygen.

Do not use for respiratory protection against atmospheric contaminates/concentrations which are unknown, exhibit poor warning properties or are immediately dangerous to life.
The respirator should not be used in either oxygen deficient or oxygen- enriched environments, for escape purposes or by people with facial hair growth between the skin and facepiece sealing surface such as stubble, beard growth, or sideburns which cross the respirator surface or in an atmosphere where contaminant concentrations exceed those levels that are dangerous to life.
These products are designed to protect individuals. Inappropriate use, maintenance or servicing may affect the function of the device and therefore seriously injure or compromise the operator’s life.
Prior to use, the products’ functionality must be proved. The product must not be used if this test is unsuccessful, or if the product is found to be damaged, or if the servicing / maintenance has not been undertaken, or if genuine DEWALT spare parts have not been used.
The product contains NO electrical parts that may cause an ignition source in flammable or explosive atmospheres, but holds no approval for use in these environments.

Description

The DEWALT Half mask has been tested and approved to EN 140 to provide the approved level of respiratory protection to a user.
The mask is available in two sizes – Medium and Large. This allows a higher probability of a good fit being achieved.
– The respirator consists of an Oronasal mask with inhalation and exhalation valves that covers the user’s nose, mouth and chin, a head har ness that holds the respirator in place, and two filter bayonets for connecting DEWALT Filter elements.
The inhaled air flows through the filter elements and inhalation valves into mask. The exhaled air is discharged from the face piece through an exhalation valve.
Description

Pre-Use Checks

WARNING : Before donning the respirator always perform the following checks.

  • Ensure that the respirator is clean and dry.

  • Check the respirator, valves, and head harness for cracks, missing parts, and other defects.

  • Check that the appropriate filters are within their expiry date, undamaged and installed correctly, with the filter and mask arrows aligned (see diagrams 01,02 and 03). When fitting the filters, they will require a firm steady pressure clockwise when viewed from the front.

  • The 2 x filter elements must be of the same type and class.

Donning

  • Select an appropriately sized mask. Recommended sizes are 109-131mm for Medium and > 120mm Large, based on distance between top of nose and chin (see diagram 04).
    Donning

  • Slacken the head harness straps.

  • Connect Harness buckles (see diagrams 05 and 06).
    Donning
    Donning

  • Move the head harness upwards and spread with hand, place your chin in the facepiece and pull the head harness over your head (see diagram 07).
    Donning

  • Ensure head harness is sitting correctly towards rear of head, is lying flat, and is not bunched or twisted (see diagram 08).
    Donning

  • Tension the straps by pulling down on straps at front under mask, which you will feel transfers the weight of the mask to the top of your head. Then tension strap behind neck by pulling the free strap ends towards the rear (see diagrams 09 and 10).
    Donning
    Donning

  • Adjust the fit of the mask on your face, with your chin firmly fitted in the face piece. Ensure that the mask is not too far up the face, and that it fits firmly but remains comfortable.

  • Secure harness position under side slides found below exhale valve cover (see diagram 11).
    Donning

  • Perform a fit check (see diagram 14 and the Leak Testing section below for more information) and readjust if required.
    Donning

Leak Testing

WARNING : A proper fit check must be successfully completed each time the respirator is worn. Failure to achieve a proper face-to-respirator seal before you enter a hazardous atmosphere may result in little or no respiratory protection.
Negative Pressure Check / Fit Check

  • Place palms of hands over filter elements to provide an airtight seal (see diagram 14).
  • Inhale gently, and the respirator should pull inward on the face.
  • Hold your breath, the respirator should remain collapsed on the face.
  • If air leaks between the face and the face seal adjust the mask for a more secure seal and repeat test.
  • If leak test fails, the mask cannot be used and should be checked for serviceability

During Use

WARNING : If you experience any one of the following signs whilst using the product, leave the hazardous area immediately.
Return to fresh air and seek assistance.

  • Breathing difficulties.
  • Dizziness or nausea.
  • You can smell or taste the contaminant.
  • You experience any other noticeable physical effects.
  • Your equipment becomes damaged.

Doffing

  • Slacken the neck straps.
  • Pull the head harness forward over your head and remove the respirator.
  • Decontaminate, clean and store respirator as required.

Cleaning / Disinfecting

WARNING : Do not use cleaning products containing hydrocarbons or solvents such as acetone, or detergents with abrasive particles for cleaning.

  • Remove filter assembly and store or dispose of as required.
  • Clean mask parts using lukewarm soapy water or mild generic cleaning agent.
  • Thoroughly rinse in clean running water.
  • Disinfect mask after cleaning using generic approved disinfecting agent/wipes, or in a solution of 1 teaspoon (5ml) of household bleach (5.25% sodium hypochlorite) mixed in one gallon of water (50-PPM chlorine).
  • Immerse the respirator in the solution for at least 2 minutes.
  • Rinse thoroughly in clean running water.
  • Allow mask components to dry naturally, do not apply direct heat.
  • Reassemble mask in reverse order.

Storage

  • Store the respirator in a clean, cool, dry place out of direct sunlight between -10°C and +50°C with a Relative Humidity (RH) under 75%. A correctly stored, unused mask stays in good condition for a long storage period.
  • DEWALT gives the product a shelf life of 5 years from the date of manufacture (providing the product is cleaned, stored, and maintained as per these instructions and manufacturer advice).
  • No special packaging is required to store or transport mask

Maintenance

WARNING: Replace all damaged parts immediately to ensure correct level of protection.

  • This product should be regularly checked and serviced by a trained specialist.

  • Inspection and Service records must be maintained for each mask.

  • Genuine original manufacturer parts should only be used.

  • Changes to the product or its components are not permitted and will result in the loss of approval.

  • To replace exhalation valve, remove the exhale valve cover, remove the exhale valve, and replace with new valve. Then, refit the exhale cover (see diagrams 12 and 13).

  • To replace inhale/inhalation valve(s), remove the inhalation valve(s) in the Oronasal and refit new valves ensuring they are correctly seated and flat (see diagram 15).

  • To avoid confusion, the exhalation valve is stepped and larger than the inhalation valves.

  • Carry out a leak tightness / fit test.

A Either every 3, 6 or 12 months depending on wear frequency and working environment. Organizational risk assessment required to establish.

  • DEWALT recommends the above maintenance intervals but extreme operating environments may require a more frequent servicing interval to be adopted.
  • If components have been replaced (e.g., Inhale/Exhale valves), a test for function and leak-tightness must be carried out with an appropriate test device.
  • If individual changes physically, a leak tightness must also be carried out with an appropriate test device.
  • The test should also be done in case of a mask stored unused for a longer period, and at least once a year.
