Introduction

The Impact Varidrive Set makes it easy raise and lower seamless background paper rolls. The set includes two expandable Varidrive cores that grip the paper roll’s inner tube and allow you to raise and lower backgrounds with a simple pull of the chain. The Varidrive set can be used with paper rolls up to 12 feet wide and 42 pounds. A large-tooth gear and flat metal chain assure smooth operation that won’t interrupt your workflow.
Impact offers red, gray, black, and natural silver chains for easy identification in a multi-roll setup.

Setup
Setting Up the Varidrive

Hold the Varidrive by its shaft, and unscrew the chain drive control knob.

Pull off the chain guard to leave enough space to fit the chain inside.
Important! If the gear comes off the shaft, align the gear’s tab with the shaft’s notch to slide it back into place. Don’t use force to slide the gear back onto the shaft. If it doesn’t slide easily, turn the gear until the tab and notch are aligned.

Load the chain onto the gear.

Press the chain guard back into place, and screw the control knob onto the threading.

Insert the expandable core into your paper roll. You may need rotate the control knob counterclockwise to contract the core so it will fit. The flat part of the black cone at the end of the expandable core should be flush with the end of the paper roll.

Hold the Varidrive’s shaft with one hand, and turn the control knob clockwise to expand the core until it tightens inside the paper roll.

Insert the tension core into your paper roll, and turn the control knob clockwise until it’s snug.
Mounting the Varidrive Set

Mount the chain drive side of the paper roll assembly into a background support hook. Be sure to mount it using the chain guard’s internal slot, so the chain guard sits horizontally, as pictured. If the chain guard is set vertically, the chain will hang over the side of the chain guard, and may prevent smooth operation (see inset).

Mount the tension drive side of your paper roll assembly onto the corresponding background support hook. You can adjust the position of the expansion core’s slot by loosening the tension knob and sliding the channel assembly along the shaft.

Pull the chain vertically to raise or lower the background. Do not twist the chain or pull it forcefully.
Note: Adjust the tension knob with enough tension so the chain operates smoothly, but the paper roll doesn’t unravel from its own weight. Setting too much tension on the chain can potentially damage the Varidrive.

This set of background triple hooks with two ratchet-handle super clamps
creates a versatile background solution for up to three cored seamless
backgrounds simultaneously.
One-Year Limited Warranty
This Impact product is warranted to the original purchaser to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal consumer use for a period of one (1) year from the original purchase date or thirty (30) days after replacement, whichever occurs later. The warranty provider’s responsibility with respect to this limited warranty shall be limited solely to repair or replacement, at the provider’s discretion, of any product that fails during normal use of this product in its intended manner and in its intended environment. Inoperability of the product or part(s) shall be determined by the warranty provider. If the product has been discontinued, the warranty provider reserves the right to replace it with a model of equivalent quality and function.
This warranty does not cover damage or defect caused by misuse, neglect, accident, alteration, abuse, improper installation or maintenance. To obtain warranty coverage, contact the Impact Customer Service Department to obtain a return merchandise authorization (“RMA”) number, and return the defective product to Impact along with the RMA number and proof of purchase. Shipment of the defective product is at the purchaser’s own risk and expense.
