Using the Horizon DAB Radio
Power supply (Adapter): Insert the mains adapter into your AC power socket. Connect into the 5V Micro USB charging port of the back of the device.
CAUTION:
Only use the supplied power adapter for this device.
Do not use the included power adapter for other devices.
NOTE: Disconnect from mains power supply during longer periods of non-
use.
Battery use:
Please note when using battery mode the battery symbol “ ” will appear on the
display screen showing the remaining battery level.
USB Charge:
The USB charge port is 5V 500mah output for charging additional devices such
as mobile phones.
Operating your radio – DAB:
- Carefully extend the telescopic aerial.
- Press the ON/OFF button to switch on your radio. The display will display “Welcome to digital radio.”
- If this is the first time to switch on, the product will go into DAB Mode. It will automatically start ‘Scanning’ to search for available stations. (If DAB Mode has been used before, the Horizon will automatically select the previously played station).
- Pressing and holding “SCAN” at any time will automatically start an auto scan. During the scanning process, the lower line of the display shows a bar-graph indicating progress of the scan.
- When the scanning is completed the first station (in alphanumeric order) will be selected. The clock will automatically set to the current time.
- If the station list is still empty after the scan your radio will display “Service not available”.
- If no stations are found, please ensure the aerial is extended and test the reception by doing another auto scan in a different location inside or outside of your home.
Selecting a station – DAB:
- The top line of the display shows the name of the station currently selected.
- Push the << or >> buttons to select the list of available stations on the lower line of the display, and push the ENTER button to confirm the desired station
Finding new radio stations – DAB:
- Press “SCAN” for auto scan. The display will show “Scanning…” and your radio will perform a scan of the Band III DAB channels. As new radio stations are found the station counter on the right-hand side of the display will increase and the radio stations will be added to the list stored in the radio.
Secondary services – DAB:
- Some radio stations have additional secondary services associated with them. If a radio station has a secondary service associated with it the display will show “>>” next to the station name on the station list. The secondary service will then appear immediately after the primary services as you push the << or >> buttons.
- Press ENTER to select the station
- When the secondary service shuts down, your radio will automatically switch back to the main radio station if it is available.
Auto Scan – DAB:
As an alternative to clicking the menu to select a station, your radio can automatically scan and save available stations.
- Press the MENU button and then << or >> buttons until you find “Auto Scan Now”.
- Press ENTER to confirm to Auto Scan. Once complete you can choose from all the available stations from the list.
Manual Tuning – DAB:
Manual tuning allows you to tune your radio to a particular DAB frequency in
Band III. Any new stations found will be added to the station list. This
function can also be used to assist the positioning of the aerial or the radio
to optimise reception for a specific channel or frequency.
- When in DAB mode, press MENU.
- Choose “Manual tune”
- Choose the required DAB channel / Frequency. Press ENTER. When the radio has scanned, the display shows the channel number with frequency(MHz) and the name of the multiplex found(if any). A bar graph shows the signal strength. Any new stations found on the scanned DAB multiplex will be added to the list already stored in the radio.
- Press MENU to go back and choose a different frequency.
- Press MENU a second time to access back to the main menu.
Dynamic Range Control Settings – DAB:
Dynamic Range Control (also known as DRC) is a technology used to help make quieter sounds easier to hear in a noisy environment.

Press the ON/OFF button to switch on your radio.

Press MENU then the << or >> buttons until the display shows “DRC”. Press ENTER to enter the settings menu.

Press the << or >> buttons until “DRC” is highlighted.
-
Press ENTER to enter the adjustment mode.
-
Press the << or >> buttons to select the required DRC setting (the default is 0).
DRC OFF – DRC is switched off, Broadcast DRC will be ignored. DRC LOW – DRC level is set to 1/2 that sent by broadcaster. DRC HIGH – DRC level is used as sent by broadcaster. -
Press MENU to confirm the setting. The display will return back to normal.
Note: Not all DAB broadcasts are able to use the DRC function
Auto Search Tuning – FM:
- Extend the telescopic aerial fully and press the ON/OFF button to switch on your radio.
- Press MODE to enter FM mode.
- Press the << or >> button and hold for 2 seconds. Your radio will auto search and stop
automatically when it finds the next available station and will play it. You can long press again the >> to fast search the next available station. Continue this until you find the station you require.
Manual Tuning – FM:

When in FM mode, press MENU.

Press hold << or >> buttons until the Horizon starts an auto search.
It automatically stop on the next available station and play. -
Continue to press the << or >> buttons until you reach the station you want to play.

You can also press once the << or >> button to fine tune the FM frequency by 50MHz each press.
Pre-set Stations Store – FM and DAB:
You may store your preferred DAB and FM radio stations to the pre-set station
memories. There are 60 memory presets in your radio, 30 for DAB and 30 for FM.
- Select the desired Mode (DAB OR FM)
- Tune to the required station (The station you want to save must be selected and currently playing before you can save it in presets).
- Press and (HOLD DOWN) “PRESET” until, “Preset Store” is displayed. Use the << or >> arrow buttons to highlight the desired preset number slot you want the station to be saved in.
- Press ENTER to confirm. You will see “Pre-set 01 stored”. The station will be stored under the chosen pre-set number. Repeat this procedure to add more preset stations
- Stations which have been stored in pre-set memories may be overwritten by following the above procedure.
Recalling Pre-sets:
- Press PRESET (one quick press) so the display will show “Preset Recall”. Then press << or >> to go to find your saved preset station and press ENTER. The station will be played.
- The first four stored presets can be accessed quickly by press the 1/2/3/4 button. This will circle through the first 1 to 4 presets. Press ENTER to play.
Note: If you have not previously stored a pre-set station and the preset button is pressed “Empty preset” will be displayed.
Brightness settings:
Press the Dimmer/Snooze button for five levels of brightness: Level 1, Level
2, Level 3, level 4(high brightness) and display OFF for night display.
Sleep function:
Your radio can be set to turn off after a pre-set time has elapsed.
The sleep setting can be adjusted between 15 and 90 minutes. Ensure your radio
is switched on.
- Press SLEEP until “Set Sleep time” is highlighted on the display.
- Press SLEEP continuously to set 15, 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 minutes or Sleep Off which will cancel the sleep function.
- The sleep timer indicator “ “ will show on the display. Your radio will switch off after the pre-set sleep time has elapsed.
Time/Date Setting:
When you have no DAB/FM signal, you’ll need to set the TIME and DATE manually.
- Press MENU to enter the settings menu.
- Press the << or >> buttons until “Settings”, press ENTER to confirm.
- Press the << or >> buttons until “Set Time/Date”, press ENTER to confirm. Or the << or >> buttons to set the time AUTO UPDATE 12/24 hours, and date format as well.
- Press the << or >> buttons and ENTER to set the correct time and date.
Alarm Setting:
NOTE: PLEASE SELECT A RADIO STATION BEFORE SETTING THE ALARM.
You will be given the option to choose from last station used or one of your
favourite pre-set stations.

Press ALARM1/2 to enter the setting menu.
-
Press the << or >> buttons to set the alarm hour time and press ENTER to confirm. Do the same for minutes and press ENTER to confirm.

Press the << or >> buttons to set the duration 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 minutes and press ENTER to confirm.

Press the << or >> buttons to set the alarm source (Choose between DAB,FM or BUZZER) and ENTER to confirm.

If you choose DAB radio or FM radio as your alarm you can choose from last station listened or choose from your favourite pre-set channels 01 to 30 Press the << or >> buttons to scroll between last listened and pre-set channels.

Press the << or >> buttons to set the Once / Daily / Weekdays / Weekends, so to choose the days on which the alarm is active.
(Once) Alarm will only sound for 1 day only.
(Daily) Alarm will sound for 7 days of the week.
(Weekdays) Alarm will sound Monday to Friday.
(Weekends) Alarm will sound Saturday and Sunday. -
Press the << or >> to set the alarm volume and press ENTER to confirm.

Press the << or >> buttons to set the alarm as ON or OFF and press ENTER to save the alarm setting
Snooze – Stop Alarm – Disable Alarms:
- When the alarm sounds, pressing the ZZZZZ button will temporarily silence (SNOOZE) the alarm, you can choose the time from 5, 10, minutes and snooze off.
- The snooze function also has a countdown allowing you to see how long before the alarm sound starts again.
Stop Alarm
When the alarm is sounding you can press button one time to stop the alarm
sound for that day. The Horizon will then return to Standby mode.
How to Enable or Disable your Alarms 1 or 2 once you have set them:
Long press 1/2 for Alarm 1 on
Long press 1/2 for Alarm 1 off
Long press 1/2 for Alarm 2 on
Long press 1/2 for Alarm 2 off
Long press 1/2 for Alarm 1 and 2 on
Long press 1/2 for Alarm 1 and 2 off.
You will see the 1 2 symbol on the display screen when each Alarm is active
BT Wireless Audio:
BT Wireless Audio allows you to stream your music wirelessly from any BT Wireless Audio-enabled media player, including smartphones, tablets, laptops and other MP3 Players. To pair your device via BT Wireless Audio for the 1st time:
- Select the BT Wireless Audio Mode by pressing the “MODE” button.
- After a few seconds the screen will then say “BT SEARCHING” and the speaker automatically goes into pairing mode.
- On your BT Wireless Audio Device do a search and once available please select “AZATOM Horizon 2”.
- After 5-20 seconds the screen will say “BT connected”.
- You are ready to start streaming via BT Wireless Audio. Play any sound on your BT Wireless audio device and listen on the Horizon speaker.
Whenever the BT Wireless Audio Mode is selected, the Horizon will automatically go into pairing mode and either pair with the last paired device (if in range) or be available for pairing to a new device.
AUX-IN:
Aux-in mode plays audio from an external source such as a smartphone or
tablet.
- Plug on end of 3.5mm audio cable (excluded) into the headphone or line out jack on your player, plug the other end of cable into the unit AUX-IN jack on the back of the unit.
- Turn on the external audio source and play your device.
- Press MODE button to “Auxiliary Input” mode.
- The volume level can be now controlled through the main unit.
Factory reset:
If your radio fails to operate correctly, or some digits on the display are missing or incomplete, it may be possible to restore normal operation by carrying out a system reset on your radio. This will restore the radio’s settings to the factory default. No presets will be stored, and the list of DAB radio stations will be empty.

Press MENU to enter the menu.

Press the << or >> buttons until the display shows “Settings”, then press ENTER to enter the settings menu.
-
Press the << or >> buttons until the display shows “Factory Reset”. Press ENTER.
-
If you wish to perform the reset operation, push the Fast-Forward or Rewind buttons until “YES” is highlighted on the display and press. A full reset of your radio will be performed. All presets and station lists will be erased.
If you do not wish to reset your radio press the Fast-Forward or Rewind buttons until “NO” is highlighted. Your radio will return to the previous menu. -
After a system reset a scan of the DAB band will be performed.
In case of malfunction due to electrostatic discharge, reset the product (temporary disconnection of the power adaptor may be required) to resume normal operation.
Using Earphones:
- Plug the earphones into the Earphone socket on the back of your radio.
- Check that the Volume level is not too loud before listening through the earphones.
