Product Usage Instructions

To use the RF 96 LT, follow the steps below:

  1. Choose the appropriate jumper position based on your desired interval.
  2. Install the device on the desired material using appropriate fasteners.
  3. Connect the device as per the connection diagram in the manual.
  4. Choose the appropriate frequency and status signal based on your location.
  5. Plan the range based on your location and material.
  6. Ensure safety while operating the device.
  7. Clean and maintain the device as per the instructions in the manual.
  8. Replace the battery when the voltage is low as per the Funkprotokoll.

Use of the mounting and wiring instructions

All actions described in these instructions may only be performed by qualified persons who have been trained and authorised by the operating company.

  1. Read and understand these mounting and wiring instructions.
  2. Comply with the valid occupational safety and accident prevention regulations.
  3. Install and operate the device.
Selection and installation of devices and their integration in control systems demand qualified knowledge of all the relevant laws, as well as the normative requirements of the machine manufacturer. In case of doubt, the German language version of these instructions shall prevail.

Scope of delivery
Device, mounting and wiring instructions, carton.

Intended use
The device transmits by radio the detection of objects that reflect infrared light in its detection range. The receiver must conform to the sWave® protocol of the steute modules.

Status signal
The device can regularly transmit a status signal in which the current switching status of the sensor is transmitted. This happens independently of a change of the switching state. The status signal informs the user that the device is currently functioning properly.
The user can set the status signal with the jumper at various intervals.
To do this, remove the 5 cover screws with a Torx 8 screwdriver.
Open the enclosure. Take care to ensure sufficient ESD protection.
Inside the enclosure a jumper is located on the circuit board. Adjust to the desired interval. For evaluation of status signals, steute provides special receivers.

Mounting and wiring instructions

Reflective light-sensor

After successful adjustment, close the housing again. Tighten the cover screws with approx. 0.45 Nm. The sealing must not be contaminated by any foreign bodies.

Mounting and wiring
Mount the device on an even surface. Install the device according to the mounting and wiring instructions of the receiver. The wireless range depends heavily on the local conditions. Conductive materials may strongly affect the radio signal. This also includes thin foils, e.g. aluminium laminations on insulation materials.

Allocation of locations and radio frequencies

Design of wireless range
The radio signal is attenuated on the way from the transmitter to the receiver. In addition, the radio signal is attenuated/influenced by obstacles. The degree of attenuation depends on the material of the obstacle. The following tables serve as a guide.

Penetration of radio signals

Typical ranges

steute-RF-96-LT-SW922-Reflective-Light-Sensor-4

Radio operation

The transmission of a switching command from the transmitter to the receiver takes about 80 to 100 ms, based on the sWave® data transmission.
The switching signal from a transmitter may not be generated at a shorter interval, otherwise the signal will be suppressed.

Safety

Do not use the device in connection with other devices whose direct or indirect purpose is to ensure life or health, or whose operation may pose a threat to humans, animals or material assets.

Maintenance and cleaning
With rough conditions, we recommend routine maintenance as follows:

  1. Removal of all dirt particles.
  2. Remove dust from sensor surfaces.
Clean enclosure on the outside only. Clean enclosure with household cleaning agents. Do not use compressed air to clean.

Technical information
The device detects objects by emitting infrared light that is reflected by the objects.
The device recognises bright objects better than dark ones.
In particular, it recognises light objects against a dark background better than dark objects against a light background.
A slightly extended reaction time increases the battery life.
The device reacts sensitively to stray light from flashing warning lights with xenon gas discharge lamps.
To avoid possible malfunctions: install the device protected from such lights, if necessary.

Battery

When the battery voltage acc. to the radio protocol drops below approx.
<3200 mV (at 20°C, load approx. 20 mA), it may be assumed that the battery is empty. Attention: The open circuit voltage measurement does not provide reliable information! In order to ensure reliable functioning, the battery must be replaced. To do this, the 5 screws in the housing cover must be opened using a torx-8 screwdriver. The battery should be inserted in the direction shown by the symbols on the cover.
Use only the designated battery type or a complementary battery type. Depending on the country the device is supplied to, delivery will include an AA lithium battery SL-760/3.6 V/2.2 Ah in a battery adapter,or a lithium battery SL-2770/3.6 V/8.5 Ah without an adapter or a complementary battery type.
