Mounting The Giant Wall Clock Kit
Please unpack all of the components carefully. The clock movement is pre installed in the clock movement cover. The clock hands are also pre installed. Please remove them carefully from the slits in the cardboard packaging.
-
The first step is to decide where you want your Giant Wall Clock Kit to be located. You need to determine where the center of the clock will be and consider how far from the center you wish to locate the numbers. The minute hand is about 17 %” long from center to tip, so you could position the outside edge of the numbers as close as 18” from the center. You could also position the numbers just outside of the path of the minute hand for a really large clock design.
-
Use the paper-mounting template to determine where you want the center of the clock to be. Use a small amount of tape to hold the mounting template in place. Consider using a level to establish that the 12:00 and 6:00 positions are straight up and down. Make a small hole in the center of the mounting template that goes through the paper into the wall itself.
-
You may want to consider using a 3-foot ruler and extending the lines from the mounting template out to where you want the numbers to be. This can be done with a pencil and erased later. You can also place a small nail to the wall in the center of the clock, attach a piece of string to it, then attach the other end of the string to a pencil and use that to draw perfect circles where you want the numbers to be. Remove the paper-mounting terneplate.
-
Now install the black plastic wall-mounting bracket (#1). This should be centered based on the small hole you made with the paper-mounting template.
Mark the two slots using for mounting the wall-mounting bracket. If you are going into drywall, drill a hole slightly smaller than the drywall anchors and insert them into the holes within the two slots you marked. Tap gently with a hammer until they are flush with your wall. If you are going into a stud in drywall or a plaster wall, do not use the drywall anchors. Drill a hole smaller than the mounting screws and mount the screws through the wall- mounting bracket directly into the wall. -
The clock movement is pre installed in the black plastic clock movement cover. The clock hands are pre installed as well. Make sure that both hands are pointing to the 12:00 position. inspect the hour and minute hands from the side to make sure that they are not touching. If they are, either hand can be bent slightly to correct this problem.
-
Mounting the clock numbers: In steps 2 & 3 we discussed using the paper mounting template to make marks on your wall to indicate proper placement for the black numbers. If you did not do this, then you should now install the clock movement cover with the movement and hands installed (2) to the wall-mounting bracket with the two screws provided. You can manually move the minute hand to get an indication of where the numbers should be mounted. These numbers are delicate, especially the roman numerals due to their intricate shape.
-
Carefully cut out each number with a pair of scissors. Then remove the solid white backing material from the first number you wish to install. Press the number with the exposed adhesive side to your wall, making sure that the position is exactly where you want it. Firmly rub the number to make sure that it has good contact with your wall. Continue to peel off the backing as you press the number to your wall, making sure that any air bubbles are removed as you press the numbers on. We suggest that you not try to remove these numbers and atternpt to re position them. Start by mounting the 12, then the 6, then the 3 and then the
-
If you wish to use all 12 numbers then use the hands to help you position the remaining numbers.
-
Unscrew the clock movement cover from the wall mounting bracket. Install a fresh “AA” battery in the position indicated in the battery well. Re install the clock movement cover with the hands, movement and battery installed into the wall mounting bracket. Using your finger gently move the minute and hour hands until you have reached the 12:00 position. Make sure that the hands are parallel and not touching. Move the minute hand only until you reach the 6:30 position. Check again to make sure that the hands are parallel. If not, adjust accordingly.
-
Now use you finger to move the minute hand forward to the present time. Sit back and enjoy your new Giant Wall Clock!
