HEXATRONIC Discreet Cabling System Revision: 1

INTRODUCTION

The Heatronic discreet MDU cabling solution has been specifically designed for use in MDUs where building owners and residents desire an unobtrusive cable installation.
Pre-tailed closures available for P2P or P2MP networks are installed in risers at each floor and the tails routed down to a basement location where the tails are joined to the incoming feed cable. Ris er boxes can be supplied with an optional wall bracket to store excess cable length and allow the box to be easily removed from the riser cupboard and into a more suitable working space.
The Heatronic discreet corridor drop cable, supplied as 2 or 3mm raw cable or pre-terminated on a cardboard spool, runs from the riser boxes and down the corridor to connect up to 24 dwellings with a single cable. Available in G657 A2 or G657B3 bend-insensitive fiber, the cable can be run around tight corners in corridors and doorframes.
Utilizing the clear plastic corner radius protectors maintains the minimum bend radius, whilst mini missing the visual impact. Specially designed fire clips and an optional cable adhesive keep the ca ble tight to the ceiling and maintain the discreet look whilst adhering to strict fire safety regulations.
The subscriber wall-box has been designed to allow installation high up, flush to the ceiling, to help keep the install as unobtrusive as possible. When used with the corridor drop cable, the wall-box provides a location outside the dwelling to coil a loop of cable, drop off one fibre, and splice onto a pigtail ready for customer connections.

COMPONENTS

PREPARATION

1.1. First, go down the corridor where the cable is to be installed and mark chosen locations for the subscriber wall-boxes. Choose a cable long enough for the designated route plus 2-4m per wall-box
1.2. Drill 3.5mm holes at 45° directly into the corner every 30cm along designated route. Drill 2 holes 160mm apart for a clip before and after each subscriber wall-box
1.3. Clean up debris from drilling and clean any contaminants from cable route.
1.4. Insert cable clips into every hole ready to accept cable.
1.5. Apply internal and external bend radius protectors where needed along designated route.

Apply internal radius protectors where needed along route.| Apply external radius protectors where needed along route.

  • A 3.5mm hole is suitable for plasterboard. 4mm may be required for wood or masonry.

CABLE INSTALLATION

2.1. Apply 2mm wide bead of adhesive along designated route. Adhesive will be ready for the cable after approximately 10 minutes.
2.2. Starting at cable entry point using a gloved finger, gently press cable into the adhesive. Have a damp cloth ready to clear up any excess adhesive.
2.3. Press cable gently into each bend radius protector.
2.4. Hook cable through each cable clip and push fully into hole until cable is flush to wall.
2.5. At every wall box location leave a loop of cable hanging between the cable clips. A maximum of 2m can be stored without removing the cable jacket.

Apply thin bead of glue to clean surface.| Press cable into radius protectors.
---|---
Hook cable into each clip and press into wall using insertion tool.| Leave a 2m minimum loop of cable in between the clips for each subscriber

WALL-BOX INSTALLATION

3.1. Feed cable loop through gap at the top of the wall-box and mount using screws kit provided or double sided tape. Remove pigtail and adaptor if drilling to prevent any debris entering adaptor.
3.2. Mark cable jacket as shown and using cable slitter the slit jacket between these points.
3.3. Use scissors to remove cable jacket and aramid yarn.
3.4. Identify fibre required for splicing and cut at out-going end of loop.
