SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

GENERAL SAFETY

  • Locate the log splitter in a suitable work area, keep the area clean and tidy, free from unrelated materials and ensure there is adequate lighting.
  • Keep the log splitter clean for best performance.
  • Remove ill fitting clothing, ties, watches, rings and other loose jewellery and contain loose hair.
  • Maintain correct balance and footing, do not over-reach. Ensure the floor is not slippery and wear non-slip, protective footwear.
  • Keep children and unauthorised persons away from the work area.
  • DO NOT use the log splitter for a task it is not designed to perform.
  • DO NOT operate the log splitter if damaged.
  • DO NOT operate the log splitter when you are tired or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or intoxicating medication.
  • DO NOT allow untrained persons to operate the log splitter.
  • DO NOT make any modifications to the log splitter.
  • DO NOT operate the log splitter in wet or damp areas or expose it to rain.
  • Store the log splitter in a safe area away from children and other people not qualified to use the log splitter.
  •  Wear protective gloves.
  • Always wear safety goggles. Everyday spectacles are not sufficient protection.
  • The log splitter must always be operated by one person only. Other people must keep a safe distance from the log splitter, especially when it is in operation.
  • Ensure that there are no nails, screws or other foreign objects in logs to be split.
  • The end of logs should be cut square.
  • WARNING! The warnings, cautions and instructions referred to in this manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood that common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into this product, but must be applied by the operator.

NOTE: This tool is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the tool by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the tool.

INTRODUCTION & SPECIFICATION

A safe and simple substitute for an axe. Designed to take the backache and danger out of splitting logs. Hand powered, with up to 10 tonnes of splitting force. Suitable for small to medium sized logs, including kindling. Easily assembled, transported and stored. No maintenance required.

OPERATION

  1. Find a suitable large log or tree stump, sit the log on a hard, stable surface.
    NOTE: the splitter uses high impact force to split the log do not use on any surface that can be damaged.
    Assemble the log splitter (refer to fig.1).

  2. Drill a hole approximately 20mm in diameter and 75mm depth, in the top of the log for the bottom of the log splitter shaft to fit in.

  3. Place the bottom of the log splitter shaft in the hole, position the blade on the log to be split at the required point.

  4. Grasp the handle of the impact weight and lift it to 20cm from the top of the shaft.

  5. Force the weight down quickly to hit the cylindrical top of the blade to split the log. It may be necessary to do this more than once.

  6. Keep your body clear of the pieces of falling log.
    Operation Instructions

Environmental Protection.

Recycle unwanted materials instead of disposing of them as waste. All tools, accessories and packaging should be sorted, taken to a recycle centre and disposed of in a manner which is compatible with the environment.
