Installation
Bass/midrange installation
- Remove the cover plastic cap in the upper area of the door trim. Use a particularly thin lever tool for this. We recommend a thin spatula or a thin slotted screwdriver. Lever carefully to avoid any nicks in the plastic!
- Loosen the Torx screw TX 20 underneath.
- The photo shows the positions of the screws and clips. Arrows indicate screws; crosses represent clips on the back of the door cover.
- Remove the plastic cap in the recessed grip with a pointed lever tool, also taking care to avoid any notches caused by lever movements!
- Loosen the Torx screw TX25 underneath.
- Remove the plastic cover cap in the door operating recess with a pointed lever tool, also taking care to avoid any notches caused by lever movements!
- Loosen the Torx screw TX20 underneath.
- Remove the two lower TX25 Torx screws in the area of the lower door trim.
- Remove the three lower plastic cross-head screws in the lower area of the door trim, including the expansion plugs with a PH1 or PH2 screwdriver.
- Please replace any broken retaining clips, expansion dowels or other holders with new ones.
- Now begin to carefully prise the door trim off the inner door panel using a suitable lever tool. Place the lever tool close to the retaining clip. The points described on page 5 show you the positions of the clips. Start from the top, outside.
- Once all clips are unlocked and released, press out the door pin in the upper area of the door trim. To do this, push the door pin together with the retaining plate away from you in the direction of the window.
- The loose door trim is now hooked in the lower section with two hooks. To remove the door trim, swing the upper section towards you. Then you must disconnect any plug connections (window regulator, lighting, etc.) as well as the Bowden cable of the door lock. The door trim can then be removed from the hooks.
- Disconnect all electrical connections (window regulator plug, lighting, loudspeakers).
- Release the Bowden cable of the fairing. To do this, first lever out the yellow retaining clip, which is under tension. The Bowden cable then loses its tension and can be removed from the front retaining clip by turning and unhooking it.
- Now tilt the complete door panel towards you and unhook the two lower hooks.
- In the next step, loosen the four TX20 Torx screws of the woofer/midrange and remove it.
- In the next step, insert the new ETON UG MB 165 SPF bass-midrange driver. Make sure that it is in the correct position (note the positioning lug). Screw the Torx screws TX 20 hand-tight. Make sure that the speaker is supported properly. The seal of the speaker should be evenly loaded all around.
- Check that the loudspeaker is securely installed, then re-establish all electrical connections and rehang the door trim. Re-attach the door opener’s Bowden cable. Make sure that no clips are bent or broken off! Broken clips should be replaced. Reassemble in reverse order.
_ WARNING: _Do not forget to reconnect all cable plugs and correctly replace the door opening cable.
Tweeter installation
- Using a suitable plastic lever tool, remove the cover of the tweeters on the driver and passenger side. This is secured with various clips; to release them, carefully lever the trim upwards. Remove the plastic trim.
- In the next step, lever the original tweeter out of its holder. Here you should carefully unclip the tweeter with a suitable pointed lever tool and lever it upwards. Then remove the original connection cable of the tweeter.
- Connect the tweeter connection cable to the original connector and insert the complete tweeter moulding. If necessary, push the tweeter connection cable slightly into the opening of the tweeter in the dashboard, so that there is enough space to install the new tweeter. Make sure that all clips engage properly.
- Check that the tweeter is correctly seated in the dashboard.
- The installation takes place immediately on the opposite side.
Centre installation
- First remove the centre speaker cover using a suitable lever tool (plastic lever). Take care to avoid lever marks / nicks when removing! The cover is engaged all around with clips and can easily be removed upwards.
- Then remove the centre speaker with a plastic lever. The speaker is secured with a holding point on the left and right of the centre. Lever the speaker out upwards and disconnect the two audio cables.
ATTENTION: If you find only one connection cable on your centre speaker, your head unit does NOT have a CENTRE AUDIO SIGNAL. In this case, the audio line is purely for the S.O.S. emergency call system. In this case, you must install the centre line subsequently. Please contact your ETON dealer for this!
- Like the original Mercedes-Benz centre speaker, the ETON UG MB 65 SPC has two connectors for the audio signal and the S.O.S. emergency call assistant.
- The upper connector is responsible for the audio signal and the lower connector for the S.O.S. emergency call assistant (white plug).
- If your vehicle does not have a factory-supplied audio signal for the centre speaker, this must be created using an additional amplifier or a DSP amplifier. Your ETON dealer will be happy to advise you on this.
- Connect both signal sources (S.O.S. emergency call assistant + audio signal) to the loudspeaker. You cannot mix up the wires, as both plugs are coded and therefore cannot be mixed up.
- Then insert the loudspeaker into the centre opening and make sure that the loudspeaker lies flat with a tight seal and that both fastening points are properly engaged. Then install the grille and make sure that all retaining clips are firmly engaged.
