Product Information

  • The Marine Novec1230 Fire Extinguishing System by Kidde is a clean agent fire suppression system designed for high-value asset protection. It uses NovecTM 1230 fluid, which is a colourless, electrically non-conductive, and non-corrosive gas. This fluid does not damage sensitive equipment and does not leave any post-discharge residue, eliminating the need for costly clean-up operations. The system is approved for use in Category A Machinery Spaces and Cargo Pump Rooms.
  • The system is cost-effective, utilizing Kidde Fire Protection’s range of 25-bar equipment. It offers a wide range of container sizes from 5 to 368 litres, allowing users to choose the appropriate fill capacity based on their specific requirements. The containers are made from high-strength alloy steel and are compliant with TPED and DOT regulations.
  • The NovecTM 1230 fluid quickly extinguishes fires before they can cause serious damage. It reaches extinguishing concentrations in less than ten seconds and is effective on Class B (Flammable Liquid Fires). The system comprises NovecTM 1230 fluid stored in steel containers connected to distribution pipework and specially designed discharge nozzles.
  • The valves used in the system are designed for optimum performance, allowing for reduced pipe sizes and lower installation costs. They are made from tough, corrosion-resistant brass and come with a pressure monitoring gauge and optional supervisory pressure switches for easy servicing. The valves can be actuated by a manual pneumatic release station or manual pull cable.
  • All components related to the system, from discharge nozzles to control heads, are designed to be compatible, allowing for easy configuration of a complete system using DNV:GL and BV Type approved equipment.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Determine the appropriate fill capacity of the NovecTM 1230 fluid container based on your specific requirements.
  2. Connect the NovecTM 1230 fluid container to the distribution pipework using the approved valves and related components.
  3. Install the specially designed discharge nozzles in the desired locations to ensure effective fire suppression coverage.
  4. Ensure that the valves are properly actuated either by a manual pneumatic release station or a manual pull cable.
  5. Regularly monitor the pressure gauge and consider installing optional supervisory pressure switches for easy servicing.
  6. In case of a fire, activate the system to release the NovecTM 1230 fluid. The fluid will quickly reach extinguishing concentrations and suppress the fire.
  7. After the fire has been extinguished, there is no need for costly clean-up operations as there is no post-discharge residue.
  8. Regularly inspect and maintain the system to ensure its continued effectiveness in protecting high-value assets.

DESIGN

Kidde Marine Novec™ 1230 Systems are compliant with Directive 2014/90/EU of 23 July 2014 on marine equipment (MED). Systems to be designed in accordance with the requirements of SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea) and FSS Code Chapter 5. The (MDC) Minimum Design Concentration for marine applications is 5.85%.
The most common design being a modular system with containers being distributed within and around the Engine Room. The systems are pneumatically operated by Nitrogen piped from a Kidde Release Station, which is a stainless steel cabinet housing two small nitrogen bottles, two control valves and micro-switches for operation of audible and cisual warning devices.

CONTAINERS

A wide range of container sizes from 5 to 368 litres is available, offering a choice of fill capacities to meet specific requirements and ensure maximum economy in installation. Each container is manufactured from high strength alloy steel and both TED and DOT are available.Carrier-Marine-Novec-1230

CLEAN

Novec™ 1230 fluid discharges as a colourless, electrically non-conductive and non-corrosive gas that does not damage sensitive equipment. There is no post- discharge residue, no costly clean-up operations are required, and down-time is kept to a minimum.

COST-EFFECTIVE

By using its tried and trusted range of 25 bar equipment, Kidde Fire Protection can offer a cost-effective Novec™M 1230 fire suppression system

EFFICIENT

Small and large-scale tests have proven that Novec™ 1230 fluid puts fire out quickly, before they can do any serious damage. It does this by reaching extinguishing concentrations in less than ten seconds, while being effective on Class B (Flammable Liquid Fires).

SYSTEM DESIGN

The Kidde Fire Protection system comprises Novec™ 1230 fluid stored in steel containers connected to distribution pipework and specially designed discharge nozzles.
Novec™ 1230 fluid is stored as a liquid super-pressurised to 25 bar with nitrogen. This allows efficient transport and vapourisation of the Novec fluid allowing flexible system design. These systems have minimal storage space and weight requirements compared to other viable gaseous agents. The range of containers, valves and related components has been specially selected for use with Novec™ 1230 fluid and has been subjected to stringent testing procedures. Flexibility, quality and reliability make the Kidde Fire Protection range the world’s finest in fire safety Engineered systems are designed using FM Global and UL verified software and guidelines, that offer optimum designs for the defined risks with reduced pipe sizes, unbalanced flows and common room and void protection possible.

VALVES

  • Valves are designed for optimum system performance, allowing pipe sized to be reduced and installation costs to be lowered. They are manufactured from tough, corrosion-resistant brass under stringent quality control standards. A pressure monitoring gauge and optional supervisory pressure switches are provided for easy servicing. Valves are actuated by manual pneumatic release station or manual pull cable.
  • All related components from discharge nozzles to control heads are designed to be compatible, allowing a complete system to be configured using DV:GL and BV Type approved system equipment.

NOZZLES

Custom-designed nozzles are available with normal pipe sizes from 6mm to 50mm, including 180° and 360° configurations.
