PerTronix© thanks you for choosing a JBA Performance Exhaust Product. To
realize the potential of JBA’s engineering and excellent fit, Please Read and
Understand these instructions completely prior to starting the installation.
Check that you received all the parts listed on the parts list, if you have
any concerns, please contact PerTronix before continuing. Headers will have
the part number stamped in the flange. Work Smart —
Work Safe! Most Header and Exhaust Installation are best performed on a lift.
If a lift is not available, raise the vehicle and support on quality Jack
Stands on level ground. Do not rely on a jack! We use sealing beads on all our
headers.
The raised bead creates a better seal virtually eliminating leaks if installed
properly. It is important to install all header bolts lightly snug and then
tighten to factory torque specs starting in the center and working outward.
Before starting, allow the vehicle to cool, disconnect the battery, and spray
a penetrating oil on all hardware and fittings that will need to be removed.
Once you remove your manifold, clean the sealing surface on the head of any
old gasket debris or carbon build up.
-
Cut the manifold to cat pipes in front of the catalytic converters, just in front of the weld.
-
Unplug the front O2 sensors. Then unbolt the front exhaust pipes and remove them.
-
Remove the four nuts attaching the heat shields to the manifolds and remove the shields.
-
Unbolt and remove the manifolds. Clean the sealing surface on the cylinder heads.
-
Relocate transmission cable on the driver’s side by unbolting bracket from starter bolt. Reinstall starter bolt. Flip the bracket so the front becomes the back, and the top becomes the bottom. Move the bracket to the lower open hole on the bell housing. Attach the bracket using the hardware provided, do not tighten yet. (See picture) 6. Install the new JBA Headers using the hardware and gaskets provided. Adjust transmission cable bracket to gain maximum clearance from header then tighten bracket.
-
Install new exhaust connector pipes using hardware provided, aligning them with the cat converters, tack weld in place. Check to insure adequate clearance on floor, torsion bars, trans lines etc.
-
Weld pipes completely insuring there are no pin holes or leaks.
-
Transfer O2 sensors to new pipes, and reconnect connectors.
-
Check headers to insure adequate clearance on battery cables, wire looms, coolant lines, etc.
-
Reconnect battery cables. Start the engine and check for leaks.
-
We recommend that re-torquing the fasteners on the headers after approximately 100 miles of driving. All tubular headers require maintenance including periodically checking and retightening of the header bolts.
