Setup
The Clearaudio smart synchro Power Generator combines two units in one housing:
- Distortion free AC power with constant line voltage 230V~ or 115V~
- Constant frequency generator variable between e.g. 47 to 89Hz
On the front panel (left button), you will notice a switch botton marked with 33rpm and 45rpm. While channel 1 can be set to a fixed working frequency of 50Hz (33rpm), channel 2 can be set to higher frequencies e.g. 67,5Hz ( 45rpm).
The actual working frequency can be switched any time during operation between 50Hz and any 67,5Hz or other frequency. It is recommended to start in 33 1/3 switch position and than switch to 45rpm.
Note: The Clearaudio smart synchro was designed for a maximum peak power of 3 watts.
DO NOT use units requiring more than 3 watts.
The Clearaudio smart synchro unit was designed to be placed under Clearaudio turntables models like Emotion, Emotion SE, Performance and Performance SE with synchronous motor:
Phono stages are devices designed to provide a very high level of amplification. This is necessary because the electrical signal generated by a phono cartridge is extremely low (usually less than one thousandth of a volt). The job of the phonostage is therefore to accurately equalise the phono signal and boost it to line level (measured in volts).
However, phono stages are by nature extremely sensitive, which leads to the
potential problem that
high-frequency interference may also be amplified to a point at which it
becomes noticeable.
Unfortunately it is not possible to completely protect the sensitive phono stage circuitry from this interference without degrading its high fidelity performance. Therefore care must be taken to position the phonostage away from sources of high frequency interference such as mobile phones, modems and powerline communication systems (PLC) in which data is sent over the mains power network.
On the front panel of the Clearaudio smart synchro you will find on the right side the button “ON / OFF”.
Please make sure, that the button is in the “OFF” position before installing the power supply unit
-
First connect the electrical connection with the smart synchro (on the backside) and your turntable.
-
Now take the power supply unit and insert the country-specific adapter together with the power supply. After that you can connect the smart synchro (on the backside: DC IN) with the mains supply.
-
If the blue LED light up (in the middle of the front panel) the smart synchro is now ready for operating.
-
The left button on the front panel changes the speed between 33 1/3rpm and 45rpm. From the factory the frequency is pre-setted: For channel 1 (33 1/3rpm) = 60Hz For channel 2 (45rpm) = 81Hz
-
The Clearaudio smart synchro allows you also to set and maintain an exact speed by using the delivered screw driver. For this fine adjustment you have to turn the integrated potentiometer screws in the middle of the front panel (left for 33 1/3rpm and right for 45rpm).
-
We recommend to have enough lightness for this adjustment. Insert the screw driver into the small pre-drilled fitting in the middle of the front panel (left side for 33 1/3rpm and right side 45rpm) until you feel a variable resistance. Turn slowly and carefully the integrated potentiometer screw until you have the correct speed adjustment: Clockwise = frequency rises up Counter-clockwise = frequency falls
-
For this fine adjustment of the correct speed Clearaudio recommends the Clearaudio Stroboscope Test Record (AC038) and the Clearaudio 300 Hz Speed light (Set with record: AC076), available
under: www.analogshop.de !
Attention:
If the smart synchro is not in use for an extended period, switch it off at
the ON/OFF bottom.
Clearaudio wishes you a lot of pleasure with your new power generator smart synchro!
Troubleshooting
If you have a problem with your smart synchro, first check the possible causes
to rule out incorrect
operation.
If the error persists, please contact your dealer!
Never try to open the device and/or repair it yourself, this will void the warranty!
