5.1 Fitting the extension tube and the saw unit
Depending on the height you need to reach, you can use the electric pole pruner with or without the extension tube (Fig. 2/Item 11).

5.1.1 Fitting the extension tube (Fig. 3a-3b)
a) Slacken the fastening screw (Item 10) at the tube mount (Item 9) of the motor unit (Fig. 2/Item 14).
b) Insert the extension tube (Item 11) into the tube mount (Item 9) on the motor unit.
c) Pull the spring-loaded bolt ring (Item 9b) and push the extension tube (Item 11) a distance of approx. 45 mm into the tube mount (Item
9). Let go of the spring-loaded bolt ring (Item 9b).
d) Turn the extension tube (Item 11) until you hear the spring-loaded bolt (Item 9a) latch in the locking hole (Item 11a). To secure, tighten the fastening screw (Item 10)  again.

5.1.2 Fitting the saw unit (Fig. 4)
To fi t the saw unit (Fig. 2/Item 1) on the extension tube (Fig. 2/Item 11), proceed as described in section 5.1.1. Fig. 4 shows the saw unit when fully fi tted.
To dismantle the extension tube and the saw unit, proceed in reverse order.
If you do not need the extension tube (Fig. 2/Item 11), fi t the saw unit (Fig. 2/Item 1) directly on the motor unit (Fig. 2/Item 14). Proceed with the fi tting as described in section 5.1.1.

5.2 Fitting the cutter rail and the saw chain (Fig. 5-7)

  1. Use the multifunction tool size 13/4mm (Item 22) to remove the fastening screw for the chain wheel cover (Item 20).
  2. Remove the chain wheel cover.
  3. Lay the saw chain (Item 13) in the groove which runs around the cutter rail (Item 12).
  4. Insert the cutter rail (Item 12) and the saw chain (Item 13) into the mount of the pole chain saw. At the same time guide the saw chain around the chain wheel (Item 1a)  and hook the cutter rail into the chain tensioning bolt (Item 1b).
  5. Fit the chain wheel cover and tighten the fastening screw hand-tight.
Note: Do not fully tighten the fastening screw until after you have adjusted the chain tension (see section 5.3).

5.3 Tensioning the saw chain (Fig. 8-10)

  1. Slightly slacken the fastening screw for the chain wheel cover (use the size 13/4mm multifunction tool).
  2. Adjust the tension of the saw chain by using the multifunction tool size 13/4mm (Item 22) to turn the chain tensioning screw (Item 1c). Turning the screw clockwise increases the chain tension, turning it counter-clockwise decreases the chain tension. The saw chain is correctly tensioned if it can be lifted approx. 2 mm in the middle of the cutter rail.
  3. Tighten the fastening screw (Item 1d) for the chain wheel cover (Item 20) (use the size 13/4mm multifunction tool).
Danger! All the chain links must lie properly in the guide groove of the bar.

Notes on tensioning the chain:
The chain must be properly tensioned to ensure safe operation. When the saw chain can be raised by around 2 mm in the middle of the cutter rail, you know that the chain tension is ideal (Fig. 9). During cutting, the temperature of the chain rises and its length changes. It is important therefore to check the chain tension at least every 10 minutes and to adjust it again as required. This applies in particular to new saw chains. When you have fi nished the job, slacken the chain again as it will shorten when it cools down. This will help to prevent damage to the chain.

5.4 Saw chain lubrication
Warning! Always disconnect the mains plug before performing any checks or adjustments. Always wear protective gloves when working on the chainsaw to protect yourself  against injury.
Important! Never operate the chain if it is not lubricated with saw chain oil. Use of the chainsaw without saw chain oil or if the oil level is below the viewing window will  result in damage to the chainsaw!
Important! Be aware of the temperature conditions: Diff erent lubricants with completely diff erent viscosities are required at diff erent ambient temperatures. At lower temperatures you will need low viscosity oils in order to achieve a suffi cient lubricating fi lm. However, if the same low viscosity oil is used during the summer it will become even thinner due to the ambient temperatures alone, and as a result the lubricating fi lm could break down, causing the chain to overheat and become damaged. In addition, the chain oil would burn and produce unnecessary pollutants.

5.4.1 Filling the oil tank (Fig. 11)
Warning! Fill in the oil outdoors and do not smoke while fi lling.

  • Place the chainsaw on a flat surface.
  • Clean the area around the oil tank cover (Item 19) and then clean the oil tank cover.
  • Fill the tank (Item 19a) with saw chain oil. In the process, make sure that no dirt enters the tank, as this could cause the oil nozzle to become blocked.
  • Close the oil tank cover (Item 19).

Operation

Please note that the statutory regulations governing noise abatement may diff er from one location to another.

6.1 Using the shoulder strap
Warning! Always use a shoulder strap when working with the tool. Always switch off the tool before you release the should strap. Otherwise there is a risk of injury.

  1. Fig. 12: Attach the hooks (Item 5a) of the shoulder strap fastener to the harness holder (Item 17).
  2. Fig. 13: Place the shoulder strap (Item 5) over your shoulder and adjust the length of the strap so that the strap holder is at waist level.
  3. Important! Fig. 14: The shoulder strap is equipped with a quick release. Press the hooks together (Item 5a) and pull the shoulder strap (Fig. 5) out of the harness holder if  you need to put down the tool quickly.

6.2 Adjusting the handle (Fig. 15)
Important: Disconnect the power plug before you adjust the handle.
Push forward the release (Item 18) on the turning element (Item 8) and turn the handle (Item 4) to the required position (-90°/-45°/0°/45°/90°).
Make sure that the lock release latches in place correctly!

6.3 Connecting to the power supply

  • Connect the power cable to a suitable extension cable. Make sure that the extension cable is designed for the power rating of the chainsaw.
  • Secure the extension cable (Item A) as shown in Fig. 16 to protect it against pulling forces and accidental disconnection.
  • Connect the extension cable to a professionally installed safety mains socket with ground contact. We recommend using a cable with a bright and highly visible color (red or yellow). This will reduce the risk of accidentally damaging it with the chainsaw.

6.4 Switching On/Off (Fig. 15)

a) Switching on
– Hold the chainsaw fi rmly with one hand on the handle (Item 4) and the other hand on the grip area (Fig. 1/Item 2).
– Push forward the safety lock-off (Item 3) and press the On/Off switch (Item 7). Release the safety lock-off (Fig. 8/Item 3) again.

b) Switching off
– Release the On/Off switch (Item 7).
– Always disconnect the mains plug when you stop working, even if it is only for a short time.

Working with the chainsaw

Preparations
To ensure that you can work safely, check the following points before every use and in the event of any damage:

Condition of the chainsaw
Inspect the chainsaw before the start of work for damage to the housing, the power cable, the saw chain and the cutter rail. Never use a tool which is obviously damaged. – Danger of accident!
Danger! The protective devices must not be removed or modifi ed. – Danger of accident! Never use the saw if the safety equipment is not working properly. Never try to repair safety-relevant protection systems yourself but get in touch with our service department or with a similarly qualifi ed workshop. Use only the accessories and spare parts approved by the manufacturer, otherwise there is a risk of accidents or damage to the tool.

Oil container
Level of oil in the oil container: Both before and during your work, make sure that there is always suffi cient oil in the system. To avoid damaging the chainsaw, never run the  saw if there is no oil in the system or if the oil drops below the „min“ mark. On average, a single fi lling will last around 10 minutes depending on the number of pauses in cutting and the loads involved.

Saw chain
Tension of the chain, condition of the cutting edges: The sharper the chain, the easier and more controllable it is to operate the chainsaw.
The same also applies to the chain tension. For greater safety you must check the chain tension before your work and at least every 10 minutes during your work. New chains  in particular tend to expand more.
Do not touch the saw chain while the tool is switched on. If the saw chain is blocked by an object, switch off the tool at once – then remove the object – Danger of injury!

Protective clothing
Always wear appropriate tight-fi tting protective clothes such as special trousers which protect against cuts, protective gloves and safety shoes.
Hearing protection and protective goggles Wear a protective helmet with integral face and hearing protection. This will off er protection against falling and recoiling branches.

Safe working

  • To ensure that you can work in safety you must use the tool at a working angle of max. 60°.

  • Never stand under the branch you want to saw.

  • Use special caution when working with branches under tension and with splintering wood.

  • Possible risk of injury from falling branches and pieces of wood catapulted into the surroundings!

  • When the tool is in operation, keep other persons and animals away from the danger zone.

  • The tool is not protected from electric shock through contact with high-voltage cables.
Keep a minimum distance of 10 m from live cables. Electric shock can cause fatal injury.

  • When working on slopes always stand to the upper or left or right side of the branch you want to cut.

  • Hold the tool as close as possible to your body. This will help you to keep your balance.

Sawing techniques

  • When removing branches, hold the tool at an angle of max. 60° to the horizontal to avoid being hit by a falling branch (Fig. 17).
  • Start with the bottom branches on the tree.
This will make it easier for the cut branches to drop.

WARNING! Never stand underneath the branch you are sawing – always keep out of the range of falling branches! – Branches landing on the ground could bounce up again – Danger of injury

  • After completing a cut, the weight of the saw will abruptly increase for the operator as the saw is no longer supported by the branch.
This can result in you losing control over the saw.

  • Remove the saw from the cut only with the saw chain still running. This will prevent the saw from getting jammed.

  • Never cut with the tip of the saw.

  • Never cut into the bulging branch collar. This will prevent the tree from healing.

Sawing off small branches (Fig. 18):
Place the contact surface of the saw onto the branch. This will prevent the saw from making jerky movements when you begin a cut. Exerting slight pressure, guide the saw  from the top to the bottom through the branch.

Sawing off large and long branches (Fig. 19):
Carry out a relief cut when working on large branches. Start by sawing through 1/3 of the branch diameter (a) from the top to the bottom with the top side of the cutter rail. Then saw towards the fi rst cut (b) from the top to the bottom with the bottom side of the cutter rail. Saw off long branches in several steps to keep control over the impact location.

Kickback
The term „kickback“ describes what happens when the running chainsaw suddenly kicks upward and backward. Usually this is caused by contact between the tip of the cutter rail and the workpiece or by the saw chain becoming trapped. In the event of kickback, large forces occur suddenly and violently. As a result, the chainsaw usually reacts  uncontrollably. This can often result in very serious injuries to the worker or persons in the vicinity. The risk of kickback is at its greatest when the saw is positioned for a cut  in the region of the tip of the cutter rail, as the leverage eff ect is greatest there. It is therefore safest to position the saw as fl at as possible.

Warning!

  • Make sure that the chain tension is always correctly adjusted.
  • Only use a chainsaw if it is in perfect working order.
  • Only work with a saw chain that has been properly sharpened in accordance with the instructions.
  • Never cut with the upper edge or the tip of the rail.
  • Always hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands.

Cutting wood which is under tension
Danger!
Special care is required when cutting wood which is under tension. Cutting wood which is under tension can release the tension, causing the wood to react out of control. In  the worst case this can result in severe and even fatal injuries. This type of work must be performed only by specially trained persons.

Maintenance

Keep the tool, the cutter set and the cutter set guard in good working condition. Poor maintenance can result in damage to the tool and in very serious injuries.
There are no other parts inside the tool which require maintenance.

8.1 Replacing the saw chain and the cutter rail
The cutter rail needs to be replaced if the guide groove of the cutter rail is worn. Proceed as described in the section “Fitting the cutter rail and saw chain”.
Use only saw chains and cutter rails approved by the manufacturer. These are listed in section 4 “Technical data” or are available as accessories (see section 10.3 “Ordering  spare parts”). The use of spare parts which are not approved by the manufacturer could result in very serious injuries.

8.2 Checking the automatic chain lubrication
You should check the operation of the automatic chain lubrication system on a regular basis in order to guard against overheating and the damage this can cause to the cutter rail and the chain. Point the tip of the cutter rail at a smooth surface (a board or a cut tree face) and allow the chainsaw to run. If you see a growing oil stain on the smooth surface, the automatic chain lubrication system is working properly. If there is no clear trace of oil to be seen, please refer to the corresponding instructions in the section “Troubleshooting”. If the information contained there fails to help, please contact our service department or a similarly qualifi ed workshop. Warning! Do not actually touch the surface with the tip of the cutter rail when performing this test. Keep a safe distance (approx. 20 cm).

8.2.1 Setting screw for the oil delivery rate (Fig. 20/Item B)
The optimum oil delivery rate (4-6 ml/min) is set at the factory. If there is no clear trace of soil as described in section 8.2, use a screwdriver to press gently on the oil delivery rate screw and turn it counter-clockwise. This will increase the amount of oil delivered (MAX). Turning the screw clockwise will reduce the oil delivery rate (MIN).

8.3 Sharpening the saw chain
Working eff ectively with the chainsaw is only possible if the chain is in good condition and sharp. This also reduces the risk of kickback. The saw chain can be re-sharpened by any dealer. Do not attempt to sharpen the saw chain yourself unless you have the necessary special tools and experience.

Replacing the power cable

Danger!
If the power cable for this equipment is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its after-sales service or similarly trained personnel to avoid danger.

Cleaning, storage and ordering of spare parts

Carry out the cleaning and maintenance work before putting into storage.
10.1 Cleaning the tool
