Calix Provision 1 Gigabit Data Service Virtual Lab
Product Information
The Calix University Virtual Labs provide a hands-on learning experience for
attendees of the 2023 NTTA Tribal Broadband Summit. In this lab, participants
will learn how to provision a 1 Gigabit data service to a residential
subscriber using Calix equipment and software. The lab environment is designed
to simulate real-world scenarios and is equipped with state-of-the-art
software and equipment, ensuring that participants learn in alignment with the
current industry standards and practices. Expert technical trainers are
available to provide real-time support and guidance throughout the lab. The
lab has an estimated completion time of 15 minutes, with no prerequisites
required. Participants have two attempts to complete the lab within an
allotted time of 1 hour.
Product Usage Instructions
- Launch the Virtual Lab Environment:
- From the Calix University Course Catalog, select “Provision a 1 Gigabit Data Service”.
- Click “Start” to launch the hands-on virtual lab.
- Navigating the Lab:
- Once the lab environment is loaded, follow the instructions on the right side of the page to begin.
- To view all instructions, you may need to scroll.
- To adjust the size of the instructions pane, click and drag the pane divider.
- To open the instructions in a separate window, click on the drop-down menu in the upper-left corner of the instructions pane and select “Split Windows”.
- Completing the Lab:
- After completing the assigned tasks, click the “Next” button located in the bottom right corner of the instructions pane.
- When finished, click the “End” button in the bottom right corner of the instructions pane.
- You will be directed to a page where you can mark the lab as complete. Select “End my lab and mark it as complete”, then click “OK”.
- To download your certificate of completion, log in to your account at http://calix.learnondemand.net/. Go to the My Transcript tab, and under Course Assignments, click the certificate icon next to “Provision a 1 Gigabit Data Service”.
- Provide Feedback:
- After completing the lab, you can provide feedback by selecting the My Dashboard tab and clicking on the lab “Provision a 1 Gigabit Data Service”.
- Enter your response in the provided field at the bottom of the page, and then click “Submit”.

Getting Started Guide
Experience the power of hands-on learning through a lab custom-built for attendees of the 2023 NTTA Tribal Broadband Summit. In this guided learning experience, you will learn how to provision a 1 Gigabit data service to a residential subscriber using the following Calix Equipment and software:
- Service Management Connector (SMx): This is the management platform for running
- Calix systems running the Access eXtensible operating system (AXOS).
- Optical Line Terminal (OLT): Calix E7-2 with 2XG801 XGS/GPON passive optical network cards.
- Optical Network Terminal (ONT): Virtual Calix GP1100X 10 Gigabit ONT
- No prior experience or knowledge? Not a problem! Instructions will be provided to help you complete each step of the process.
About the lab system Requirements
- Windows 7 or later, macOS 10.12 or later
- Supported browsers: Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari
- Estimated time to complete: 15 minutes
- Prerequisites: none
- Attempts: 2
- Allotted time: 1 hour
- Launching the Virtual Lab Environment
- From the Calix University Course Catalog, select [Provision a 1 Gigabit Data Service].
- This will take you to the page shown below. Click [Start] to launch the hands-on virtual lab.
You will be taken to a loading page as the virtual lab environment is created.
Once this process is complete, the page will automatically redirect you to the
lab activity
Note: This process will take approximately 10-15 minutes.
Navigating the Lab
Once you have accessed the lab environment, you will be able to interact
directly with the virtual interface. Follow the instructions on the right side
to begin. Note: You may need to scroll to view all the instructions on the
page. After completing the assigned tasks, click the [Next] button located in
the bottom right corner of the instructions pane
To fill out a text field, first click on the field to select it. Then click on the green text provided in the instructions to autofill, or type into the field directly using the lab interface.

To open the instructions in a separate window, click on the drop-down menu in the upper left corner of the instructions pane, and select [Split Windows]
Completing the Lab
When you have finished the lab activity, click the [End] button in the bottom right corner of the instructions pane
You will then be directed to the following page. Select [End my lab and mark it as complete], and then click [OK]. To download your certificate of completion, log in to your account at http://calix.learnondemand.net/. From the My Transcript tab, underneath Course Assignments, click the certificate icon found to the right of Provision a 1 Gigabit Data Service
