Setting up SolutionBee Scales
Instruction manual

What you will need!

• SolutionBee B-Ware Smart Hive Monitor
• Scale, hive plate, quick install guide
• Android or iOS SmartPhone/Tablet
• iOS 7.1 or later
• Android 2.3.3 or later

Preliminaries

• There is no off/on a switch!!
• Long Press (e.g. > 5 seconds) to zero out the scale.
• Short Press (e.g. <5 seconds) to connect to a phone/tablet.

Step 1: Install the App!

• Go to the Google Play Store on your Android or iTunes App Store on your iPhone/iPad.
• Search for “b-ware” and install it! (free download)

Step 2: Unbox the Scale

• Be very careful… the hive plate and Smart Hive Monitor unit are NOT attached.

Step 3: Zero the Scale

• Make sure you put the hive plate on the scale BEFORE zeroing.
• Long Press (e.g. hold button > 5 seconds).
• The Orange LED will Blink once per second 5 times.

Step 4: Place Hive

• Make sure the electronics enclosure is situated to the rear of the hive so you can operate the button while standing behind the colony

Step 5: Run the App

• Run the B-ware App on your smartphone or tablet.
  

Step 6: Start Pairing

• Short press (< 5 seconds) the button the scale.
• The blue LED will begin to blink

Step 7: Discover Device

• Press the “Discover Device” button on your phone/tablet.

Step 8: Read Data

Step 9: (Android Only)

• On Android, the very first time you do this you will be prompted to grant the scale permission to pair with your phone/tablet.
• If you don’t see the popup dialog, take a look in your notification tray. (swipe down  from the top of the screen)
  

Step 10: Setup SB Account

• On Android, click the person icon in the upper left.
• Select the “I don’t have an account. Register Me!” button.
• Alternatively, you can do this via the SolutionBee website!
• Note: If you do this from a smartphone/tablet you will need Internet service!
  

• You will receive an email from SolutionBee upon successful registration with their portal.
• Click the link to complete the SolutionBee registration process.

Step 11: Login/Upload

Step 13: Opt-in to BIP!

• Make sure the checkboxes are both checked.
• Click on the save button. An email from BeeInformed will be sent to you!

• You will receive an email from Bee Informed after opting in on the SolutionBee website.
• The purpose is this email is to a) change the password on your newly created account (username is your email!).
• Verify that you are giving SolutionBee permission to send your data to BIP.

Step 13 (existing account)

• Please note that if you already have a BIP account with the email address you registered on SolutionBee, the email you receive from BIP will be slightly different!.
• Since you already have a BIP account you will only be prompted to verify that SolutionBee has permission to send your data to BIP!

Step 14: Change BIP Password

• After clicking on the link to the email you will be prompted to change your password.
• (If you have a BIP account you will be prompted to log in if you aren’t already.)

Step 15: Grant Permission

• When prompted, give permission for your data to be transmitted to BIP by clicking on YES.

• Please note: you can always enable/disable permissions in the future by clicking on Your Account in the upper right of the BIP portal, and then selecting Scale Permissions.

Step 16: Upload More Data!

• Your data will not appear on BIP until you do one more upload cycle from your device.
• Return to the hive, and read the data from the scale (e.g. repeat Step 8 above).
• Upload the data to SolutionBee (e.g. select the Upload Data option when finished reading from scale.).

Congratulations! You have Data!

• You can confirm this on the BIP portal by selecting Hives and then clicking on the hive associated with your SolutionBee scale.
• You can also see uploaded data for all your scales at the same time under Analytics.
• Moving forward as long as the “Automatic” checkbox is enabled on SolutionBee’s site, your data will be auto-forwarded to BIP each time you upload from your smartphone/tablet!
