JBA PERFORMANCE EXHAUST 1815S-1, 1815S-2 Chevrolet Small Block

Product Information

The 1815S-1 and 1815S-2 are shorty style headers designed for use with the Chevrolet Small Block engines in 57-74 Corvette and Universal Street Rod models. These headers come with two three-bolt flanges for use when mating the exhaust system. The headers are not compatible with Air Injection pumps and using them will render the car illegal for Street or Off Highway use. The headers require periodic maintenance to check and retighten the header bolts.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Disconnect the spark plug wires and remove the spark plugs.
  2. Disconnect the head pipes from the exhaust manifolds and remove the stock exhaust manifolds.
  3. If the car has an Air Injection pump, it will have to be removed as these headers will not work with it, rendering the car illegal for Street or Off Highway use.
  4. Remove the gaskets and any gasket material or any carbon deposits that remain.
  5. Bolt the header to the head using the supplied gaskets, bolts, and lock washers. Use anti-seize on threads when installing on aluminum heads. Tighten the bolts evenly working from the center out.
  6. Reinstall the spark plug and wires taking care not to let any wires rest against the header tubes.
  7. The headers come with two three-bolt flanges for use when mating the exhaust system. Use a small amount of Sensor Safe High Temp Silicone Sealant on the ball flange.
  8. Check to make sure that all the wiring, fuel lines, transmission cooler lines, brake lines, hoses, etc. are clear of the headers or any exhaust components and reroute or relocate those components as necessary. Reinstall the battery cable.
  9. Start the engine and let it warm up. Check for leaks. Shut the engine off and let it cool down. Check to make sure all fasteners are tight.
  10. All Tubular Headers require maintenance including periodically check and retighten the header bolts.

Work Smart – Work Safe! Most Header and Exhaust Installation are best performed on a lift. If a lift is not available, raise the vehicle and support on quality Jack Stands on level ground. Do not rely on a jack!
Many factors affect he installation of exhaust headers, including worn or aftermarket motor mounts, previous accident damage, aftermarket cylinder heads that may have relocated port or spark plug locations, suspension and steering changes, sagging of original unibody structures due to age.

Coating Notes: Coatings can be marred during installation if you are not careful. If you are breaking in a new motor, the extreme heat can alter the appearance of the coating and this is not a warranty issue. We recommend breaking in new motors with stock manifolds or an old set of headers. We use sealing beads on all our headers. The raised bead creates a better seal virtually eliminating leaks if installed properly. It is important to install all header bolts lightly snug and then tighten to factory torque specs starting in the center and working outward.

Before starting, allow the vehicle to cool, disconnect the battery, and spray a penetrating oil on all hardware and fittings that will need to be removed. Once you remove your manifold, clean the sealing surface on the head of any old gasket debris or carbon build up.
