IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using an electrical appliance, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury, including the following:

  1. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING.

  2. To protect against risk of electric shock, do not place cord, plug, or base of appliance in water or any other liquid.

  3. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are closely supervised and instructed concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

  4. Always unplug from the outlet when not in use, before assembling or disassembling parts and before cleaning. To unplug, grasp the plug and pull from the outlet. Never pull from the power cord.

  5. Avoid contact with moving parts. Keep hands, hair, clothing, as well as spatulas and other utensils away during operation to reduce the risk of injury and/or damage to the appliance.

  6. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions or is dropped or damaged in any manner. Contact the manufacturer at their customer service telephone number for information on examination, repair, or adjustment.
    NOTE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE UNIT YOURSELF. THIS WILL VOID THE WARRANTY

  7. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries.

  8. Do not use outdoors.

  9. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.

  10. Keep hands and utensils out of freezer bowl while in use to reduce the risk of injury to persons or to the appliance itself.

  11. DO NOT USE SHARP OBJECTS OR UTENSILS INSIDE THE FREEZER BOWL! Sharp objects will scratch and damage the inside of the freezer bowl. A rubber spatula or wooden spoon may be used to scoop finished frozen desserts.

  12. Do not use the freezer bowl on flames, hot plates or stoves. Do not expose to heat source.

  13. Do not wash the freezer bowl in the dishwasher.

  14. Do not operate your appliance in an appliance garage or under a wall cabinet. When storing in an appliance garage, always unplug the unit from the electrical outlet. Not doing so could create a risk of fire, especially if the appliance touches the walls of the garage or the door touches the unit as it closes.

  15. Do not leave the Ice Cream Maker unattended while churning.

  16. Do not use appliance for other than its intended purpose.

  17. Do not expose the freezer bowl to temperatures above 105°F/41°C

ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

CAUTION HOT SURFACES: This appliance generates heat and escaping steam during use. Proper precautions must be taken to prevent the risk of burns, fires or other injury to persons or damage to property.
CAUTION: This Popcorn Popper is hot during operation and retains heat for some time after turning OFF. Always use oven mitts when handling hot base and allow to cool before cleaning. Do not place anything on top of the appliance while it is operating or while it is hot.

  1. All users of this appliance must read and understand this instruction manual before operating or cleaning this appliance.
  2. The cord to this appliance should be plugged into a 120V AC electrical outlet only.
  3. If this appliance begins to malfunction during use, press START/ PAUSE and remove plug from wall outlet. Do not use or attempt to repair the malfunctioning appliance. Contact Consumer Service.
  4. Do not immerse power cord in any liquid. If the power cord to this appliance is damaged, it must be replaced. Contact Consumer Service.
  5. Keep the cord out of reach from children and infants to avoid the risk of electric shock and choking.
  6. Place the Ice Cream Maker on a flat, stable, heat-resistant work area.
  7. Keep appliance at least 4 inches away from walls or other objects during operation

NOTES ON THE PLUG

This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way.

NOTES ON THE CORD

a) is to be provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
b) Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.
c) If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used:

  1. The marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance;
  2. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord; and
  3. The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or table top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.

PLASTICIZER WARNING

CAUTION: To prevent Plasticizers from migrating from the finish of the counter upper or table upper or other furniture, place NON-PLASTIC coasters or place mats between the appliance and the finish of the counter upper or table upper. Failure to do so may cause the finish to darken; permanent blemishes may occur, or stains can appear.

ELECTRIC POWER

If the electrical circuit is overloaded with other appliances, your appliance may not operate properly. It should be operated on a separate electrical circuit from other appliances.

OVERHEAT SAFETY FEATURE

Your Ice Cream Maker is equipped with a safety feature that automatically stops the unit if the motor overheats. This may occur if the dessert mixture is extremely thick, if the unit has been running for an excessively long period of time, or if added ingredients (nuts, etc.) are in extremely large pieces. if the unit overheat and stopped working, turn off and unplug the unit. Remove ingredients to serve or store. And cool down for 10-20 minutes, the unit will recovery and will be able to proceed to your preparation.

Getting To Know Your CRUX Ice Cream Maker

  1. Removable Control Box with LCD TIME Display. Before cleaning, the control box should be removed from lid, and then wiped clean with a dry cloth.
  2. Ice Cream/Add-In Chute. Pour 20 oz. (2-1/2) prepared ice cream/dessert mixture into the freezer bowl through the ice cream/add-in chute.
  3. Removable Mixing Paddle. Mixes and aerates ingredients in freezer bowl to create consistently smooth, frozen desserts.
  4. Freezer Bowl. Contains cooling liquid within a double insulated wall to ensure fast and even freezing. The double wall construction keeps the freezer bowl cool and at a constant temperature.
  5. Motor Base
  6. Non-Slip Feet (not shown). Keep motor base stationary during churning.
    Getting To Know Your CRUX Ice Cream Maker

Touchscreen Control

  1. MODE button: When the MODE button is pressed, the active function (GELATO, ICE CREAM or SORBET) will illuminate when selected.
  2. TIME button: Press the TIME button to adjust TIME from default SORBET 25 min. to 40 min. in 1 minute increments.
  3. START/PAUSE button. Press to START processing. Press again to PAUSE operation to check frozen dessert consistency or to add ingredients.

Before Using for the First Time

    1. Remove all packaging from the Ice Cream Maker. Remove any labels from the outer surfaces.
  1. Open the lid. Pull to remove the mixing paddle from the lid. Remove the freezer bowl.

  2. Wash the mixing paddle and freezer bowl in warm, soapy water. Never use abrasive cleansers or scouring pads as they can damage the finish of the freezer bowl. Rinse and dry well.
    CAUTION: DO NOT IMMERSE THE REMOVABLE CONTROL BOX, MOTOR BASE, PLUG OR CORD OF THE ICE CREAM MAKER IN WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUID!

  3. Replace the clean mixing paddle.

  4. Wipe the motor housing with a moistened cloth. Dry thoroughly.

  5. Set your freezer to the coldest setting. Place the clean, empty freezer bowl into the freezer for at least 12 hours before processing frozen desserts.

IMPORTANT: To ensure proper freezing ability of your Ice Cream Maker, before adding mixture, make sure the empty freezer bowl has been stored in an upright position in the freezer. Close the lid. An audible click can be heard as the lid locks in position.

For Best Results: Place the freezer bowl into the freezer for 25 hours prior to use.

Operating Instructions

IMPORTANT : The empty freezer bowl must be placed in an upright position, towards the
back wall of the freezer for at least 12 hours before processing.

  1. Prepare ice cream or dessert mixture and refrigerate in an airtight container until cold, or store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days until use.
    IMPORTANT: Mixture must be cold before processing frozen desserts. If the recipe needs to be cooked, allow the heated mixture to cool for several hours or preferably store mixture covered in the refrigerator overnight before freezing.

  2. Remove freezer bowl from freezer. Insert chilled bowl into the motor base.

  3. Close the lid. An audible click can be heard as the lid locks in position. Plug the Ice Cream Maker into a 120V AC electrical outlet. The Ice Cream Maker will sound 1 tone, the control panel indicator will illuminate when plug in. After the LCD is fully displayed for 1 second, “20” blinks

Manual Mode

  1. The Manual mode is set as default, 20 min will appear and remain on the digital display until further action.

  2. Press TIME to increase the Manual mode churning TIME in 1 min. increments to a maximum of 40 min. When the desired TIME is displayed, press START/PAUSE to begin churning.
    Note : Always start the machine before pouring mixture to prevent the mixture from freezing immediately.

  3. As the paddle begins to turn, pour 20 oz. (2-1/2) prepared ice cream/dessert mixture into the freezer bowl through the ice cream/add-in chute on the top of the lid.

  4. Your preparation is in progress

CAUTION : Do not exceed 20 oz. (2-1/2 cups) maximum capacity. To assure proper freezing, always process a minimum of 20 oz. (2-1/2 cups) prepared ice cream/dessert mixture. IMPORTANT : Foods expand in volume during the freezing process. To avoid overflow and
waste, adjust recipe to allow extra room in the freezer bowl when adding in ingredients during the final minutes of processing.
FOR BEST RESULTS : If using whipping or double cream in dessert mixture, churn in batches of 20z or 2 cups to achieve proper freezing and avoid mixture overflowing from the bowl

Gelato, Ice Cream Or Sorbet Mode
  1. To program GELATO, ICE CREAM or SORBET, press MODE until the desired dessert choice is illuminated.
    NOTE : When preparing frozen yogurt, use the ICE CREAM mode.

  2. Press TIME to adjust for your recipe in 1 min. increments.

  3. When the desired TIME appears on the display, press START/PAUSE. The mixing paddle will begin to turn.
    Note : Always start the machine before pouring mixture to prevent the mixture from freezing immediately.

  4. As the paddle begins to turn, pour your prepared ice cream/dessert mixture into the freezer bowl through the ice cream/add-in chute on the top of the lid.

  5. Your preparation is in progress.
    NOTE : Add-Ins such as mini chocolate chips or chopped chocolate, candies, fruits, or nuts should be chopped into small pieces.

  6. Before adding your own favorite ingredients, allow the Ice Cream Maker to churn for 12 to 20 min., depending on the thickness of the mixture and the quantity processed

  7. Pour additional add-in ingredients to the thickened dessert through the ice cream/add-in chute on the top of the lid.
    IMPORTANT : Check to make sure the mixing paddle sits down into the mixture, not on top of the add-ins, and continues to churn through all ingredients in the full freezer bowl.
    WARNING : To avoid spills and possible damage to the unit, do not overfill the freezer bowl.

  8. Do not leave the Ice Cream Maker unattended while churning.

  9. If more time is needed, you can adjust the time during mixing.

  10. When the TIME counts down to “00”, the unit will sound 5 tones and stop churning.
    Display will show “00” blink 5 times and stay illuminated for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, the diplay will show the last mode of preparation used.
    IMPORTANT: If the frozen dessert is processed to the desired consistency before the TIME expires, press START/PAUSE to turn the Ice Cream Maker OFF.
    Note : The MODE button can be pressed to switch MODE before stirring. In the process of stirring, the MODE button is invalid. During the mixing process, the TIME can only be adjusted according to TIME.

  11. Unplug the Ice Cream Maker from the electrical outlet to switch it off.

  12. Open the lid. Pull to remove the mixing paddle from the lid. Remove the freezer bowl.
    CAUTION: To avoid scratching the non-stick surface of the freezer bowl, NEVER use a metal scoop or any metal utensils to remove ice cream/frozen dessert from the freezer bowl.

  13. Use a plastic or wood spoon or plastic or rubber spatula to remove the frozen dessert from the freezer bowl. Pack into a plastic airtight storage container for freezer storage.

  14. Mark the prepare date and type of desserts on the storage container.
    IMPORTANT: Use your freshly prepared frozen dessert soon after processing. After 1 or 2 weeks, the structure of ice cream deteriorates and the fresh taste may be lost.
    CAUTION: To ensure the best flavor, consistency and to avoid sickness, do not refreeze and consume totally or partly defrosted desserts.

User Maintenance Instructions

This appliance requires little maintenance. It contains no user serviceable parts. Do not try to repair it yourself. Contact a qualified appliance repair technician if the product requires servicing.

Storing Instructions

  1. Make sure the Ice Cream Maker is unplugged and all parts are clean and dry before storing.
  2. Never store the Ice Cream Maker when the freezer bowl is wet.
  3. Store the Ice Cream Maker with clean mixing paddle and dry freezer bowl fully assembled, in its box or in a clean, dry place.

Troubleshooting

Problem : The incorrect MODE was selected.
Solution : Press the START/PAUSE button to stop the stirring process. Press MODE until the desired dessert choice is illuminated.
Problem : The unit stopped running. Load is too heavy.
Solution : Press START/PAUSE and allow the Ice Cream Maker to cool down. Remove ingredients from the freezer bowl. Adjust recipe to thin mixture. Press START/PAUSE to finish churning.
Problem : Finished recipe is too thin.
Solution : Place freezer bowl back in the freezer. Adjust recipe, then continue to churn

Limited Two-Year Warranty

SENSIO Inc. hereby warrants that for a period of TWO YEARS from the date of purchase, this product will be free from mechanical defects in material and workmanship, and for 90 days in respect to non-mechanical parts. At its  sole discretion, SENSIO Inc. will either repair or replace the product found to be defective, or issue a refund on the product during the warranty period.
The warranty is only valid for the original retail purchaser from the date of initial retail purchase and is not transferable. Keep the original sales receipt, as proof of purchase is required to obtain warranty validation. Retail stores selling this product do not have the right to alter, modify, or in any way revise the terms and conditions of the warranty.

Exclusions

The warranty does not cover normal wear of parts or damage resulting from any of the following: negligent use of the product, use of improper voltage or current, improper routine maintenance, use contrary to the operating instructions, disassembly, repair, or alteration by anyone other than qualified SENSIO Inc. personnel. Also, the warranty does not cover Acts of God such as fire, floods, hurricanes, or tornadoes. SENSIO Inc. shall not be liable for any incidental or consequential damages caused by the breach of any express or implied warranty. Apart from the extent prohibited by applicable law, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose is limited in time to the duration of the warranty. Some states, provinces or jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, or limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, and therefore, the above exclusions or limitations may not apply to you. The warranty covers specific legal rights which may vary by state, province and/or jurisdiction.

How To Obtain Warranty Service:

You must contact Customer Service at our toll-free number: 1-866-832-4843. A Customer Service Representative will attempt to resolve warranty issues over the phone. If the Customer Service Representative is unable to resolve the problem, you will be provided with a case number and asked to return the product to SENSIO Inc. Attach a tag to the product that includes: your name, address, daytime contact telephone  number, case number, and description of the problem.
Also, include a copy of the original sales receipt. Carefully package the tagged product with the sales receipt, and send it (with shipping and insurance prepaid) to SENSIO Inc.’s address. SENSIO Inc. shall bear no responsibility or liability for the returned product while in transit to SENSIO Inc.’s Customer Service Center.
