User Guide
This guide describes the configuration of the docking station for use with the
Illustrate body worn camera.
In the Box

The docking station should be placed on a flat surface.

Insert the power cable into the power input connector (Figure 2) and connect the power cable to a mains supply.
Note: The power on indicator (Figure 1) should now be green. -
Insert the USB cable into the USB connection (Figure 2) on the docking station and insert the other end into the USB connection on a PC that’s running the dock controller software.

Battery Charging Guidance
This section outlines guidance for charging batteries and correct operation to
maximize battery life.
Usage of the equipment outside of the guidelines may result in shortened
battery life, or battery failure.
A failing battery can be identified by its failure to hold charge, or by signs
of swelling – this can be seen by closely examining the camera case without
having to open it.
In either scenario, remove the battery from the device and contact support at
https://illustracameras.com/technical-support/. Do not use or charge the
device.
Battery Lifespan
Rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries have a rated lifespan of 500 full charge
and discharge cycles. With age, batteries will gradually lose their capacity
to hold a charge. This loss of capacity (aging) is irreversible. As the
battery loses capacity, the length of time it will power your device (run
time) decreases. Additionally, lithium-ion batteries continue to slowly
discharge (self-discharge) when not in use or while in storage. It is advised
that you routinely check the battery’s charge status. The device should be
recharged regularly to maintain the internal chemistry of the battery.
Charging Guidance
- DO charge the battery in an environment that is below 25°C. Charging above this temperature range may harm the performance of the battery or reduce the battery’s life expectancy.
- DO recharge a depleted battery as soon as reasonably possible. If the camera is operated until it shuts down due to low battery, it should ideally be recharged within a day.

- DO remove the camera from the charger if it remains unused for more than 1 week. If the camera remains unused for a long period of time, it should be left off the charger and its charge should be topped up every 3 months by charging for 1 hour.
- DO replace the battery only with a replacement supplied by an approved reseller.
- DO dispose of used batteries according to local law and regulations applicable to Li-Ion batteries.
- DO apply camera updates to the latest firmware revision regularly. This will ensure it has the latest available battery-protection features. You can obtain information on firmware releases from your account manager.
- DO NOT expose the camera or battery to temperatures above or below those listed on the datasheet.
- DO NOT leave the camera in direct sunlight, especially behind glass in a car or a similar environment.
- DO NOT attempt to charge the camera while it is operational. An operational camera is defined as a camera that is recording and/or live streaming.
- DO NOT leave the camera docked and charging for longer than 1 week. If the camera is expected to be unused for more than 1 week, it should be removed from the charger and kept in the following state:
i. Powered off
ii. Medium amount of charge
iii. In a temperate environment, ideally at around 20°C
Docking Station Electrical Safety Notes
The following precautions must be taken to avoid damage to the unit:
- DO NOT CONNECT DIRECTLY TO THE MAINS SUPPLY
- Only ever use the external power supply provided with the product. If the external power supply needs replaced, only ever use a power supply from the manufacturer
- Employ suitable mains filtering if voltage spikes are likely
- Do not reverse the polarity of the DC power supply. It will cause irreparable damage to the docking station
- Do not leave the docking station within the reach of young children.
Safety Instructions
- Avoid contact with liquid, keep dry. Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture.
- Avoid extreme temperatures.
- Do not dispose of in a fire.
- Do not attempt to disassemble.
- If the equipment is used in a manner not specified by the manufacturer, the protection provided by the equipment maybe impaired.
- There are no user serviceable parts. To prevent electric shock or fire hazard, do not remove cover.
- Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the docking station has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the docking station, the docking station has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped
Product Handling
- Always treat your docking station and its accessories with care and keep it in a clean and dust-free place.
- Do not expose your docking station or its accessories to open flames or lit tobacco products.
- Do not expose your docking station or its accessories to liquid, moisture or high humidity.
- Do not drop or throw or your docking station or its accessories.
- Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or aerosols to clean the docking station or its accessories.
- Do not paint your docking station or its accessories.
- Please check local regulations for disposal of electronic products.
- Keep your docking station clear of debris and other environmental contaminants at any time. Do not cover the device with anything. This may lead to overheating of the device and cause fire.
- To avoid mechanical damage, it is advised to transport the docking station in an impact-proof package.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD)
Do not touch the docking station pin connectors.
Indoor usage
The docking station has been designed for use in indoor environments only. It
can operate in temperatures from 0˚C to +40˚C. Explosive environments (Petrol
stations and explosive atmospheres)
The docking station is not to be used in locations with potentially explosive
atmospheres. Areas with potentially explosive atmospheres include but are not
limited to; fueling areas, below decks on boats, fuel or chemical transfer or
storage facilities, areas where the air contains chemicals or particles, such
as grain, dust, or metal powders.
Regulatory Compliance
FCC COMPLIANCE STATEMENT
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class
B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are
designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a
residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio
frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the
instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However,
there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular
installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or
television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and
on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more
of the following measures: Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which
the receiver is connected.
Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.
FCC Warning: changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party
responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the
equipment.
To meet the FCC’s RF exposure rules and regulations: Shielded interface cables
must be used in order to comply with the emission limits.
The 8-bay docking station shall only be used for fixed and mobile
applications.
