GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Read these instructions completely before using this machine. Only use this machine as outlined and detailed in this manual.
- Keep the work area clear of obstructions and well ventilated. A cluttered, untidy and poorly ventilated workplace makes accidents more likely.
- Consider the work area environment. Do not use power tools in damp or wet conditions. Keep the work area well lit. Do not use power tools in the presence of !ammable liquids, gasses or in dust laden atmospheres.
- Keep children and bystanders safely at bay. Visitors are a distraction and are di”cult to protect. They are unlikely to have any knowledge of safety procedures or protocols.
- Store idle equipment. Store idle or presently unused equipment in a locked, dry cupboard.
- Use appropriate protective equipment. Approved safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection should be worn by the operator and any assistants when operating any power saw.
- Remain alert. A moment’s inattention when operating any power tool could result in serious personal injury. Do not use this equipment if you are tired, or under the in!uence drugs, alcohol or when taking certain prescribed medicines (consult your doctor).
- Do not overreach. Keep proper balanced footing at all times.
SPECIFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
- Only use this stand on a #rm, !at, dry and level surface. This will ensure maximum stability during use.
- Exercise care when elevating and preparing the stand for use or when collapsing the stand prior to transportation or storage. Ensure that hands or #ngers cannot become trapped in the hinges or in any other of the mechanisms included within the stand.
- When the stand is erected, all four (4) of the hinge latching pins must be fully engaged with the slots in the hinge plates. This will ensure that the stand remains rigid during cutting operations.
- All four legs must be set to the same length. If the length of the legs is adjusted, ensure that the inner leg locking pins are fully engaged with the relevant holes in the outer leg tube.
- Do not step or climb on the stand. Do not use as a general purpose work stand or work surface. Only collapse the stand and prepare for storage after removal of any attached chop saw.
- Conduct a safety check before every work cycle. Check particularly that any attached machine is securely fastened to the stand, and that the stand legs are correctly deployed and latched into their service position.
- Do not withdraw the extension arms beyond their safe working limits. Extension arms and workpiece supports are designed to aid the balance and stability of a correctly positioned workpiece. They are not designed to support the full weight of a heavy or long workpiece.
- A long or heavy workpiece may need additional support. Specialist workshop stands or sawhorses may need to be employed to one or both sides of the chop saw stand. Before commencing cutting operations, adjust all the workpiece supports to provide maximum stability to the workpiece. The Evolution Chop Saw Stand can support 225 kg (496 lb) total weight (saw + workpiece). Do not exceed this weight for any reason.

GETTING STARTED -UNPACKING
Caution: This packaging contains sharp objects. Take care when unpacking. Remove the machine, together with the accessories supplied from the packaging. Check carefully to ensure that the machine is in good condition and account for all the accessories listed in this manual. Also make sure that all the accessories are complete. If any parts are found to be missing, the machine and its accessories should be returned together in their original packaging to the retailer. Do not throw the packaging away; keep it safe throughout the guarantee period. Dispose of the packaging in an environmentally responsible manner. Recycle if possible. Do not let children play with empty plastic bags due to the risk of su$ocation.

PREPARING THE STAND
WARNING: This stand is quite heavy. If necessary enlist competent help
when lifting, moving or adjusting the stand.
Take care when deploying the legs and elevating the stand. Ensure that your
hands or #ngers cannot become trapped in any of the mechanisms contained
within the stand,
and that no article of clothing, jewellery etc can become entangled in any
part of the stand.
Note: Placing the stand on end or upside down on a clean work bench (or
similar rigid work surface) may help with the following procedures.
Deploying the legs

Squeeze the locking/unlocking lever (Fig. 1) towards the leg to release from the stored position.

Rotate the leg to its service position.
-
Repeat until all four (4) legs have been deployed.
-
Ensure that all four (4) legs are locked into their service position. The hinge latching pins must be fully engaged with the machined slots incorporated into the tables corner brackets. (Fig. 2).
Adjusting the length of the legs

Push in the inner leg locking pin (Fig. 3) and carefully slide out the inner leg to the desired position.

Ensure that the inner leg locking pin is fully engaged into the relevant hole machined in the outer leg tube.

Adjust all four (4) legs ensuring that all are set to the same length.
Place the stand on its legs and test the stand for rigidity and stability.
FIXED CLAMP ASSEMBLY
Align the #xed clamp’s body and baseplate parts with the rectangular hole in
the metal table and push #t the clamp’s baseplate from below. (Fig.4) Ensure
the Nyloc nuts are
inserted into the baseplate so the bolts can be inserted through the mounting
holes from above and gently tightened.
Do the same operation with the second nut and bolt; when both #xed clamps are
in position, then tighten securely so there is no movement. (Fig.5)
Repeat the same operation for the second #xed clamp.
ADJUSTABLE CLAMP ASSEMBLY
Align the adjustable clamp component onto the corresponding plastic shape in
the long slot that is attached to the leadscrew. Drop bolt through (Fig.6) and
tighten up #rmly.
The bolt should engage a square nut captive within the adjustable clamp’s
baseplate.
There is a secondary aluminium clamp with a removable rubber tip that may suit
the size and shape of di$erent saws and allow a range of saws to #t the stand.
This is designed to hook over the top face of some saw bases and hold a
variety of saws.
Locate aluminum secondary clamp onto the adjustable clamp body (Fig.7) and
bolt through, taking care to ensure washers are placed as shown. (Fig.8)
Adjustable clamp position can be opened and closed to #t saws of di$erent
widths using the removable T-Handle to tighten and loosen the leadscrew.

EXTENSION ARMS

Note: The supplied extension arms are not ‘handed’ and will #t either the
RH (right hand) or LH (left hand) sides of the machine table.
To !t the extension arms
-
The extension arms slide through the square section guide tubes located on the underside of the stands table top (Fig. 11a).
-
A locking screw (Fig. 11b) is located on both of the square section guide tubes.
When an extension arm is adjusted to the required position, tightening the
locking screw will secure the extension arm in place.
WARNING: The extension arms must not be withdrawn beyond the maximum safe
working limit. To aid the operator a safety index mark is printed onto the
surface of the extension arms (Fig. 12) WORKPIECE SUPPORT BARS
Workpiece support bars are provided for each extension arm. These #t through
the square tube located at the end of each arm and are secured in place by
tightening the
locking screw (Fig. 13)
Note: The support bar(s) should be set so that the top bearing surface
matches exactly (and therefore will provide support) the underside of a
secured workpiece. Usually the underside of a workpiece will be resting on the
base of the vice #tted to the chopsaw. If this is the case the correct height
of the support bar(s) can be determined and checked by placing a long straight
edge (or similar tool) horizontally in and across the machine vice. (Fig. 14)
Note: On Evolution chop saws the rear vice clamp (angularly adjustable)
is fastened directly to the machine’s base. The front clamp slides across the
base to provide the clamping pressure. Any inserted workpiece should therefore
rest directly onto the base of the machine.
Non-Evolution machines may di$er. Consult the Manufacturers Instruction
Manual.
Note: Some chop saw machines are capable of performing angled cuts. If
this facility is employed additional support (sawhorses or trestles etc) may
be required to provide extra stability and balance to a workpiece.
THE UNIVERSAL MOUNTING TABLE
The mounting table has four (4) clamps. (Fig. 15a & 15b) Two (2) of these
clamps are #xed to the table. All the clamps have clamp protectors #tted.
To provide clamping pressure the left hand (LH) pair of clamps slide
individually along slots machined in the table top. (Fig.16a & 16b)
The handwheels (Fig.16c & 16d) rotate the operating screws. Turning a
handwheel clockwise drives the clamp inwards. Turning a handwheel counter
clockwise drives the clamp outwards.
Note: Height-adjustable secondary clamps are provided on the adjustable
clamps. (Fig. 17).
This feature enables these clamps to be con#gured to accommodate the wide
variety of chopsaw bases presently available from various manufacturers.
Note: Evolution pressed steel bases and some other brand bases have a lip
at the bottom of the base. If your saw has a lip that protrudes under the
clamp then you do not need to #t the secondary top clamp. (Fig. 18)
If your saw base does NOT have a lip that protrudes under the clamp, then the
secondary clamp MUST be attached to secure the base from the top. (Fig. 19)
If the secondary top clamps are being used, ensure that they are attached to
the left hand side of the base and that they do not interfere with the cutting
path of the blade. Conduct a test to ensure the blade operates freely before
turning on the machine.
Attaching a Chop Saw to the Universal Mounting Table
- Place the chop saw onto the table with the right hand (RH) edge of the machine’s base resting against the two #xed clamps.
- Adjust the adjustable clamps to #rmly grip the base of the machine.
- If necessary adjust the secondary clamps to provide enhanced positive location and extra grip to the upper surface of the chop saw base. (Fig.19) Tighten these in place using the supplied hex key.
- Tighten the clamps to secure the machine onto the table.
Note: When #tting your chop saw to the stand please ensure the moving
clamps are to the left of the unit when viewing from the front. (Fig.20)
Test the security of the machine by gently trying to rock the machine
backwards and forwards. There should be no detectable movement of the machine
on the table.
CUTTING OPERATIONS
Refer to the Instruction Manual provided by the manufacturer/supplier of the
machine #tted.
WARNING: Remove any machine #tted to the stand before the stand is
prepared for storage.
Note: As during preparation, placing the stand on end or upside down on a
clean work bench (or similar rigid work surface) may help with the following
procedure.
- Return (if necessary) the legs to their minimum extension setting.
- Operate the relevant locking/ unlocking lever to release the leg from its service position.
- Rotate and fold each leg into its storage position, ensuring that they lock in place.
Use the carrying handle (and/or extra competent help) to transport the stand to a dry, secure storage location.
MAINTENANCE
Keep the stand clean and free from the debris that will be generated by any
cutting process. Such debris will inevitably #nd its way into the mechanisms
of this stand. Remove any such debris using a soft, long haired brush. Observe
such Health and Safety precautions that may be appropriate.
Do not use solvents or similar products that may damage the plastic parts.
Use a light machine oil to lubricate the pivot points and hinges of this
machine after any accumulated debris has been removed.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Waste electrical products should not be disposed of with household waste. Please recycle where facilities exist. Check with your Local Authority or retailer for recycling advice.
