SOLERA SL-SAL-30W-G1 Solar Area Light
The SL-SAL-30W-G1 Solar Area Light is a high-quality and energy-efficient outdoor lighting solution. It is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -40F to 140F and features a battery charge temperature of -4F to 140F. The light is not suitable for use in environments where explosive or corrosive gases are present and should not be used for emergency lighting.
Installation Requirements
The SL-SAL-30W-G1 Solar Area Light requires a qualified professional to install it. The installer is responsible for ensuring safe installation, proper maintenance, and safety checks. The light should be installed on a 2 3/8 inch tenon, and the pole or structure should be able to support the weight of 30 lbs and EPA of 4.45. For hybrid operation, 120-277VAC, 50/60Hz is required (for SL-SAL-HYB only). The maximum power draw is 0.4A.
Pre-Installation Instructions
Before installation, confirm that the contents of the package are complete. Select a site that gets direct sunlight and is not blocked by trees, buildings, or structures. Ensure that no light sources will shine on the solar panel during the night-time hours.
Installation Instructions
To install the light, carefully remove it from the packaging, taking care not to damage the solar panel. Never disassemble or modify the fixture in any way. The SL-SAL-30W-G1 Solar Area Light is programmable with a remote control that has two-way communication with the light. There is a short delay before the remote confirms communication with a smiley face in the top right corner. The sad face indicates that communication did not go both ways. The 30W and 50W lights have different LED current settings (Parameter L). Do not use a remote for a 30W light with a 50W light or vice versa. This could cause shorter battery life on the 30W light, or lower light output on the 50W light. If the remote is locked (lock icon in top left corner of display), holding down the – key and the Sleep key for about 3 seconds will unlock the remote. The remote signal may be affected by strong sunlight. If the remote is not connecting to the light, try shading the remote from the sun, getting closer to the sensor window, and ensuring that the remote is pointing straight to the sensor window.

Increasing the SAL LED Dwell time after motion is detected will cause the light to turn on earlier. The SL-SAL Smart Power should not be turned on, and battery charging below 0 degrees C is not recommended. The battery charging method and battery over-discharge voltage and return voltage are pre-set. The switch to grid power function is disabled.

PRE- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Pre-Installation Notes:
- Confirm contents listed above.
- Select a site that gets direct sunlight and is not blocked by trees, buildings, structures etc.
- Confirm that no light sources will shine on the solar panel during the night-time hours. The solar panel functions like a photo-cell. If there is light on the solar panel, the LED lights will not come on.
- The light needs 1-2 days to get on the proper charge/discharge cycle. Do not expect the best performance the first nights that the light is in operation.
- Confirm that the pole is strong enough to support EPA 4.45 SF, and a weight of 30 lbs. If any extreme, or abnormal conditions exist, please take these into account.
- Review Solar Best Practice Guidelines on the Solera-Solar.com web site under Marketing Materials.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Installation:
- Carefully remove light from packaging. Be careful not to damage the solar panel. Never place the solar panel or an uneven or rocky surface. Place it on a flat surface with a towel, blanket or other type of soft material for protection.
- Remove any protective film or coverings from the light and sensor housing. When handling the light, do not apply pressure or weight to the sensor housing.
- Pre-test the light by connecting the solar panel to the light fixture. Ensure that the 4 pin connectors are properly oriented as shown in the picture.
- With the solar panel exposed to light, the red LED in the sensor window should be either on solid either on or blinking.
- Cover or place the solar panel face down. The LED panel should turn on in about 1 minute.
- Uncover or invert the solar panel so that it is receiving light. The light should turn off in about 1 minute. Disconnect the 4-pin connector.
- Install the Base Bracket on the solar panel using the supplied bolts and lock washers as shown in picture on the right. Ensure that the panel cable is fit through the bracket and does not get pinched during the installation.
- Install the Main Bracket to the top of the light using 3 bolts with lock washers as shown in the picture.
- Pre-adjust the angle of the Main bracket so that the solar panel will be facing South when the light is installed.
- Adjust the slip fitter to the desired angle by loosening the 2 bolts. It may be necessary to remove the bolts to allow further movement of the slip fitter. There are multiple holes for mounting to allow further adjustment.
- Loosen the 4 locking screws on the sides of the slip fitter so that it is ready to be installed on the tenon.
- Attach the solar panel base bracket to the main bracket using 2 long bolts and re-connect the 4-pin connector and ensure that that it is securely tightened.
- The light is now ready for installation.
- Prior to installation, ensure that the light is programmed following the instructions on the next page. For multiple light installation, the program only needs to be set up on 1 remote control. Each light can be programmed by pressing the “send” button. Do not press other buttons, such as State or Param, as this may over-write the settings.
- For the hybrid, the electrical connection will need to be made as the light is installed. Confirm that the power meets the requirement of 120-277 VAC, 50/60 HZ with appropriate surge protection in place. Prior to installation, ensure that the power is shut off and locked out. Ensure that all regulations and codes are met.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS – Programming
- Program the Light and Confirm Parameter selection. Place the assembled light on its side so that the remote can be pointed at the sensor window. Use the + and – buttons and set button to adjust parameters. When all parameters are entered, point the remote at the light and press “Send” to transmit settings to the light.
- The remote control has 2-way communication with the light. There is a short delay before the remote confirms communication with a smiley face in the top right corner. The sad face indicates that communication did not go both ways.
- The remote control is not paired to the light. It will work with any –G1 light. The remote can re-program the light, so it is important to identify and ensure that the proper remote is used for programming.
- The 30W and 50W lights have different LED Current settings (Parameter L). Do not use a remote for a 30W light with a 50W light or vice versa. This could cause shorter battery life on the 30W light, or lower light output on the 50W light.
- If the remote is locked (lock icon in top left corner of display, see picture on right) then holding down the “-” key and the “Sleep” key for about 3 seconds will unlock the remote.
- The remote signal may be affected by strong sunlight. If the remote is not connecting to the light, try shading the remote from the sun, getting closer to the sensor window, also ensure that the remote is pointing straight to the sensor window.
