Outstanding Features of 8×50 FMTR-D/N
The 8×50 FMTR-D/N can distinguish an observation object in a dark place not easily visible by the naked eye by exchanging the eyepiece lenses with night use lenses in which an Image Intensifier Tube (1.1. Tube: An element that amplifies a weak light tens of thousands times electrically) is built in.
- Use day use eyepiece lenses in a bright place.
Since the main body is of a waterproof structure, it can be used also aboard vessels or under bad weather.

How to Operate
Battery installation
- Remove each left and right battery case cap by rotating it counterclockwise.
- Install each lithium battery (type CR123A) by checking the plus (+) and minus (-) polarity.
- After the batteries are installed correctly, firmly restore the battery case caps by rotat-ing them clockwise.
Facts about the batteries
- The lithium batteries (type CR123A) can be used approximately 50 hours if used continuously. (The service life varies depending on using conditions.)
- When changing the batteries, be sure not to let any water get into the battery compartments.
- The power source section is separated into left and right compartments and one lithium bat-tery (type CR123A) is used for each compartment.
- The service life of each battery – left and right – is not necessarily the same and only the dead battery may be replaced.
How to exchange eyepiece lenses
- Stand the main body of the binoculars so that the eyepiece lens side is up.
- Fully rotate the mounting ring counterclock-wise and slowly pull up the day use eyepiece lenses directly upward.
- Match the index mark of a night use eyepiece lens to be exchanged to that of the mount-ing ring and slowly insert the eyepiece lens straight into the bore. Make sure that the positioning pin of the mount has engaged in the notch of the eye-piece lens.
- Push in the eyepiece lens firmly and fix the mounting ring securely by rotating it clock-wise.
CAUTION! Be careful not to let any water get inside the binoculars.
Night use I.I. tube switch
The I.I. tube switch can be switched over in 3 modes, i.e., BAT, ON and OFF.
BAT The remaining capacity of a battery
can be checked. Check the LED lamps.
- Green: Normal
- Green + Red: Capacity is low. (Prepare spare batteries.)
- Red: Insufficient capacity (The I.I. tube will stop operating.)
- Does not light up: Zero capacity (Battery is dead.)
ON
Set the switch to the “ON” position when using night use eyepiece
lenses.
The I.I. tube lights up. No LED lamp lights up.
- Be sure to perform this operation with the objec-tive lens caps on, or in a dark place.
OFF
Set the switch to the “OFF” position when night use eyepiece lenses are not in use.
The I.I. tube does not light up.
No LED lamp lights up. - In order to conserve the battery life, turn the switch to the “OFF” position.
Night Use Eyepiece Lenses: Cautions
- Never turn on the eyepieces in well-lit locations during the day.
- Do not keep the binoculars trained on a single area of a bright light source for long periods. Failure to observe this precaution could cause the I.I. tubes to suffer “burn-in”. Particular caution is advised in otherwise dark environments when viewing areas in the vicinity of street lamps, car headlights, or other bright light sources, when you should periodically make slight changes to the field of view to check for image “burn-in” (note, however, that to date we have received no reports of cases in which “burn-in” has occurred in actual use as the result of training the binoculars on point light sources for a few minutes at a time).
Adjusting interpupillary distance
-
What is interpupillary distance adjustment?
The distance between the eyes varies by individual. The interpupillary distance can be adjusted to your individual distance between the eyes so that you can use the binoculars in the optimal state at any time.- Apply your eyes lightly to the horn-shaped rubber eyecups and look in at the visual field.
- You may see that the visual fields are over-lapped. Move the main body on either side until they become one complete circle.
Mounting/dismounting of the horn-shaped rubber eyecups
When using the binoculars with glasses (or goggles) on, remove the horn-shaped
rubber eyecups.
Focusing day use eyepiece lenses
- If a person’s eyes have normal eyesight, a dis-tant object can be observed clearly by only matching both the diopter ring graduations on the left and right eyepiece sections to zero without further adjustment.
- For a person with one or both eyes that are farsighted or nearsighted, adjust the focus by rotating the respective left and right di-opter rings so that a distant object can be observed clearly.
- Adjust the focus by rotating respective left and right diopter rings according to the dis-tance of the observation object.
Focusing night use eyepiece lenses
-
Turn the I.I. tube switch “ON”. (Be sure to carry out this operation in a dark place.)
CAUTION!
When the I.I. tube switches are turned “ON”, the I.I. tubes that are built in the respective night use eyepiece lenses emit light.
Careful attention must be paid because the I.I. tube may be damaged if you carry out this operation in a bright environment. -
Turn each diopter ring slowly so that the screen of the tube can be seen most clearly.
-
Next, turn the focusing ring to obtain more precise focusing. Perform these operations for respective left and right eyepiece lenses.
-
When the distance to the target is changed, readjust the focus by only rotating the focus-ing rings.
Installing the neckstrap
- Remove one side of the two belts that pass through the neckstrap buckle. After letting it pass through the neckstrap mounting ring, let it pass through the buckle again as before.
- In the same manner, let the other belt pass through the neckstrap mounting ring on the opposite side.
Maintenance
Lenses
Dirt and/or fingerprints on the lens surfaces will worsen visible performance
significantly. If a lens surface should burn, the trace of the burn may become
impossible to remove even if you try to repair it at a later date. Wipe the
dirt off with off-the-shelf lens paper and cleaning solvent.
Body
Wipe the whole body with soft cloth. When wiping, dampen the cloth if
necessary. If moisture remains on the surface, dry it completely before
storing.
CAUTION!
Never turn on the power source of the I.|. tubes in a bright place during
daytime.
If you observe the same place illuminated by a strong light source for a long
period of time, the tubes will be burnt and it will cause a functional
failure.
After-sales Service
- If repairs are needed, ask the dealer where you purchased the binoculars.
- Binoculars will be repaired free of charge for one year after the date of purchase. However, please understand that the above policy will not be applied if the malfunction is caused by mishandling by the customer.
- Inprinciple, the cost of repair is charged to the customer after the term of warranty has expired. In addition, the cost of transportation and other expenses shall be borne by the customer.
- Spare parts for the binoculars will be available for a period of 7 years after production of the affected model is discontinued. Furthermore, there may be occasions after this period when repairs are possible, so be sure to contact our Sales Group (Sales Representative) for details.
