Red Hat Enterprise Server
Installation Guide
The Extron VN-Matrix Enterprise Controller software must be installed on a computer running Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® Server v7.7 or later. This guide provides information about installing the Red Hat Linux operating system on a PC.
Minimum Requirements
To install the Extron VN-Matrix Enterprise Controller software (once the operating system is installed), the target platform must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Architecture — 64 bit
- CPU — 64-bit Xeon 3.0 GHz. A high clock rate is required for optimum performance.
- RAM — 4 GB, DDR3
- Storage system and boot location — The system boots from the local hard drive.
- Graphics resolution — XGA (1024×768)
- NIC — 1 Gbps (1000Base-T)
- Peripheral support — Support for mouse and keyboard, support for USB, and DVD drive for Red Hat installation.
Red Hat Enterprise Server Installation
Before Installation

Insert the Red Hat Enterprise Server ISO into the PC DVD drive.

Start the PC and ensure that the system boots from the DVD.

Select English (1) from the left panel and English (United States) (2) from the right panel.

Click Continue (3). The Installation Summary page opens.

Click INSTALLATION DESTINATION (1) in the SYSTEM section.

Select the correct hard disc ( 1 ).

Select Automatically configure partitioning ( 2 ).

If required, select I would like to make additional space available ( 3 ).

Click Done ( 4 ).

If prompted, reclaim space. After the space is reclaimed, the screen reverts to the INSTALLATION SUMMARY page.

Click SOFTWARE SELECTION (see figure 2, ). 2

In the Base Environment panel, select Server with GUI ( 1 ).

In the Add-Ons for Selected Environment panel ( 2 ), select FTP Server, Network File System Client, Compatibility Libraries, and Development Tools.

Click Done ( 3 ). The dialog box closes and the INSTALLATION SUMMARY window is visible again. 3 Figure 5. Installation Summary

Click Begin Installation ( 1 ).
The CONFIGURATION window opens and the installation begins. A bar ( 1 ) shows the progress.

Set Passwords

Click ROOT PASSWORD (see figure 6,) 2. The ROOT PASSWORD dialog box opens. Figure 7. Set Root Password

Set the Root Password to Extron2015 (see figure 7, 1 ).

Confirm the password ( 2 ).

Click Done ( 3 ). The dialog box closes and the Configuration window is again visible.

Click USER CREATION (see figure 6, ) 3 to create a user with a password. The CREATE USER dialog box opens. Figure 8. Create User

Set both the User name (see figure 8, 1) and Password ( 2 ) to test.

Click Done ( 3 ). If the password is short, as it is in this case, you may need to click Done twice.
The dialog box closes and the CONFIGURATION window is again visible. Figure 9. Installation Complete -
A bar at the bottom of the window shows the installation progress (see figure 9, 1). When the installation is complete, eject the DVD and click Reboot (2). The PC restarts.
Initial Setup
When the computer has rebooted, the INITIAL SETUP page is displayed. Figure 10. Initial Setup Page
- Select LICENCE INFORMATION (see figure 10,1 ). The License Agreement dialog box opens. Figure 11. License Agreement
- Check I accept the license agreement (see figure 11, 1 ).
- Click Done ( 2 ). The License Information dialog box closes and the INITIAL SETUP page is visible again. Figure 12. Finish Configuration
- Click FINISH CONFIGURATION (see figure 12, 1).
Login
- On the Login page, select Not listed.
- Enter the username root and the password Extron2015. The Welcome page opens. Figure 13. Welcome Page
- On the Welcome page, click Next (see figure 13, 1). The Typing page opens.
- On the Typing page, click Next. The Privacy page opens. Figure 14. Privacy Page
- On the Privacy page, move the Location Services slider to select Off (see figure 14, 1).
- Click Next (2). The Online Accounts page opens. Figure 15. Online Accounts Page
- Click Skip (see figure 15, 1). The Ready to Go page opens. Figure 16. Ready to Go Page
- Click Start using Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation (see figure 16, 1).
- Close the Getting Started page by clicking the X in the top right corner.
Preparing the Red Hat Server for the Enterprise Controller Software
Step 1 — Installing the FTP Server

Insert the Red Hat Enterprise Server ISO into the PC DVD drive.

Browse to the /Packages directory.

Scroll down the list of packages to find the following two files:
• TFTP-5.2-22.el7.x86_64.rpm
• TFTP-server-5.2-22.el7.x86_64.rpm -
Select and copy both files to the Desktop.

Right-click on the Desktop and, from the drop-down list, select Open Terminal to open a terminal window.

Enter cd Desktop and click Return. The active directory changes to the Desktop.

Enter rpm -ivh tftp-5.2-22.el7.x86_64.rpm and click Return.

Enter rpm -ivh tftp-server-5.2-22.el7.x86_64.rpm and click Return.

Close the terminal window and eject the DVD.
Step 2 — Configure the Firewall
- Right-click on the Desktop and, from the drop-down list, select Open Terminal to open a terminal window.
- Enter systemctl disable firewalld. service.
- Click Return.
- Close the terminal window.
Step 3 — Set the Time to UTC
NOTE: This is essential for the correct operation of the Enterprise
Controller.

Right-click on the Desktop and, from the drop-down list, select Open Terminal to open a terminal window.
-
Enter timedatectl set-timezone UTC
-
Click Return.
Verify that the timezone has been set correctly. -
Enter date.
-
Click Return. The current day, month, date, time, timezone, and year are displayed.
-
Ensure the timezone is set to UTC.
-
Enter shutdown -r now and click Return to reboot the computer.
Step 4 — Set IP Addresses
- On the log-in page, select Not Listed.
- Enter the username root and the password Extron2015
- From the top menu bar, select Applications > System Tools > Settings. The Settings page opens.
- Select Network.
- Highlight the NIC that will be used by the Enterprise Controller software and ensure the slider is set to On.
- Click the gear button (to the right of the slider) to open the port configuration page.
- Select the IPV6 tab and select Disable.
- Select the Identity tab and set the MTU to 1500.
- Select the IPV4 tab and set the IPv4 Method to Manual.
- Enter the static IP address for the Enterprise Controller, a valid subnet mask, and a valid gateway address.
- Set the DNS slider to Off.
- Set the Routes slider to Off and click Apply.
- Close the Network dialog box.
Step 5 — Disable Screen Lock
- From the top menu bar, select Applications > System Tools > Settings. The Settings page opens.
- Select Privacy. The Privacy dialog box opens.
- Select Screen Lock and set the Automatic Screen Lock option to Off.
- Close all dialog boxes.
- Right-click on the Desktop and, from the drop-down list, select Open Terminal to open a terminal window.
- Enter shutdown -r now and click Return.
Installation of the Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server is now complete. Refer to the VNM Enterprise Controller Software Setup Guide to install the VNM Enterprise Controller software.
