SCAN FOR ASSEMBLY AND HOW TO USE INSTRUCTIONS
Thank you for purchasing the WEBER Flame iQ Accessory for your WEBER Baby Q. Take a few minutes to read the manual.
Congratulations on the purchase of your WEBER Flame iQ with patented
technology.
The Flame iQ requires a 12 V or 240 V power supply. The Flame iQ comes with a
2.4 metre 12 V power cable and a 1 metre 240/12 V power cable. This electrical
connection provides the Flame iQ with the ability to continually sense for a
flame.
WHAT IS THE WEBER Flame iQ?
The Flame iQ is a type of flame safeguard device, with added features and
benefits.
A flame safeguard device is designed to stop the flow of gas to an appliance
in the case that the gas flame goes out – for example, if the flame is blown
out in windy conditions.
The Flame iQ has the added functionality of continuously sensing for a flame.
It will attempt to reignite the burner in the event of a ‘flame out’ (up to 3
attempts), before shutting off the gas and going into a lockout mode. If the
burner reignites, the Flame iQ will reset for another 3 attempts.
HOW DOES THE WEBER Flame IQ WORK?
The Flame iQ features a sensing probe, situated on the burner. If the probe
senses a ‘flame out’, it sends a signal to the Flame iQ, which then attempts
to reignite the burner, up to 3 times at 5 second intervals.
If the burner is not reignited by the third relighting attempt, it will shut
off the gas to the burner and go into lockout mode. This is shown on the Flame
iQ when the reset light is illuminated (refer to lighting instructions on page
7).
If the burner is successfully reignited on the first, second or third attempt,
the Flame iQ resets itself (and will attempt 3 reignitions if the probe again
senses a ‘flame out’).
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS OF USING THE WEBER Flame iQ WITH YOUR WEBER Baby Q
- The Flame iQ meets the requirements of the Australian & New Zealand Standard for Outdoor Gas Appliances for barbecues connected to the piping on a caravan or boat. Once your Baby Q is fitted with a Flame iQ, it can be connected to the plumbed gas supply of a boat or caravan.
- Should the flame in your Baby Q blow out due to strong winds, the Flame iQ will sense a ‘flame out’ and attempt to re-ignite the burner. This will be seamless and happen continuously whenever the flame is blown out (if the burner is reignited within 3 attempts at each ‘flame out’). Your food will still be cooked through perfectly.
- When the Flame iQ is turned on, it runs a self-check to ensure that there is no flame present on the burner. If there is a flame present the Flame iQ will go into reset mode. This ensures that the Flame iQ is in the correct safe start position with no gas flowing through the Flame iQ.
- Easy-to-see indicator lights on the Flame iQ control panel mean you don’t have to lift the lid of your barbecue to see if it’s alight.
- The lights indicate:
- a) Green light illuminated – Flame iQ is ready to operate.
- b) Blue light illuminated – flame detected at burner.
- c) Blue light off – flame out detected and reignition being attempted.
- d) Red light illuminated – lockout mode due to unsuccessful reignition.
- A pre-set maximum run time of 8 hours is built into the Flame iQ, meaning that if you forget to turn your Baby Q off after use, it will automatically cut the gas supply to the barbecue after 8 hours of continuous run time.
This instruction manual contains important information necessary for the proper assembly and safe use of the Weber Flame iQ. Read and follow all warnings and instructions before fitting and using the Flame iQ accessory. Keep this manual for future reference. Carefully follow all leak-check procedures in this Owner’s Guide. Do not use the Flame iQ without first reading the burner ignition sections in this manual.

INSTRUCTIONS APPLICABLE TO MODELS Q1000, Q1200
- Prior to commencement of fitting the Flame iQ to your barbecue, ensure the barbecue is clean of any cooking debris (existing barbecue). If recently used, ensure the barbecue has cooled before attempting to fit the Flame iQ.
- Ensure the gas cylinder is not connected to the barbecue. If connected, disconnect the hose/regulator assembly from the LPG cylinder.
- Disconnect the hose and regulator assembly from the barbecue. Using the supplied 5/8” and 3/4” spanners, unscrew the hose fitting from the manifold inlet fitting. Be careful not to damage the connections.
- Remove the barbecue lid by removing the hinge pins and clips.
- Remove the barbecue grills to enable access to the burner.
- Remove the hose guide/retaining ring from the rear frame leg. Lay the barbecue on it’s back for ease of access and remove the mounting screws using the supplied 1/4” spanner. Be careful to retain the screws as these are required to remount the Flame iQ. The hose guide/retaining ring is not reused and can be recycled.
-
Mount the Flame iQ attachment bracket in position, using the supplied 1/4” spanner. Use the screws and mounting points previously used for the hose guide/retaining ring.
-
Sit the barbecue back on its feet. Remove the screw securing the burner using a flat head screwdriver. Rotate the burner tube towards you into a vertical position and slide to the left to disengage from the manifold/valve.
-
Place the Flame iQ underneath the handle and behind the manifold/valve (ensure the Flame iQ is on the outside of the attachment bracket). Loosely connect by hand tightening the outlet gas connection on the Flame iQ to the manifold inlet fitting. Do not over-tighten.
-
Secure the Flame iQ to the attachment bracket with the 2 screws using a phillips head screwdriver.
-
Feed the sensor probe through the burner clearance hole in the side of the barbecue cook box. Pass the sensor front legs through first, then swing the sensor through the clearance hole
-
Reinstall the burner to where it is in a vertical position, but not attached to the manifold/valve.
-
Clip the sensor probe into position on the burner. Ensure the sensor probe clips into position on the burner by hooking under the front leg over the flat section of the burner tube (1) and then push the back legs down onto the burner tube (2).
-
Slide the burner tube to the right over the manifold/valve ensuring that the wires are not pinched or twisted around the burner tube. Rotate the burner tube back to a horizontal plane ensuring it is locked onto the manifold/valve and refit the burner tube with securing screw.
- Screw the hose and regulator assembly to the inlet of the Flame iQ using the 3/4” spanners. Ensure you only tighten the nut on the hose. Do not tighten the nut on the Flame iQ housing. Reconnect the gas cylinder.
- Using the 5/8” and 3/4” spanners provided, tighten the outlet gas connection on the Flame iQ to the manifold/valve inlet fitting (previously finger tightened in step 9).
- Open the power supply weather cover.
Connect the power cable.
WARNING: needs to be plugged into a 12 V or 240 V power supply.
- Place the ‘Flame safeguard fitted’ label on the data label to be found on the back leg of the barbecue. Do not obscure the serial number.
- Conduct a leak check of all gas fittings, including with the Flame iQ powered up and activated (on – green light illuminated) but barbecue gas control knob off. Refer to page 6 to perform a leak test.
- If no leaks are detected, refer to Flame iQ operating instructions and check functionality of Flame iQ.
- After checking operation, refit cooking grills and lid. Your barbecue is now ready to use, incorporating the Flame iQ.
PREPARING TO USE YOUR Flame iQ
WHAT IS A LEAK CHECK?
The fuel system in your WEBER barbecue fitted with Flame iQ features
connections and fittings. A leak check is a reliable way to make sure that no
gas is escaping from any of the connections or fittings.
Although all factory-made connections have been thoroughly checked for gas
leaks, it’s important to perform a leak check before using your Flame iQ for
the first time, as well as anytime you disconnect and reconnect a fitting and
each time you perform routine maintenance.
Sparks or open flames will result in a fire or explosion, which can cause serious bodily injury or death and damage to property.
- WARNING: The gas connections of your gas barbecue have been factory tested. We do, however, recommend that you leak check all gas connections before operating your gas barbecue.
- WARNING: Perform these leak checks even if your barbecue was dealer or store assembled.
- WARNING: You should check for gas leaks every time you disconnect and reconnect a gas fitting.
NOTE: All factory-made connections have been thoroughly checked for gas leaks and the burner has been flame-tested. As a safety precaution, however, you should check all fittings for leaks before using your WEBER gas barbecue. Shipping and handling may loosen or damage a gas fitting.
CHECKING FOR GAS LEAKS
You will need: A spray bottle, brush or rag and a soap and water solution.
(You can make your own soap and water solution by mixing 20% liquid soap with
80% water; or, you can usually find leak check solution in the plumbing
section of a hardware store.)
-
Make sure the burner control knob is turned off by pushing it in and turning it clockwise to the OFF (O) position (1).
-
Turn gas supply on at source (2).
WARNING: Do not ignite burner when leak checking. Plug Flame iQ to power source (3A) and press the ON button (3B). -
To check for leaks, wet fittings with the soap and water solution, using a spray bottle, brush or rag. If bubbles form, or if a bubble grows, there is a leak. Apply the soap and water solution to the following connections:
- a) Regulator-to-LPG cylinder connection (4).
- b) Regulator hose-to-regulator connection (5).
- c) Flame iQ to regulator hose connection (6).
- d) Flame iQ to valve connection (7).
WARNING: If there is a leak at connection (4,5,6 or 7) turn off the gas. DO NOT OPERATE THE BARBECUE. Contact the Customer Service Representative in your area using the contact information on our website. Log onto www.weber.com.
-
When leak checking is complete, turn gas supply off at the source and rinse connections with water.
NOTE: Since some leak test solutions, including soap and water, may be slightly corrosive, all connections should be rinsed with water after checking for leaks.
