Operation

Installation

  • Pick a suitable location to install the universal lifting device. Ensure to have sufficient wall clearance for lifting loads. Make sure not to lift loads over people or animals.

  • Select a massive wooden beam or a stone or concrete surface as mounting surface for the frames. The lifting device must not be attached to a thin or rotten ceiling! Use the included special dowels (10) when attaching the installation plates to a stone/concrete ceiling. When mounting on other media use appropriate mounting hardware (screws, dowels, etc. – not included).

  • When used as a bicycle lift, measure the distance from the end of the bicycle seat to the handlebars. Attach the two installation plates (8) in that distance at the desired location on the ceiling.

  • When used as a kayak lift, a distance of about 1.50 to 2.50 m can be chosen
    – depending on the type and length of the kayak to be lifted.

  • Mount the pull rope fastening (2) with the two mounting screws (3) in an accessible place (about 1.20 m in height).

  • Thread the pull rope through the pulleys as follows:
    1. Attach the one end of the rope with a knot at the outer bottom hole of the right frame (6), as shown on figure 1.
    2. Then lead the rope through the pulley of the right hook (9). Make sure that the hook is facing inside.
    3. Now lead the rope over the pulley of the right frame (6).
    4. Pull the rope to the left frame (7) and lead it over the pulley and then through one of the guide holes of the brake mechanism (see figure 2).
    5. Now lead the pull rope down and run it around the pull rope fastening (2) in a loop.
    6. Lead the pull rope from the pull rope fastening up through the other guide hole of the brake mechanism.
    7. Lead the rope through the second pulley of the left frame (7) and run it through the pulley of the left hook (9). Make sure that the hook is facing inside.
    8. Then lead the pull rope through the outer lower hole of the left installation plate (8) and secure it with a knot.
    9. Insert the two frames (6) and (7) into the pre-assembled installation plates (8) and screw them together using the supplied installation screws and nuts (1). Fig. 1

Raising a Load

  1. Use the carrying belts (4) to hang the bike, cargo carrier, kayak, etc., to the two hooks (9) (fig.3).
  2. Take the pull rope (1) from the pull rope fastening (2).
  3. Pull down the rope in short strokes to raise the attached load. Pull as far to the desired height. If the rope is released, the brake mechanism of the lifting device prevents the load from lowering.
  4. Then tie the pull rope to the pull rope fastening.

Lowering a Load

  1. Take the pull rope (1) from the pull rope fastening (2).
  2. Use the pull rope to lift the braking mechanism a little bit.
  3. Lower the attached load slowly.
  4. Releasing the rope allows the braking mechanism to stop the lifting device from lowering.

Maintenance and Inspection

  • Never repair or maintain the universal lifting device while it is loaded.
  • The universal lifting device should be inspected prior to use concerning any damage or faults. Also listen for unusual sounds which may indicate trouble.
  • Frequently check the lifting device by operating with and without a load, stopping at various positions to test that the load is being held correctly. If the load moves or slips the lifting device should be taken out of service and repaired.
  • Immediately replace the lifting rope in case of any damage.

Cleaning and Storing

  • Wipe the parts of the lifting device with a lightly moistened cloth. Do not immerse it into liquids.
  • Store the universal lifting device indoors in a dry place that is protected from dust, dirt and extreme temperatures.
