Discuss how VNQM polling works
-
Most IP SLA operations are polled via SNMP
-
ICMP path echo and ICMP path jitter operations are polled via command line
-
All polling of supported Cisco Nexus devices is done via command line
-
Cisco call managers are polled via SNMP, command line, and AXL
-
Avaya call managers are polled via SNMP and command line
-
VNQM polls operations twice as fast as their polling frequency

iscuss VNQM’s issues with some versions of IOS where it fails to create operations:

In this situation, delete the operation from VNQM, then connect to a manually created operation. We cannot assist with creating an operation manually or scheduling it.
If the customer wishes to create an operation on a Nexus device, they’ll have to create and schedule the operation independently before it can be added to VNQM. -
Demonstrate how to create, add, and manage operations
-
Choose an operation type at:

□Click on the link for the operation type and step through the process. Echo operations are the easiest to start with. TCP connect operations are often desired to confirm a port is reachable. The UDP Jitter operation provides the largest amount of data.

CALL MANAGERS AND GATEWAYS
-
Add a call manager to VNQM
-
If adding a Cisco call manager, first configure it to communicate with VNQM:

IMPORTANT If the customer wants to retain CDR and CMR files, encourage them to set up a second billing server to send the files to a second FTP server. If they don’t want to do this, advise them to set up an automated job that will regularly move downloaded files from the FTP directory, so this directory doesn’t become too big for VNQM to pull records from before timing out. -
If adding an Avaya call manager, configure it to send data to the Orion server:

NOTE: the configuration must be exactly as specified in this article. If the customer wants to send call data to another server, multiple servers can be configured in step 8 -
Once configured, add the call manager to VNQM:
