FIREBIRD Lowara Electronic Circulation Pumps
Firebird Pump Setting Guide
The Firebird NZ boilers come with Lowara electronic circulation pumps that use less energy than the previous series of pumps. These pumps have three modes that can be selected during commissioning.
Purging Mode
When the boiler is first installed, the pump can be set on the ‘start’/’mode select’ position, and the LED will blink white while this mode is active. Use this mode to purge the system and remove air from the system and boiler.
Manual Constant Speed Mode
In this mode, the LED will be solid white. If the light is blue, turn the dial back to the mode select position and then to the desired setting. This mode is similar to older style 3-speed circulation pumps and is recommended for most applications. For most applications, a pump pressure of 30-40kPa will be sufficient.
Recommended settings by boiler capacity:
Boiler Capacity | Pump Pressure |
---|---|
20-26kW | 35kPa |
35-44kW | 40kPa |
58-70kW | 45kPa |
Variable Pressure Mode
In this mode, the LED will be illuminated blue. If the LED is white, turn the dial back to the mode select position and then to the desired pump setting. In this mode, the pump detects changes in the system (e.g., closing of radiator TRVs) and reduces the pump pressure. This mode is suggested for radiator systems where it is likely that only a few radiators will be open in some situations or where the client has complained about noise from some radiators.
Recommended settings by boiler capacity
Boiler Capacity | Pump Pressure |
---|---|
20-26kW | 35-45kPa |
35-44kW | 40-50kPa |
58-70kW | 45-55kPa |

Product Usage Instructions
- When installing a new Firebird NZ boiler, set the pump on the ‘start’/’mode select’ position to activate the purging mode. Use this mode to remove air from the system and boiler.
- Once the system has been purged, switch to manual constant speed mode by turning the dial to the desired setting. For most applications, a pump pressure of 30-40kPa will be sufficient. Refer to the recommended settings by boiler capacity table for specific settings.
- If you have a radiator system where only a few radiators will be open in some situations or where the client has complained about noise from some radiators, switch to variable pressure mode by turning the dial to the desired setting. In this mode, the pump detects changes in the system and reduces the pump pressure accordingly. Refer to the recommended settings by boiler capacity table for specific settings.

this mode while purging the system to help remove air from the system and
boiler.
Manual Constant Speed Mode
In this mode the LED will be solid white, if the light is blue turn the dial
back to the mode select position and then to the desired setting. This mode is
similar to older style 3 speed circulation pumps and is recommended for most
applications.
For most applications a pump pressure of 30-40kPa will be sufficient, please see below recommended settings by boiler capacity:
- 20kW = 4-5
- 26kW = 5-6
- 35kW = 6-7
Variable Pressure Mode
In this mode the LED will be illuminated blue, if the LED is white turn the
dial back to the mode select position and then to the desired pump setting. In
this mode the pump detects changes in the system (e.g. closing of radiator
TRV’s) and reduces the pump pressure. This mode is suggested for radiator
systems where it is likely only a few radiators will be open in some
