Important Notes
PLEASE READ this guide is intended to aid in the installation of our products. It is recommended that factory manuals or instructions are followed to remove the fuel pump assembly from the vehicle. Some instructions in this guide are generic. The factory manual should supersede any contradiction.
NOTE: The convoluted fuel tubes included in this kit are specially designed for the 03-04 Mustang Cobra, one end is slightly larger than the other. The smaller end is designed for the fuel pump, and the larger end is designed for the plastic Y-fitting. Do not use other generic rubber hoses for install, they can leak, split and harden causing fuel pressure issues. The fuel pumps are specially modified for the factory Ford electrical connector as well. The factory pumps and connector have a notch and tab that aligns them.
Suggested Tools
- Below is a picture of suggested tools that will make the installation process easier.
Module Disassembly
- Remove the 9/32” screw that secures the pumps to the module with the band strap. Remove the band from the module, it is hooked in on the opposite side, slightly unbend the band then unhook the loop.
- Unplug the factory electrical connectors, it may be easier to use a small flat head screwdriver or a pick tool to depress the latch due to the crowded nature of the module.
- Here you can see the special guide that is specific to some of the OEM 2003-2004 Mustang Cobra modules. If your module has this connector, you can de-pin and replace it with the supplied connector.
- Using a pick or small flat blade screwdriver depress the locking tab and remove the factory pins from the special notched connector, make sure to keep the wires in the same spots or the pumps will spin backwards.
Pump Install
- If necessary, pry the locking tab outwards slightly so it latches firmly in the new DW supplied connector. Insert the factory wires into the DW connectors like shown.
- Remove the factory convoluted tubes from the top of the Y-Fitting. This is typically done with a knife, take care not to damage the fitting under the tubing. Once loose remove the pumps from the module.
- Separate the fuel socks and the rubber isolators from the factory pumps, you will be re-using the isolators but not the filter socks. Slide the filter socks onto the Deatschwerks pumps and attach the supplied white rectangle filter socks, secure them in place with the supplied star washers.
- The supplied convoluted fuel hose has different sized openings at each end. The smaller end is designed for the Deatschwerks fuel pump, slip it on and secure it with one of the supplied hose clamps, repeat this on both fuel pumps.
- NOTE: Use only the supplied convoluted tubing, using incorrect rubber fuel hose can lead to fuel leaks.
- Install the larger end of the hoses onto the factory black plastic Y-Fitting and secure them with the remaining supplied hose clamps.
Flushing and Priming
- Plug the factory connectors back into the pumps, due to the special notch that’s been added to the Deatschwerks pumps the factory connectors plug directly into the new pumps. Re-install the factory band strap onto to the module, hook the end through the eyelet on the module and secure with the OEM 9/32” screw.
- Reinstall the assembly into the fuel tank and attach a length of hose to the outlet of the pump assembly allowing it to drain into a fuel safe container and prime the fuel pump assembly
- Crank the engine for a period long enough to prime the pump assembly and evacuate the air introduced during the pump installation process.
- Attach supply line to the outlet of the pump assembly.
