Congratulations on your purchase of this premium quality BOSTITCH Electric Pencil Sharpener. With proper use and care, this sharpener will serve you well for many years.

Important

Please read these instructions completely and carefully before operating your new electric sharpener. Keep this instruction sheet for future reference.

Features

Quiet Sharp 6™ Classroom Pencil Sharpener

  • Sharpens multiple pencil sizes
  • Unique angled cutters for controlled sharpening
  • Tip Saver Technology to prevent over-sharpening
  • High capacity easy clean shavings receptacle
  • The safety shut-off feature prohibits operation when blades are exposed
  • Quiet heavy duty long life motor with thermal protection for added safety
  • Extra long 6-foot power cord

Caution

  1. Only plug the sharpener into a standard 120 V AC outlet located near and easily accessible to the unit.
  2. This unit must be unplugged to disable power in case of a malfunction.
  3. To extend the life of the motor, remove the pencil from the sharpener opening once the point is sharpened.
  4. Refrain from inserting hard materials such as pens, mechanical pencils, chalk, crayons, or soft coloring pencils which will damage or clog the cutter blades.
  5. In the event the motor should overheat, a safety device (thermal switch) will activate to protect the motor from damage. If the thermal switch is activated, allow the sharpener to cool for approximately 20 to 30 minutes to reset automatically.
  6. An integral safety device prevents operation unless the shaving receptacle is firmly in place.
  7. Unplug the sharpener before cleaning with a damped cloth and mild soap solution.

How to Use

  1. Insert the AC plug into any standard 120 V AC outlet.
  2. Rotate the pencil size selector dial to the correct pencil size. The size for a standard no. 2 pencil is marked with an “S” on the EPS10HC.
  3. Insert the pencil into the pencil sharpener opening to sharpen.
  4. At the end of the sharpening cycle, the Tip Saver Technology™ feature will indicate the pencil is sharpened by a change in motor sound and a decrease in resistance. No additional force should be applied to the pencil.
  5. Pull out the pencil at the end of the sharpening cycle.
  6. For trouble-free operation, empty the shavings receptacle frequently.

Note: Pencils with un-centered lead will not sharpen evenly.

FAQs

Why doesn’t the pencil sharpener work?****

Check to make sure that the power cord is plugged into a working outlet. If the outlet is controlled by a wall switch, make sure that it is “ON”. Also, check to make sure that the receptacle cover and cutter assembly are properly installed. If the receptacle cover and cutter assembly are properly installed, check for a possible circuit overload or tripped circuit breaker.

Why does my pencil sharpener not sharpen all of my pencils?****

This may be caused by one of two things: 1) Your pencils need sharpening, or 2) Your pencils are too large for this electric sharpener (the maximum diameter of each pencil should not exceed 7/8″).

What should I do if my pencils are too large for this electric sharpener?****

You can use our BOSTITCH® Electric Pencil Sharpener model EPS10HC QuietSharp 6™ Classroom Pencil Sharpener as an alternative since it can sharpen larger diameter pencils up to 7/8″. However, you will need to replace the standard cutter blade with one of our Classroom Cutter Blades model ECPB10HC which has an opening that can accommodate larger diameter pencils up to 7/8″.

How long does an electric pencil sharpener last?****

High-quality steel cutters in durable electric pencil sharpeners can deliver 3,000 to 4,000 sharpening before they need to be replaced.

How do you maintain an electric pencil sharpener?****

Disassemble the unit and use canned air to clean it out. If the unit still operates sluggishly or does not sharpen well, the blade may be dull. You can try disassembling the unit and using a small file to sharpen the blades–or you can replace the unit.

What are some facts about the electric pencil sharpener?****

They work on the same principle as manual ones, but one or more flat-bladed or cylindrical cutters are rotated by an electric motor. Some electric pencil sharpeners are powered by batteries rather than being plugged into a building’s electrical system, making them more portable.

What are the requirements for a pencil sharpener?****

The casing and metal blade must be secure and durable enough to withstand regular use. The pencil sharpener should be easy to clean, with filings substantially removed by gentle tapping. The sharpener must be comfortable to hold and use by children and be suitable for their safe and extended use.

What is the purpose of an electric sharpener?****

Electric pencil sharpeners have a motor inside that causes the razor to spin quickly and sharpen a pencil rapidly and efficiently. Hand-operated sharpeners work when the pencil is turned manually toward the razor, and the wood and graphite are shaved off the sides.

How do you clean an electric sharpener?****

To resolve this, unplug the sharpener, remove the shavings receptacle, and use your hand to tap the sharpener while holding it over a garbage can. If this still does not solve the problem then unplug the sharpener, turn it over, and use a paper clip or other small tool to clean around the cutter.

Why do pencil sharpeners have two holes?****

The larger hole is typically used for soft-core pencils/ pencil crayons or anything that is too large to fit in the small hole. The smaller hole is for regular pencils and other types of lead that is uneasily broken.
