Operation

**Preparation**

With the application of four ultrasound sensors, the reverse drive space is almost completely monitored. The sensors must be installed evenly across the width of the vehicle.
The illustration shows the sensor range in two perspectives.

Installation

In order to install the sensors, you need a drill in order to drill the necessary holes into the bumper.
Prior to drilling, carefully mark the position of the holes.
Make sure that the sensor angle is not obstructed by vehicle parts. This would lead to malfunctioning

The ultrasound sensors must be installed evenly across the width of the vehicle.
The distance between the sensors may not exceed 30 to 40 cm.
The installation height should be in a range from 50 to 80 cm.

Drilling fastening holes

**** Observe the safety notices when drilling. Make sure that you do not damage any lines or cables in the drilling area.

Drill the holes for the four ultrasound sensors with the enclosed 21 mm drill.
After drilling, smooth the holes with a file or a sharp blade.

Inserting the ultrasound sensors

The ultrasound sensors must always be mounted horizontally, otherwise measuring will be faulty. With slanted installation sites, you can use the enclosed distancer rings (6) for compensation.
Press the sensors in the right direction into the openings until these lie flush on the bumper.

Make sure to connect the ultrasound sensors in the right sequence. Start with sensor A on the rear left (also see illustration „individual parts“).

Installing lines and components

Guide the connection cables of the ultrasound sensors from the outside through the bumper to the trunk opening. Carefully place the cables inside so that no moisture penetrates the inside of the car.

Attach the control unit with the enclosed adhesive pad. A suitable
place is the side wall in the watertight trunk close to a taillight. Make sure that the connection lines of the sensors reach up to the sensor units.
Install the connection cables of the sensors in line with the connection diagram in “Individual parts”.

When installing the cables in the sides of the car etc., make sure that you do not damage any safety-relevant equipment (e.g. side airbags).

Connection

After installation of all components, you have to connect the display cables and the voltage supply.
Connect all cables as depicted in the connection scheme in “Individual part names”. The plugs only fit in the socket with the correct polarity.

  • Connect the plug of the connection cables (3) with the socket “DISP” on the control unit (1).
  • Connect the four plugs of the ultrasound sensors (A to D) in the right sequence with the sockets “A,B,C,D” of the control unit (1). Make sure that the letters on the cables and sockets are in the right

After you have made almost all connections, you have to connect the voltage supply.
As the parking aid only works when the reverse gear is shifted, it is supplied by the taillights.
Measure the correct cable with a voltmeter or a diode test lamp when the reverse gear is set and the ignition is on. The lights and the blinkers should be off. If you were able to determine the right cable, turn the ignition off again.
Connect the red plus cable (4) with the voltage supply cable of the headlight. Make sure that the contact place is permanently insulated (e.g. insulated clamps, tape, etc.).
With an optional cable cutting connector, you can easily establish safe contact without severing the light cable.
For this purpose, place the cable cutting connector around the voltage cable of the headlight and additionally the red conductor of the connection cable (4) into the con- nector. Use pliers to press the contact point onto the cables.
Connect the black strand of cable (4) with the ground on the chassis.
Connect the small white plug of the power supply cable with the socket “PWR” of the control
unit (1).Turn the vehicle electronics back on and put the gear into reverse while the ignition is on. The parking aid turns on automatically and is now ready for use.

Initial operation

On the side of the loudspeaker (3) is a slider, which serves to turn the signal off or set it at two volume stages (Lo = normal volume, Hi = loud).
With correct installation, the parking system turns on automatically when putting the gear to reverse.
With the acoustic system, an acknowledgement beep sounds for approx. 1 second. Test the system prior to first use to familiarize yourself with the buzzers and signals. Ask a second person to simulate the „obstacle“ behind your car.
To do so, switch on the ignition (on-board voltage supply) and then put the car into reverse. Ask the second person to slowly advance to the car from approx. 1.4 m distance.
The distance to an obstacle is also signalled with increasing intensity of the signal (large dis- tance = slow beep, smaller distance = faster beep until it sounds permanently). The acoustic signal is identical with both parking aids. The following ranges must be observed:
Safe range from 140 – 100 cm. Warning range from 90 to 50 cm.
Dangerous range from 40 – 0 cm (<30 cm permanent beep).
In certain situations, the ultrasound measuring principle is not reliable.
This may be the case on slight slopes, rounded or soft objects, which absorb the ultrasound waves.

Reverse sensor head products

Observe the following hints when painting over reverse sensor heads.

Painting of Reverse Sensor Heads

Caution! Please note that extreme care should be taken if you decide to paint the

reverse sensor heads to match the colour of your vehicle.

  • Some cleaning agents, solvents and certain paints may damage the heads and cause the reverse sensors to malfunction. Also, placing too much paint on the reverse sensor heads may affect
  • Failure to adhere to the following recommendations may affect the function of your system or stop it functioning
  • The manufacturer and supplier will not be held responsible for any correction, replacement or damage

The following is our recommended painting procedure:

  1. Do not use strong solvents for cleaning the
  2. Use a Flexi-Plastic Primer – one coat
  3. For colour, use an Acrylic with Flex additive – maximum of 2
  4. If required, use a Clear Acrylic final coat – single coat

Troubleshooting

In purchasing this parking aid, you have acquired a product which has been designed with state- of-theart technology and is operationally reliable.

Nevertheless, problems or faults may occur.

For this reason, the following is a description of how you can eliminate possible malfunctions yourself.

Always adhere to the safety instructions.

Error Possible cause Solution

The parking aid does not switch on.

| The reverse gear is not engaged.| Engage the reverse gear
No ignition voltage.| Switch the ignition on.
Wrong cabling. The fuse is defect.| Check the plug connections and the flat fuse of the voltage supply.
The lateral slider is in the “OFF” position.| Put the slider on “ON, Lo or Hi”.

Repairs other than those described should only be carried out by an authorised

specialist.

It is forbidden to dispose of it in the domestic waste!

Care and Cleaning

Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents, rubbing alcohol or other chemical solutions as they can cause damage to the housing and malfunctioning.

  • Disconnect the product from the mains before each
  • Clean the outer sensors regularly to avoid Clean the display with a clean, damp and lint-free cloth without abrasive of chemical cleaners.

Disposal

This symbol must appear on any electrical and electronic equipment placed on the EU market. This symbol indicates that this device should not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste at the end of its service life.
Owners of WEEE (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) shall dispose of it separately from unsorted municipal waste. Spent batteries and accumulators, which are not enclosed by the WEEE, as well as lamps that can be removed from the WEEE in a non-destructive manner, must be removed by end users from the WEEE in a non-destructive manner before it is handed over to a collection point.
Distributors of electrical and electronic equipment are legally obliged to provide free take-back of waste. Conrad provides the following return options free of charge (more details on our website):

  • in our Conrad offices
  • at the Conrad collection points
  • at the collection points of public waste management authorities or the collection points set up by manufacturers or distributors within the meaning of the ElektroG

End users are responsible for deleting personal data from the WEEE to be disposed of.
It should be noted that different obligations about the return or recycling of WEEE may apply in countries outside of Germany.
