JoJo Rainwater Harvesting system
Product Information
Rainwater Harvesting System from JoJo
JoJo offers an easy-to-install rainwater harvesting system that can help you make the most of the rainy season. The system comes with a range of components, including tanks, gutters, pipes, pre-filtration options, pumps, and filters. You can choose from a variety of tank shapes and sizes to suit your specific requirements. The system can be used for low-grade applications such as gardening, flushing the toilet, washing the car or paving, as well as for full domestic water supply including consumption.
Requirements for Different Applications
The requirements for the rainwater harvesting system will depend on your setup and desired application. For low-grade uses, you will need a tank, gutters and pipes, pre-filtration options such as a mozzie screen, and a pump with a pump cover and pump-to-tank connector kit. For full domestic water supply, you will need all of the above components as well as a whole-house filter.
Components in Detail
The components of the rainwater harvesting system include:
-
Water storage tank: JoJo tanks come in a wide range of shapes and sizes to suit your needs. Choose the right tank based on the rainfall in your area, your roof size, and the intended use of the harvested water.
-
Base/Foundation: It is important to install the tank on a sound, level and smooth surface. Level paving will suffice, alternatively a concrete slab needs to be built with a concrete surface bed of at least 85mm thick and 100mm wider than the base of the tank.
-
Pre-filtration options: Pre-filtration improves the quality of harvested rainwater and protects the pump. Some options include a tank mozzie screen and standard plumbing pipes in different sizes and lengths.
-
Pump and pump cover: Choose a water pump based on the water
source, application, and required pressure. A pump cover can
protect the pump from the elements and prolong its lifespan. -
Pump-to-tank connector kit: This kit allows seamless connection from a JoJo tank to any of our 0.37kW and 0.75kW booster pumps.
-
Whole-house filter: For full domestic supply, install a filter that removes sediment, particulates, and contaminants such as bacteria and other harmful substances. The Whole-house Disruptor water filter from JoJo can ensure safe, clean and great-tasting water.

What do you need
The basic requirements will depend on your setup and desired application.

Full domestic water supply including consumption.
From tank to filtration: the required components in a nutshell
Water storage tank
- When deciding on the right tank for you, consider the rainfall in your area, your roof size, and what the harvested water will be used for.
JoJo tanks come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, so you’re guaranteed to find the perfect tank for your unique requirements.
Base/Foundation
- It’s very important that the tank is installed on a sound, level, and smooth surface. Level paving will suffice, alternatively, a concrete slab needs to be built with a concrete surface bed of at least 85mm thick and 100mm wider than the base of the tank.
Pre-filtration
-
Pre-filtration improves the quality of the harvested rainwater and protects the pump. Bear in mind that the more pre-filtration options you install, the cleaner the water will be that enters your tank. Some options include:
-
Rainhead – Directs leaves and debris away from the flow of the harvested rainwater.
-
First-flush Rainwater Diverter – Flushes away the initial, most contaminated flow of rainwater and directs clean water to your tank.
Note: a Tank Filter Screen can also be fitted beneath the tank lid to keep out larger debris. It will however require you to clean it as debris builds up on top of the screen. -
Tank Mozzie Screen
-
This screen is fitted to the outside of your overflow or the inside/ outside of your tank inlet. It allows water to pass through while blocking entry for mosquitoes and other insects.
-
Pipes (standard plumbing pipes in 110mm, 80mm or 75mm)
-
Sizes and lengths will vary depending on installation and preference.
-
From beneath the Rainhead to the top of the First Flush
-
Diverter T-junction (110, 80 or 75mm)
-
For the First Flush Diverter chamber (110mm is advised for this section)
-
From the side of the First Flush Diverter T-junction to the elbow (110, 80 or 75mm)
-
From the elbow through the lid into the tank (110, 80 or 75mm)
Elbow/s
- Again, the required quantity and sizes will vary based on the chosen pipe sizes and setup.
Pump and Pump Cover
- When choosing a water pump, it is important to consider the water source, the application and the pressure required to ensure that the pump will meet your needs.
- To protect your pump from the elements and to prolong its lifespan, we recommend using a pump cover. Our pump covers are available in a range of colors to ensure a perfect match for your tank or home.
Pump-to-tank Connector Kit
- This all-inclusive kit permits seamless connection from a JoJo tank to any of our 0.37kW and 0.75kW booster pumps.
Whole-house Filter
- When filtering rainwater for full domestic supply you will require a filter that removes sediment, particulates and contaminants such as bacteria and other potentially harmful substances. We recommend installing our Whole-house Disruptor water filter to ensure safe, clean and great-tasting water.
