Product Usage Instructions

Before installing or using the lighting fixture, it is important to read and follow all safety instructions provided in the manual. The following are some usage instructions to keep in mind:

  • Always wear gloves and safety glasses when removing the luminaire from the carton, installing, servicing, or performing maintenance.
  • Avoid direct eye exposure to the light source while it is on.
  • Keep combustible and other materials that can burn away from the lamp/lens.
  • Do not operate in close proximity to persons, combustible materials, or substances affected by heat or drying.
  • Never connect components under load. Do not mount or support these fixtures in a manner that can cut the outer jacket or damage wire insulation.
  • LED fixtures must be powered directly of a switched circuit unless individual product specifications deem otherwise.
  • Avoid covering LED fixtures with insulation, foam, or other materials that will prevent convection or conduction cooling.
  • Ensure proper polarity before installation to prevent damage to the LED fixtures due to electrostatic discharge (ESD).
  • Personal grounding equipment must be worn during all installation or servicing of the unit.
  • Do not touch individual electrical components as this can cause ESD, shorten lamp life, or alter performance.
  • Always read the fixture complete installation instructions prior to installation for any additional fixture-specific warnings.
  • Ensure that the electrical distribution system is up to NEC (and any applicable local code) requirements and verify that the power distribution system has proper grounding.

Following these instructions will help ensure the safe and effective use of the lighting fixture.

  • To reduce the risk of death, personal injury or property damage from fire, electric shock, falling parts, cuts/abrasions, and other hazards please read all warnings and instructions included with and on the fixture box and all fixture labels.
  • Before installing, servicing, or performing routine maintenance upon this equipment, follow these general precautions.
  • Installation and service of luminaires should be performed by a qualified licensed electrician.
  • Maintenance of the luminaires should be performed by a person(s) familiar with the luminaires’ construction and operation and any hazards involved. Regular fixture maintenance programs are recommended.
  • It will occasionally be necessary to clean the outside of the refractor/lens. The frequency of cleaning will depend on ambient dirt level and minimum light output which is acceptable to user. The refractor/lens should be washed in a solution of warm water and any mild, non-abrasive household detergent, rinsed with clean water and wiped dry. Should the optical assembly become dirty on the inside, wipe the refractor/lens and clean in above manner, replacing damaged gaskets as necessary.
  • DO NOT INSTALL DAMAGED PRODUCTS! This luminaire has been properly packed so that no parts should have been damaged during transit. Inspect to confirm. Any part damaged or broken during or after assembly should be replaced.
  • Recycle: For information on how to recycle LED electronic products, please visit www.epa.gov.
  • These instructions do not purport to cover all details or variations in equipment nor to provide every possible contingency to meet in connection with installation, operation, or maintenance. WARNING RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK

  • Disconnect or turn off the power before installation or servicing.
  • Verify that the supply voltage is correct by comparing it with the luminaire label information.
  • Make all electrical and grounded connections in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and any applicable local code requirements.
  • All wiring connections should be capped with UL-approved recognized wire connectors.

WARNING RISK OF BURN

  • Allow lamp/fixture to cool before handling. Do not touch the enclosure or light source.
  • Do not exceed the maximum wattage marked on the luminaire label.
  • Follow all manufacturer’s warnings, recommendations, and restrictions for driver type, burning position, mounting locations/methods, replacement and recycling.

CAUTION RISK OF INJURY

  • Wear gloves and safety glasses at all times when removing luminaire from cartons, installing, servicing or performing maintenance.
  • Avoid direct eye exposure to the light source while it is on.

CAUTION RISK OF FIRE

  • Keep combustible and other materials that can burn, away from lamp/lens.
  • Do not operate in close proximity to persons, combustible materials or substances affected by heat or drying.

CAUTION: RISK OF PRODUCT DAMAGE

  • Never connect components under load.
  • Do not mount or support these fixtures in a manner that can cut the outer jacket or damage wire insulation.
  • Controls for dimming, auto-sensing, or remote control of a luminaire that are not factory-wired to the luminaire must be checked for compatibility with the luminaire prior to installation. LED fixtures must be powered directly of a switched circuit.
  • Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Do not restrict fixture ventilation. Allow for some volume of airspace around fixture. Avoid covering LED fixtures with insulation, foam, or other material that will prevent convection or conduction cooling.
  • Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Do not exceed fixtures maximum ambient temperature.
  • Only use fixture in its intended location.
  • LED products are Polarity Sensitive. Ensure proper Polarity before installation.
  • Electrostatic Discharge (ESD): ESD can damage LED fixtures. Personal grounding equipment must be worn during all installation or servicing of the unit.
  • Do not touch individual electrical components as this can cause ESD, shorten lamp life, or alter performance.
  • Some components inside the fixture may not be serviceable. In the unlikely event, your unit may require service, stop using the unit immediately and contact an ABL representative for assistance.
  • Always read the fixtures complete installation instructions prior to installation for any additional fixture specific warnings.
  • Always ensure that the electrical distribution system is up to NEC (and any applicable local code) requirements.
  • Verify that the power distribution system has proper grounding. Lack of proper earth ground can lead to fixture failure and may void the warranty.

Choose either Part 15 OR Part 18 and move to Page 3 Installation Instructions under Delivery. Lithonia Outdoor will always use Part 15.
All luminaires that contain electronic devices that generate frequencies above 9kHz from any component within the luminaire comply with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:

  • This device may not cause harmful interference.
  • This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.

This device complies with Part 18 of the FCC Rules but may cause interference with cordless and cell phones, radios, televisions, and other electronic devices. To correct the problem, move the device away from the luminaire or plug it into a different outlet. This product may cause interference to radio equipment and should not be installed near maritime safety communications equipment or other critical navigation or communications equipment operating between 0.45-30MHz.

Prep Fixtures

Locate Material

All components required to install the fixture run/pattern are on one pallet.

  • Fixture Sections
  • Joining Hardware
  • Record Drawings

NOTE : Each luminaire section must be paired with its corresponding head unit. Look for matching fixture types on the luminaire and head unit packaging boxes.

Fixture Identification

FIXTURES MUST BE INSTALLED IN ORDER AS SHOWN ON RECORD DRAWINGS.

  • Labels are located on the carton, on the fixture, and on the lens.
  • Each section is identified by an ID#.
  • Section position starting with X.000 for the first fixture.
  • Same fixture configuration can carry identical ID# and are interchangeable.
  • Individual fixtures have whole numbers.
  • For replacement parts, provide ID# and order #.

Install Head Unit

NOTE : 50ft max distance between head unit and J-box for the fixture.

Hard Surface

For Surface Mount, Side Entry

  • Loosen the screw from the lid on the head unit and swing it to open.
  • Flush the head unit onto the ceiling and secure it to ceiling using 4X screws.
    • Complete the wire harnesses inside the head unit.
  • Use knock-outs of the side access plates to connect input and output metal conduits.
    • Close the lid and fasten it using a screw.

For Surface Mount, Rear Entry

  • Loosen the screw from the lid on the head unit and swing it to open.
  • Flush the head unit onto the ceiling and secure it to ceiling using 4X screws.
    • Complete the wire harnesses inside the head unit.
  • Use knock-outs of the rear access plates to connect input and output metal conduits.
    • Close the lid and fasten it using a screw.

For Wall Mount, Side Entry

  • Loosen the screw from the lid on the head unit and swing it to open.
  • Flush the head unit onto the ceiling and secure it to ceiling using 4X screws.
    • Complete the wire harnesses inside the head unit.
  • Use knock-outs of the side access plates to connect input and output metal conduits.
    • Close the lid and fasten it using a screw.

Install Fixture Wall

  • At Power Feed Locations: Mount the J-box (recommended as above) on the wall at a distance of ½” from the start of run.
    • The center line of the J-box and luminaire run should align with each other. Complete wire connections from the head unit inside J-box.
  • For an Individual (IND): Locate mounting brackets on side of the luminaire using 2X screws and fasten them using 2X #6-32 locknuts. Repeat the same on other end of the luminaire.
  • Pass the feed cord through the hole provided in the wall bracket and into the J-box as shown.
    • Connect it to its mating connector from the head unit inside the J-box.
  • a. Align the edge of the wall bracket with the edge of the J-box as shown.
    • Mount the wall bracket using dry wall screws (provided by others) at the required positions (refer to page 10 for mounting hole positions).
    • If needed, pre-drill a hole in the wall. Ensure that the locating hole on wall bracket appears on top during assembly.
    • Based on the Run, mount multiple numbers of wall brackets spaced at 1″ gap in between.
  • Tilt-and-insert the luminaire and locate it within the wall bracket as shown. Insert 3/8″ screws (marked with an arrow) on either side of the luminaire to arrest its position.
  • For a Run: Detach the lens from the luminaire completely on both sides using the lens removal tool (provided in the kit – repeat this for all LEFT and INT luminaires).
    • Assemble the aligner key and light blocker foil and slide them (2X) into the DIRECT side of the housing as shown.
    • Similarly, slide the indirect joining bracket into the INDIRECT side of the housing as shown. Place the aligner key dimples to face the outer extrusion.
    • Repeat this step only on LEFT and INT luminaires. Assemble the LEFT luminaire towards the wall as mentioned in steps D2-D5.
  • Raise the intermediate luminaire (INT) towards the LEFT luminaire and locate it within the wall bracket.
    • Make electrical connections between the luminaires as shown before the luminaires are completely installed.
    • Next, slide the INT luminaire along the aligner keys and light blocker foil towards the LEFT luminaire as shown.
  • Once both the luminaires mate, secure shoulder screws (2X) (provided in the kit) from the bottom using Allen key provided (from the kit).
    • Ensure that both screws will fasten the joiner bracket from the INT luminaire towards the joiner knuckle from the previous luminaire as shown.
    • Repeat the same step for all INT and RIGHT luminaires. Assemble the luminaire with the wall bracket as mentioned in step D5.
  • Once all the electrical connections are made by a licensed electrical contractor, reinstall the lens of the LEFT-INT-RIGHT luminaires.
    • The lens needs to match up with the unit it was originally in. Gently push the lens into the housing until engaged completely from all sides.

Electrical Connection Head Unit to Fixture

All power connections should be installed according to local/national codes by a Certified Electrician.

Electrical Connections:

  • Secure electrical connections to the fixture per the wiring chart on this page, and in accordance with local/national code.
  • Secure the wiring access plate back to the fixture when completed
    NOTE : Provided flex cord is not plenum rated, the cord will need to be ran with flexible or rigid conduit at time of installation.

All power connections should be installed according to local/national codes by a Certified Electrician.

NOTE : Provided Flex cord is not plenum rated, the cord will need to be run with Flexible or Rigid conduit at time of installation.

  • A Must connect to luminaires for all input control types! Modulus control lines are polarity-insensitive. Use 12AWG solid wire in grounded conduit for remote placement of head unit up to 50ft away from fixture canopy.

  • B Line voltage should match the ordered voltage option (120/277/MVOLT or 347V).
    See the next pages for emergency power input wiring diagrams. Separate the luminaire disconnect before servicing. Luminaire disconnects may not be present on units built before Fall 2021.

  • C Purple/gray will control direct lights, first zone or intensity (for tunable white), blue/blue-white will control indirect light, second zone, or CCT (for tunable white). Cap blue/blue-white if the second channel is unused.

  • D DALI lines are polarity insensitive. Customer to supply DALI power supply external to the head unit.

  • E Connect Cat5 to integral nIO on the outside wall of head unit.

  • F Screw external antenna onto coax connector on the outside wall of the head unit after installation.

  • G Eco System lines are polarity-insensitive.

  • H For Chicago Plenum (CP) applications, a cat5 splitter is located inside the Modulus outputs connection area. Installer should pull the splitter through the access plate opening, make cat5 connections, then push the connector back into the wiring compartment before replacing access plates. All connections should be made through the gasketed side access plates for CP head units – do not remove the top cover, which is factory sealed with aluminum tape. Replace tape if removed.

Emergency Circuit (EC)

All power connections should be installed according to local/national codes by a Certified Electrician.

Microinverter (E35INV)

All power connections should be installed according to local/national codes by a Certified Electrician.

  • Ships with E35INV head unit for field installation. Includes 3ft whip but can be installed up to 250ft away with Class 1 wires run through additional conduit (not included) in accordance with local code.
  • Ensure that Inverter Output Voltage Selector Switch always set to 277VAC Out (the left-most switch position) before connecting normal power, regardless of normal power voltage.

Wiring Compartment Detail

  • 120-277V, unswitched. Make normal power connections to 18AWG solid copper flying leads in accordance with local code.
  • Luminaire disconnects will be added to all head unit power input wires beginning Fall 2021 – head units produced prior to then may not have disconnected.
  • Mount the test switch remotely (optional) or cap red/black and white/red wires if not in use.

NOTE : Short unit connector lines after installation is complete.
NOTE : Ensure that the voltage selector switch on the output side of IIS-35-HE is set to 277V REGARDLESS of input voltage.
