Refer to these instructions before and after each use. Read and understand warning below before first use. Retain a copy for your permanent records. Retain a second copy to keep with the device.
Additional information regarding auxiliary equipment can be found in NFPA 1500 and NFPA 1858 and NFPA 1983, incorporated in the 2022 edition of NFPA 2500.

WARNING!
Your Hitch-Plate™ is a very specialized piece of equipment. In order to stay safe, it must be treated with respect:

  1. It is YOUR responsibility to carefully read and understand these instructions before using your Hitch-Plate™. Keep these instructions for future eference. Failure to follow instructions can lead to loss, serious injury, or death.
  2. You must use your Hitch-Plate™ only for rope rescue work. It must never be used for winching, towing, or vehicle recovery. You must store your Hitch-Plate in its supplied case. Never leave it or drive with it in the receiver.
  3. Climbing, mountaineering and rescue work are dangerous activities. Even when properly done, events can happen that may lead to loss, injury, or even death. You must seek proper professional instruction in climbing, rescue before ever using your Hitch-Plate™. Failure to do so may endanger your own life as well as others.
  4. Legal Statement, Please read carefully;
    By using your Hitch-plate™, you have shown that you understand and agree that you that you are assuming full risk and responsibility for any injury or loss that you receive or cause to others while using the Hitch-Plate™, and that such injury, loss or damage  will be your responsibility, and not that of Conterra Inc, Conterra Precision Manufacturing, or it’s owners, managers, employees, agents or other participants for claims for damages which might arise from the use of the Hitch-Plate™, including negligence for which the proprietors would otherwise be responsible. You further agree to accept full responsibility for the cost of any treatment for any injury that you receive or cause others as well as any loss of wages, income, or disability that you may suffer or cause others.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

  1. Chock and block vehicle wheels. Remove keys from vehicle ignition.
  2. Remove Hitch-Plate™ from padded case and inspect for wear or damage.
  3. Insert Hitch-Plate™ into Receiver and insert Hitch pin.
  4. Insert Linchpin through hole in Hitch pin and fold over the round spring keeper to capture the Linchpin.
  5. Attach rescue system to the Hitch-Plate™. Check again that the Hitch pin and Linchpin are properly inserted and captured.
  6. Run the Rescue.
  7. After the rescue, remove the Hich-Plate™ from the receiver and inspect for damage.
  8. If wet, dry off before storing in padded case. Do not store your Hitch-Plate™ wet! If Hitch-Plate™ is soaked with salt water, spray with WD-40 and then wipe completely dry before storing.
  9. Do not store or leave your Hitch-Plate in the vehicle receiver.
  10. Never drive with the Hitch-Plate™ in the receiver.
  11. Never use the Hich-Plate™ for towing, vehicle recovery, or anything but hand operated rope rescue.
  12. We recommend that the force that the rescue system exerts on the
  13. Hitch-Plate™ be kept to 1/10th the rated strength of the device, which will help insure a 10:1 safety factor. (A good rule of thumb to use is that a single body weight exerts about 1kN of force).

DAMAGE

If your Hitch-Plate™ is impacted or shock loaded to the point that you can see deformation, dings or cracks in the device, retire and replace it.
There are no user repairable parts to this device. Do not attempt any field repairs or alteration of any kind.
If visible corrosion or deterioration is found to be present on your Hitch- Plate™, retire and replace the device.
Do not expose any part of the device to flame or high temperature as it could be damaged and fail.
