Safety Instructions

GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS

WARNING Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term „power tool“ in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

1. WORK AREA SAFETY
   a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
   b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
   c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2. ELECTRICAL SAFETY
   a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
   b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
   c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
   d)Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
   e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
   f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

3. PERSONAL SAFETY
   a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
   b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
   c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off- position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
   d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
   e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
   f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
   g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
   h) Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

4. POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
   a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
   b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
   c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool, if detachable, before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
   d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
   e) Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
   f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
   g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
   h) Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

5. SERVICE
   a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
   MACHINE SPECIFIC SAFETY WARNINGS FOR SANDERS
   a) Use the machine only for dry sanding. Penetration of water into the machine increases the risk of an electric shock.
   b) Pay attention that no persons are put at risk through sparking. Remove any combustible materials in the vicinity. Sparking occurs when sanding metal materials.
   c) Caution, fire hazard! Avoid overheating the object being sanded as well as the sander. Always empty the collection system before taking breaks. In unfavourable conditions, e.g., when sparks emit from sanding metals, sanding debris in the dust bag, micro filter or paper sack (or in the filter sack or filter of the vacuum cleaner) can self-ignite. Particularly when mixed with remainders of varnish, poly-urethane or other chemical materials and when the sanding debris is hot after long periods of working.
   d) When working with the machine, always hold it firmly with both hands and provide for a secure stance. The power tool is guided more secure with both hands.
   e) Secure the workpiece. A workpiece clamped with clamping devices or in a vice is held more secure than by hand.
   f) Do not touch and/or inhale harmful/ toxic dust generated during sanding. All persons in the vicinity of the work area must wear appropriate personal protective equipment for protection against harmful/toxic dusts. Use the dust extraction facility and keep the work area well ventilated.
   g) Ensure that you have removed foreign objects such as nails and screws from the workpiece before commencing sanding.
   h) Do not force sander, let the tool do the work at a reasonable speed. Overloading will occur if too much pressure is applied and the motor slows resulting in inefficient sanding and possible damage to the sander motor.
   i) Don’t continue to use worn, torn or heavily clogged sanding paper.
   j) Don’t touch the moving sanding paper.

Noise & Vibration

The declared vibration total value and the declared noise emission values have been measured in accordance with a standard test method (EN 62841) and may be used for comparing one tool with another. The declared vibration total value may also be used in a preliminary assessment of exposure

Warning! The vibration and noise emission during actual use of the power tool can differ from the declared total value depending on the ways in which the tool is used, in particular, what kind of work piece is machined.

Warning! It is necessary to identify safety measures to protect the operator that are based on an estimation of exposure in the actual conditions of use (taking account of all parts of the operating cycle such as the times when the tool is switched off and when it is running idle in addition to the trigger time).

Try to minimize the impact of vibration and noise. Exemplary measures to reduce vibration exposure include wearing gloves while using the tool, limiting working time, and using accessories in good condition.

Intended use

The tool is intended for dry sanding of wood, plastic, metal and coated surfaces. It is not suitable for plaster or drywall filler. The tool is not intended for commercial use.

Any other use or modification to the tool is considered as improper use and could cause considerable dangers.

Using the tool

1. Place the tool on the workpiece so that the entire sanding paper is in contact with it. Make sure your workpiece can not slip.
2. To switch on the tool, press the I button 3. Start working, while holding the tool firmly with both hands.
3. Move the tool slowly over the workpiece in parallel lines, circles or crosswise movements and successive passes.
4. To switch off the tool, press the 0 button 2.

Warning! Only switch on the tool when the sanding paper is in full contact with the workpiece.

DUST BOX

1. To connect the dust box 6, align the two nozzles of the adapter 5 with the two grooves inside the dust box.
   

2. Emtying the dust box 6: Turn the dust box 15° anti-clockwise and withdraw it from the tool.
   
   Caution! Never use the tool without the dust box or a vacuum cleaner attached

3. Pull up the cover 8 at its latches 7 on both sides. Empty the dust box. Click the cover back in place.
   

4. Push the dust box 6 onto the stud at the tool and turn it 15° clockwise. Instead of the dust box you may connect an appropriate vacuum cleaner to the stud.
   

SANDING PAPER

1. Remove any dust or debris from the sanding pad 4.
   
   Caution! Make sure the tool is switched off and unplugged.

2. Align the holes in the sanding paper with the ones in the sanding pad 4 and press the sanding paper into place.
   
   Choose the correct grain size from the table below: OPERATION| GRAIN SIZE

3. To remove the sanding paper carefully peel it off the sanding pad 4.
   
   **** Do not use the same sanding paper for metal and wood.

SPEED SETTING

1. Use speed dial 1 to set the operation speed.
   
   ****Caution! Make sure not to cover the ventilation slots during operation.

2. The operation speed can be set in 6 steps from:
   1 = 6000/min – MAX = 12000/min
   

Care & Maintenance

Caution! Make sure the tool is switched off and unplugged.

• Make sure the dust box 6 is empty and unclogged.
• Always keep the tool clean, dry and free of oil or grease.
• Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes whilst cleaning.
• For safe and proper working, always keep the machine and ventilation slots clean.
• Regularly check to see if any dust or foreign matter has entered the grills near the motor and around the on/off switch. Use a soft brush to remove any accumulated dust.
• If the body of the tool needs cleaning, wipe it with a soft damp cloth. A mild detergent can be used but nothing like alcohol, petrol or other cleaning agent.
• Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts.
• Lubricate all moving parts at regular intervals.
• Periodically check all fixings. These could become loose with time due to vibration.

Caution! If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent or similarly qualified person in order to avoid hazard.

Disposal

The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol requires separate disposal for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Such equipment may contain valuable, but dangerous and hazardous substances. You are required by law to return these products to a designated collection point for the recycling of WEEE and must not under any circumstances dispose of them as unsorted municipal waste. In this way, you can help to conserve resources and protect the environment.

In Germany, HORNBACH is obliged:

• To take back old appliances of the same type free of charge in HORNBACH stores when you purchase a new electrical or electronic appliance.
