The right groove can be used for making narrow piping tape. It’s simple to make your own piping by covering cord (5/64” (2mm) diameter) with fabric.
To prepare:
Cut fabric into bias strips wide enough to wrap around the cord plus 1” (25mm) (this will allow for approximately 1/2” (12mm) seam allowance) times the length of piping needed.
Fold bias strip around cord, right side out, matching raw edges. To Sew:
Raise the needle and piping foot.
Place fabric, with cord inside, under the presser foot with the cord in the right groove.
Lower the foot so that the corded part of the tape fits the right groove on the bottom of the foot. Sew, encasing the cord while guiding it into the right groove as shown. The left groove can be used for attaching narrow piping tape.
To attach Piping Tape
Raise the needle and the piping foot.
Insert the corded piping tape between two pieces of fabric (right sides
together) and place them under the foot. Lower the foot so that the corded
part of the tape fits in the left groove on the bottom of the foot.
Sew the fabric while guiding the piping into the left groove as shown.
- To sew curves, snip several spots on the tape.
