- The radio, the battery, and the accessories are only protected against low risk of mechanical danger for Group I applications.
- Changing, detaching or charging of the battery is only allowed outside the hazardous area.
- Only accessories and chargers listed in the Safety Instruction, MN002135A01 shall be used.
- It is only allowed to disconnect or change accessories outside the hazardous area.
- If the charge indicator lights at the charger consistently indicate a defective battery or is deviating from those listed in the manual of the chargers, the battery is not allowed to be used in the hazardous environment anymore.
- The SD card shall only be changed outside the hazardous area.
- In the hazardous environment, use either the dust cover, 0104063J98 or one of the accessories listed in the Safety Instruction, MN002135 A01.
- Inside hazardous areas, the battery must always be connected to a radio
Warnings on battery models NNTN8570_
WARNING
- DO NOT separate the battery from the radio or charge in an explosive atmosphere.
- Read the safety leaflet (safety instruction) before use. Only use with radio approved under BVS 15 ATEX E 130 X, IECEX BVS 15.0107 X, and INMETRO CEPEL 15.2397X.
Warnings on the radios
WARNING
- Read the safety instruction before use.
- Only use NNTN8570 battery series.
- SIM door: refer to user manual (safety instruction) before SIM insertion.
- SIM door: ensure the SIM card door is present and SIM door screws are tightly fastened with correct torque.
Operational Cautions for Intrinsic Safe Equipment
Caution
- The radio units must be ordered with the intrinsic safety option and shipped from the Motorola Solutions manufacturing facility with the hazardous location certification label. Radio will not be upgraded to this capability or labeled once they have been shipped.
- DO NOT charge the batteries inside potentially hazardous atmosphere. Only charge batteries outside of hazardous atmosphere.
- DO NOT disconnect or change the batteries inside potential hazardous atmosphere. The batteries have to remain attached to the radios in hazardous atmosphere.
- DO NOT change SIM or SD cards in hazardous atmosphere. Ensure that the SIM card door is present and secured before entering a hazardous atmosphere.
- SIM card Door screws must be secured with a torque of 0.18 to 0.22 Nm or 1.6 to 2.0 lbf-In.
- Use only approved microSD devices listed in the section “Approved Accessories” on page 5. Only use mini SIM cards with physical/electrical characteristics per ISO 7816 part 1 to 3.
- Use only ATEX / IECEx / UKEx approved accessories in potentially hazardous atmosphere as listed in the section “Approved Accessories” on page 5.
- Use only INMETRO (Brazil) approved accessories in potentially hazardous atmosphere as listed in INMETRO certification.
- Check the hazardous location classification of the accessories. The system of the radio and accessory is only protected to the lowest classification of both.
- When the radio is used in a hazardous area, it is mandatory that either the protective cover 0104063J98 or an ATEX / IECEx / UKEx approved accessory is fitted at the accessory connector.
- When the radio is used in a hazardous area, it is mandatory that either the protective cover 0104063J98 or an INMETRO (Brazil) approved accessory is fitted at the accessory connector.
- Ensure that only antennas listed in the Approved Accessories section are used in the potentially hazardous atmosphere.
- Change accessories, antennas or the dust cover only outside of hazardous environment in a dust free and dry environment.
- Check that the accessory connector area is in good condition (dry and free of dust).
- Fasten the accessory connector, antenna, and dust cover tightly to the radio before entering potentially hazardous atmosphere.
- DO NOT operate radio communications equipment in potentially hazardous areas unless it is certified as intrinsically safe. This could result in unsafe condition in hazardous areas. DO NOT use the unit in hazardous areas if it has been physically damaged (for example: cracked housing, water intrusion, damaged antenna). The intrinsic safety rating will be compromised and could result in unsafe condition in hazardous areas.
- DO NOT clean the radios and batteries when used in an environment with gas exposure.
- Ensure the radios are operating as intended before entering a hazardous area.
- Failure to use a Motorola Solutions intrinsically safe battery or accessories that are specifically certified for that radio unit negates the certification rating and could result in unsafe condition in hazardous areas.
- DO NOT disassemble an intrinsically safe product in any way that exposes the internal circuits of the unit. This could result in unsafe condition in hazardous areas.
- Servicing and repair must only be performed by Motorola Solutions trained service personnel or a Motorola Solutions-authorized service organization, to ensure continued compliance of our ATEX / IECEx / UKEx certified radios.
- Servicing and repair must only be performed by Motorola Solutions trained service personnel or a Motorola Solutions-authorized service organization, to ensure continued compliance of our IN METRO (Brazil) certified radios.
- Unauthorized modification, or incorrect repair or service to the intrinsically safe product could adversely affect the certification rating and result in unsafe condition in hazardous areas.
- DO NOT add labels to the external enclosure of the radio, battery or antenna other than the approved color rings and back cover identification kit, PMHN4297A listed on the following page.
- It is not allowed to operate the radio with a missing Back cover identification kit, PMHN4297A in hazardous areas.
- Use of non-Motorola Solutions parts or substitution of parts voids the intrinsic safety approval rating of the Motorola Solutions unit and could result in unsafe condition in hazardous areas.
Equipment Maintenance
As part of the regular maintenance inspections, the equipment should be inspected for the following items which may impact the safe use of the equipment in the hazardous locations. DO NOT use the radio in hazardous areas, if any of the following conditions is observed.
Send these radios to Motorola Solutions authorized repair centers for inspection/repair, if any of the following conditions is observed:
- Modifications of the enclosure, antennas, or battery.
- The bottom label or the battery INMETRO label is damaged and the content is partly or completely unreadable.
- Stickers or additional labels on the external enclosure of the radio and the battery.
- Additional labels on the chassis and the battery cover that cover the original Motorola Solutions labels.
- The antenna isolation is damaged broken or partly missing.
- The dust cover is damaged or broken.
- The battery contact seal is damaged.
- Engraving on the radio housing, chassis, or the battery enclosure.
- Cracks or deep scratches in the lens or the radio and battery enclosure.
- Missing screws or damaged tamper labels (indicate the radios have been opened by unauthorized persons).
- Signs that the equipment had been exposed to temperatures, chemical substances, or mechanical stress exceeding the limits and specification of Motorola Solutions:
- Discoloration of the plastic parts.
- Signs of heavy corrosion on the chassis of the radios.
- Signs of deformation of the radios or battery enclosure (bent antennas are permissible as long as the plastic is still intact).
- Difficulty in screwing/unscrewing the antenna (damaged thread).
- Difficulty to latch and unlatch the battery (battery interface or latch may be damaged).
- If the radio had been exposed to oil-based liquids, inspect that no oily substances come into contact with the vent.
- For chemicals that have come into contact with the radio/battery/accessory:
- Some chemical might have a corrosive or softening effect on plastics.
- DO NOT expose any part of the radio/battery/accessory enclosure and display lens to such chemicals.
- If radio/battery/accessory has been exposed to such chemicals, they should be cleaned outside the hazardous location.
- If radio/battery/accessory has been exposed to such chemicals and show any crack/damage, then the equipment should be sent back to Motorola Solutions authorized repair centers.
- DO NOT use any non-approved casings/covers/protection bags with the radio/battery/accessory for protection against chemicals
