Product Information

  • The Side Loading Kayak Carrier 570, 580 is a rooftop accessory designed to securely transport kayaks on your vehicle. It is manufactured by Rhino-Rack, a reputable company with locations in Australia and the USA.

  • The carrying capacity of the kayak carrier should not exceed the maximum roof carrying capacity specified by your vehicle manufacturer. This includes the weight of the roof racks,
    accessories, and kayaks. It is important to distribute the load evenly and keep the center of gravity as low as possible.

  • The product is sensitive to crosswinds, which may affect the handling characteristics of your vehicle. Exercise caution when transporting wind-resisting loads and pay special attention to braking.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Before installation, check the Rhino-Rack website for the latest issue of the instructions.
  2. Refer to your fitting instruction manual to ensure correct installation.
  3. Inspect the contents of the kit before starting the installation and report any discrepancies.
  4. After installation, place these instructions in your vehicle’s glove box.
  5. Follow these instructions meticulously to uphold the warranty.
  6. Estimated fit time is 15 minutes.
  7. Ensure that all bolted connections are checked each time they are re-fitted.
  8. Use the specified torque settings for fasteners unless stated otherwise:
    • M6: 3-4lbs/ft
    • M8: 8-10Nm or 6-7.5lbs/ft
    • M10: 16-18Nm or 12-13lbs/ft
  9. Take into account the sensitivity to crosswinds, curves, and braking when driving with a load on the roof.
  10. If using the roof racks on off-road conditions, divide the maximum load rating by 1.5. Subtract the weight of the roof racks to determine the maximum permissible load capacity.
  11. For utility vehicles with a cabin and canopy, rigidly fix the item being transported to either the cabin roof racks or the canopy roof racks to prevent damage.
  12. Paddleboards and surfboards should be fixed to the front of the vehicle.

Important:

  1. Check the Rhino-Rack website to ensure you have the latest issue of these instructions.
  2. Please refer to your fitting instruction to ensure that the accessory is installed in the correctly.
  3. Check the contents of kit before commencing fitment and report any discrepancies.
  4. Place these instructions in the vehicle’s glove box after installation is complete.
  5. These instructions must be followed for warranty to be upheld.

Carrying Capacity

  • Check the vehicle owners hand book for your vehicle manufacturer’s maximum carrying capacity. Do not exceed the vehicle manufacturer’s maximum roof carrying capacity.
  • The weight of the roof racks, accessories, and kayaks must be included in the total vehicle roof load. Ensure that all loads are evenly distributed and that the centre of gravity is kept as low as possible.

Warning

  • Do not attempt to fit the accessory to your vehicle unless you fully understand these fitting instructions. Please direct any questions regarding fitting to the dealer from where the product was purchased.
  • Off-road conditions can be much more rigorous. Extreme care must be taken in off road conditions.
  • Accessory must be removed when vehicle is put through an automatic car wash.
  • Always ensure you fasten your load securely.

In service maintenance checks

  • All bolted connections should be checked after driving a short distance when you first install your roof racks & accessories.
  • All bolted connections should be checked again at regular intervals (every 1000k/621mi) is recommended, depending on road conditions, usage, loads and distances travelled). All bolted connections should be checked each time they are re-fitted.

Torque Settings:

  • Unless stated otherwise in these instructions, all fasteners should be set to the following torque settings:

  • Sensitivity to Crosswinds, Behaviour in Curves and Braking.

  • Remember that the handling characteristics of your vehicle will change when transporting a load on the roof.

  • Exercise extreme care when transporting wind-resisting loads; special consideration must be taken into account when braking.

  • Important Load Carrying Instructions
  • With utility vehicles, the cabin and the canopy move independently.
  • Roof racks and vehicle can be damaged if the item transported is rigidly fixed at points on both the cabin and canopy.
