Product Information

The STI-2 is a relay manufactured by Stewart Filmscreen Corporation for electronic relays. It comes with instructions for the correct replacement of relays. All electrical connections must conform to local and NEC codes. The Stewart Filmscreen STI-2 Relay must adhere to these instructions for replacement.

Product Usage Instructions

To replace the existing screen trigger relay, follow the below steps:

  1. Ensure that the electric screen’s power cord is unplugged or the circuit breaker has been shut off.
  2. Open the electrical box end of the screen.
  3. You can choose to use/keep the existing LED/ferrule or replace it.
  4. If you do not choose to replace the original LED/ferrule, cut the leads and use a splice or small wire nuts to reconnect the LED wires of the new relay.
  5. Remove the original LED/ferrule by loosening the lock nut on the ferrule’s threads.
  6. Unthread the ring nut on the outside of the housing to release the 3.5 mm trigger input jack.
  7. Remove the wire nuts that connect the relay leads with the motor and power cord. Remove relay.

To install a new screen trigger relay, follow the below steps:

  1. Install new input jack into housing and secure it with a ring nut.
  2. Install a new LED/ferrule if you have elected to do so. Secure it in place with a lock nut.
  3. Use the wiring diagram provided in the manual for proper wiring connections.
  4. Secure wire connections with wire nuts.
  5. Reinstall the endplate and supply AC to the unit.

The STI-2 can be wired to a projector or transformer. An optional 12 VOLT DC Transformer can be used to operate the screenby connecting it to a switch or an AC outlet. If using a transformer, switch the secondary or Output of the transformer, NOT the 120V Input of the transformer.

Trigger operational information

The STI-2 relay receives a 12 VDC trigger input signal to deploy the screen. At that time the LED indicator will light up and remain lit while the screen is “down”. When the trigger signal is terminated, the LED will go out and the screen will retract. It is important to remember to allow the screen to fully deploy or retract before switching directions of the trigger signal. Never reverse a trigger signal when the motor is operational. Always allow the motor to fully cycle and stop before sending or removing the trigger signal.
